Barack Obama's Inauguration

Recommended Posts

Seriously, that's sort of like the double reverse version of this circa 11/04:

You see, we're not going to be gracious victors. You're about to enter your worst nightmare. You thought the last four years were bad for the liberal agenda? You thought you really had cause to complain about "fundamentalism" and "conservative bullying" and "reactionary right-wing gun nuts?" Just wait for the second round. You'll be howling, I promise. And it won't matter, because we've just received an overwhelming and historic mandate from the people, and the people are on our side. And they'll stay there.

Because while you're bewailing your undeserved fate and screeching about the voters' stupidity, we're going to change not just the country but the rest of the world as well. We're going to reform social security, and we're going to enhance the standard of living for every American in every economic class by giving them financial independence from the government. We're going to make your little teachers' unions cry uncle and hide, weeping, under their beds. All the people who get a better and cheaper education as a result will remember that we did it. We're going to clean up the tax code and future Americans will think of us with love and and gratitude for eliminating the 1040EZ. We're going to go after Syria, Iran, and North Korea, and we're going to be remembered for liberating millions, overthrowing tyranny, and championing human rights for centuries. Any immigrants from the countries we rescue will vote for us. So will their descendants. Thanks. We're going to protect the American people from hostile regimes by constructing a missile shield. Some time in the near future, whenever an American looks up he'll know there's no chance an ICBM is going to come hurtling down on his head. He'll also remember that a Republican was responsible for that. He'll remember that Democrats tried to stop him because it would impede "world peace." And he'll think about his family, and he'll decide that as long as his wife and children and parents aren't in danger of being turned into charcoal, he doesn't really give a flying fuck what China thinks. And then he'll step into the voting booth and he'll pull the lever for the GOP.

h/t to my dawg Marney

The newsweek articles RobotJerk cites (i also posted a link to that earlier) are tremendous. There are 3 detailed chapters up on the site following the campaigns on the primary season, including McCain, Obama, and HIllary campaigns. Its very clear to me why Obama prevailed out of the 3 reading those articles. He owned his campaign, while Hillary and McCain were owned by their infighting advisors and managers.

The far right's response to this seems very reasonable

RedState is pleased to announce it is engaging in a special project: Operation Leper.

We're tracking down all the people from the McCain campaign now whispering smears against Governor Palin to Carl Cameron and others. Michelle Malkin has the details.

We intend to constantly remind the base about these people, monitor who they are working for, and, when 2012 rolls around, see which candidates hire them. Naturally then, you'll see us go to war against those candidates.

It is our expressed intention to make these few people political lepers.

They'll just have to be stuck at CBS with Katie's failed ratings.

Initial list:

Nichole Wallace

Steve Schmidt

Mark McKinnon

P.S. - Did I ever tell you how RedState was able to stock Gov. Palin's campaign plane with twenty of these?. We were glad to. And we were glad not to mention it at the time. We are rooting for Sarah Palin. Don't make us add you to our list. Do you really want to be next to Kathleen Parker in the leper colony?

I can't imagine Bush doing anything other than retiring to that ranch in Crawford

Much like his presidency, lol amirite?

What will Cheney do? That's a bit more interesting a question, I think.

Obama will never win them over. He is the wrong shade of the rainbow for them to ever get on his side. It wouldn't matter if he went on to be a great President who somehow rescues the economy, increases the value of the dollar, and solves the middle east (actually, I'm pretty sure accomplishing all three of those would make him a GOD)..they will always hate him. He has zero, hell less than zero, of ever winning over a section of the country that thinks he's a terrorist cause he don't have a good Christian name and isn't white.

Snicker.

Oh, the infighting.

I hope this diminishes some of the grousing about the Republicans being an ideological monolith, particularly your grousing.

What will Cheney do?

Sit on a board, shelter his wealth, die

I would have to think that if she can get in the Senate through Stevens vacated seat, that 3+ years experience in the Senate, which was enough for Obama, would be enough for her to be taken seriously.

I love this conservative meme. Is anyone who hasn't sucked down the GOP kool-aid by the gallon actually believe this? Is she going to magically get smarter, less corrupt, more truthful with some Senate experience?

He just needs to win enough of them over to be reelected, and we'll be much further towards real social progress.

Should that happen, in 8 years, even more of the racist, Fox-watching old people will be dead. More young progressives, of voting age, will have lived under a black president, and perhaps have felt the damage of the Bush presidency in their lifetimes.

If nothing else, the conservative monopoly, and the inherent progressive handicaps, on the White House should be effectively over. The Reps need to evolve soon, whether they like it or not. Naked appeals to fear, veiled appeals to racists, and blatant trolling against intellectualism are not going to be reliable things to bank on.

Sarah Palin is never to be spoken of AGAIN, thankyouverymuch. Nice little side attraction but a serious candidate in 2012, Marvin? It's not the correct usage here but WHO YOU CRAPPIN that is the worst let it go she's done.

We shouldn't even be talking about 2012, you guys. That's from both sides. Look how completely wrong we got shit in 2005. There's no way to tell what's ahead. Quit daydreaming about Sarah Palin/Bobby Jindal showdowns or tickets, or about how the inexorable march of time will cull the weak/sick/old from the herd so that only the intellectually fit will survive to support Barack Obama. Let's hold off AT LEAST till New Year's Day.

Palin shouldn't go to the Senate if she wants to run again. Being a governor is where it's at.

Oh man, The Pit is awesome today by the way.

That's part of the fun- I'm already looking up 2010 Senate and 2012 Senate races. I love it.

It seems like the goal now (in some quarters at least) is to actually become one, though. I mean, shit, Rush Limbaugh was babbling about running the "bourgeoisie" out of the party a couple weeks ago. There's a not insignificant number of people out there who think Bush failed because he wasn't right-wing enough and that the key to winning next time is to run even harder to the right and purge the GOP of all those disloyal elitist intellectuals like David Brooks and Peggy Noonan who were oh so mean to poor widdle Sarah.

*sigh*

That's not the reason. The reason for Republicans' speaking out against Obama is his VOTING RECORD, or at least, what little he has. As much as the campaign made a big deal out of McCain voting with his party's president 90% of the time... imagine that... a party voting the same way...... he voted Democratic literally 100% of the time. That's not hope, change OR working together. It's just a neatly packaged partisan using catchphrases that our younger generations, and apparently you, fall for like dominoes.

A lot of Republicans blame Bush for taxing like a conservative and spending like a liberal.

I'm going to assume that Czech didn't read the post where I wrote exactly why I voted as I did. Canards are easy, though. Like being told how to think.

Anyone want to take a shot of who Obama will apoint to his cabinet positions? Apparently John Kerry is on the short list for Secretary of State, could he maybe go republican and give Chuck Hagel Secretary of Defense. Any other ideas out there?

I really hope Richardson is Secretary of State and not Kerry. Hagel seems like such a perfect choice for Defense: he's a Republican so that fits with Obama's promise of inclusiveness, but his foreign policy views are much closer to Obama's than to the GOP mainstream's.

...

You didn't even conflict with what he was talking about. He said there was no chance that he could pick up those voters, and lists off three things he could do which would be good for everyone, regardless of party (Raising the dollar, turning the economy around, peace in the Middle East), wouldn't be enough to convince these voters. To an extent, I believe he's right: We are talking about people who are firmly looking to continue the culture war (Abortion, Gay Marriage, etc), so these issues wouldn't change their view on him.

And that's a jack-ass statement on Obama's campaign. Sure, it was brilliantly packaged, but he has substance, and (like it or not) most people do want more Democratic changes right now. If you want to whine about something, whine about the "Campaign of Hate" McCain ran, which centered around making Obama not seem like a "good" American, branding him a socialist, extremist, and anti-American. There are stupid people who didn't know what he was running on, but there were plenty of people who were informed about what his policies were.

Acting like McCain got beat just because of the shiny wrapping paper is inane: he got beaten by his own campaign, solutions that hadn't been working (Deregulation, anyone?), and trying to win with a shrinking base rather than the growing number of independents. Falling like dominoes, my ass. Pushed over a cliff into the Obama camp is more like it.

The local Repub. talk show host was crying today saying the voters 18-25 are to blame for McCain's loss to this socialist Pretty Boy. Then he blamed American Idol for teaching the youth the wrong way to judge people.

I emailed him and thanked him for the laugh.

A woman I was interviewing was thanking me and my generation for voting in Obama.

I didn't have the heart to tell her.

Sonmeone also told me: They can't even run a White Castle, how can we expect them to run a country,

I assume this must be the all-2008 thread.

The Bob Barr campaign apparently thinks that Ron Paul is to blame for his performance. It wasn't his behavior over Bill Clinton's sex life, it wasn't his Patriot Act vote, it wasn't his career-defining hawkishness on the expensive marijuana war, it was because of Ron Paul. In nominating a huge-govt Republican for president, the LP chose not to give themselves a chance to even slightly fill the small-govt gulf.

Reason is a libertarian magazine, for the record.

Yes. That was the intention. There were a good number of people bitching to shit about the mega camp 2008 thread, so I acted with great vengeance and started up the next mega thread.

However, I plan on making this the ultimate B. Hussein Obama presidential thread vis-a-vis incessant bumping and posting. I hate having a thousand topics on stupid shit.

Did you mean "via" where you said "vis-a-vis"?

I like that picture up there. I once tried to photoshop Obama into a fully white guy, but I couldn't nail down the hair. Got the skin, not the hair.
