Guest Anubis Puppet Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 In the same vein as the Kubrick thread. If I missed one you really love, I sincerely apologize.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 goodfellas is an easy pick in this catagory, and I would like casino as a distant second.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Taxi Driver easily. Some of his films I like, and some I don't at all, but Taxi Driver is a step above. One of the best movies ever.
Guest Anorak Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Taxi Driver gets my vote. I hate the drivel that some critics write about the film being dangerously right wing or rascist, they actually miss the the main point it makes of there being an ambiguous line between being hailed as a hero or condemned as evil in modern society. The film has no dubious agenda itself. 1. Taxi Driver 2. Mean Streets 3. After Hours 4. Raging Bull 5. King Of Comedy I could honestly leave the rest, Casino is just a rehash of Goodfellas with little of the same inspiration or verve and his period efforts are a bore.
Guest J*ingus Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I seem alone in this, but I never thought Goodfellas was all that great. Joe Pesci was awesome, but the rest of the cast wasn't up to their usual standards in my opinion. Does anyone here even remember what DeNiro's character's name was in that film? My vote easily goes to Taxi Driver, truly one of the great American movies. Raging Bull and Mean Streets would be my choices for second and third, and may I suggest After Hours for an honorable mention.
Guest endgame722 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Taxi driver just ahead of Raging Bull with Goodfellas a distant third.
Guest Incandenza Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 GoodFellas gets my vote. Might I add that I HATE Cape Fear?
Guest pochorenella Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Goodfellas, hands down. Sorry, never seen Mean Streets or Kundun.
Guest godthedog Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 raging bull, easy. more emotion, character complexity, & repeat value than any of his other movies. i always thought taxi driver was kind of overrated, i felt like travis bickle was a great character trapped in a movie that didn't use him quite correctly. his most underrated is probably after hours.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Taxi Driver, best Scorsese movie, and best movie in general
