Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Hey floyd, which one of those Arcturus' albums would you recommend? I heard La Masquerade Infernale a couple of years back; just there was what I came away with. Well, The Sham Mirrors is the best one, though La Masquerade Infernale is pretty stellar as well. Aspira is pretty good, but not as good. Also, good pick with that Caina album.

jwest27 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 So yeah, I decided to listen to a bunch of stuff mentioned in the metal thread. A few random thoughts below. Dissection Storm of the Light's Bane - I believe I talked about this in another thread. Really like this one. I will say that the drumming felt a bit off at some points. I don't know. Still pretty great. Origin Antithesis - Brutal. My favorite song is definitely "Wrath of Vizhnu". Those drums are insane. At the Gates Slaughter of the Soul - I feel like I sort of missed the boat on this one. It's like I had already heard it a bunch of times before, due to other bands basically ripping it off. Still, "Blinded by Fear" is really good, and there's a little bit in the guitar solo in "Cold" that I just love for some reason. Like a little muddled part that's probably my favorite part of the whole album. Bolt Thrower Warmaster The Warhammer cover art is kind of hilarious, but the music is just good metal fun. Carcass Heartwork - Kind of have the same feeling as I did with Slaughter. I kept thinking of like, Children of Bodom and the like. I think I liked this a little better, though. Cryptopsy None So Vile - Jesus. I'm just not sure I can brook those vocals. I'll give it a few more listens to see if I can get used to it, but yeesh. Electric Wizard Dopesmoker - Honestly, I'm not sure I'm really into the whole doom metal thing. I guess I got like music ADD when it comes to bands like these or Opeth or pretty much any song that's over say...8 minutes long. Is it because I don't smoke Marijuana? Would that help? I don't know. Nile Annihilation of the Wicked - I'll agree with what Milky said regarding this band and say my favorite track is definitely "Lashed to the Slave Stick". Highly enjoyable overall. EL BRUJ0 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Well, The Sham Mirrors is the best one, though La Masquerade Infernale is pretty stellar as well. Aspira is pretty good, but not as good. Also, good pick with that Caina album. I'll check The Sham Mirrors within the week. I had to get up on that Caina. Twenty minute track inspired by Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness - you know I want all of that.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 14, 2009 The one on the left is Jesu's Silver. Which Einsturzende Neubauten album is that up there, Gary? I don't think I have that (or at least not with the artwork, possibly.) Electric Wizard Dopesmoker - Honestly, I'm not sure I'm really into the whole doom metal thing. I guess I got like music ADD when it comes to bands like these or Opeth or pretty much any song that's over say...8 minutes long. Is it because I don't smoke Marijuana? Would that help? I don't know. PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Yes, and yes. You should be listening to Braid, though, as this is just Bob Nanna's best effort at recapturing the magic.
