Guest Some Guy Report post Posted June 25, 2002 These will be mostly Baseball people, because I don't know all that much about the history of other sports. 1) Which athlete has helped his sport the most? Babe Ruth, he revolutionixed Baseball and brought it back after WWI. Plus he is without question the best Baseball player ever. McGuire in 1998 brought back teh fans from the strike with 70 HR. 2) Which athlete has hurt his sport the most? Joe Jackson and the rest of the guys who threw the 1919 WS, Pete Rose when he got caught gambling. 3) Which game was the biggest upset of 2002 so far? I'm sure everyone will say the Superbowl. 4) Which team deserves/deserved to win their championship in their respective sport more than any other team? The Patriots 5) Which game had the biggest "Hangover" moment (a moment where it felt good while it was going on, but later hits you like a bad hangover with how horrible it really was)? I don't understand what you mean. 6) Which athlete did the most for his team? Babe Ruth and Jordan 7) Which athlete did the least for his team? Ty Cobb, from a teammate perspective was probably the biggest asshole in Baseball history. 8) Which athlete didn't get an award but really deserved one? Ted Williams in 1941 shoudl have been MVP with a .406 AVG. but big suppirse it went the the Yankee guy. Pedro dhould have gotten it in 1999 but bid suprise a NY write cost him the award, it went to I-Rod I think. 9) Which team gots the no recognition for its accomplishments? The 2001-2001 Patriots 10) Which team got too much recognition for its accomplishments? The Yankees (just because I hate them ) 11) Which team had the most hype surrounding it? The Bulls in the 90s and finally 12) Overall, which team so far has been the best team of 2002? The lakers I guess
Guest Powerplay Report post Posted June 25, 2002 On #5, I mean a moment you felt great when it was happening, but when you look back at it later you see how bad it really was. My choice for this one was Game 7 of the WCF in the NHL. It was cool to watch Patrick Roy get his BUTT kicked, but everytime I look back at it I feel more and more sorry for him because his defense just kinda gave up on him and let Red Wings blow him away. I wasn't all his fault and he didn't deserve THAT much humiliation. Like a hangover the day after a party: It felt good while you were drinking, but the next day you just feel horrid. Hmm... maybe I should confine it to just 2001-2002. But I do agree with Some Guy on just about every one of his answers. But from now on, keep it to the most current season of the sport (2001-2002 NBA, NFL, NHL, 2002-2003 Baseball, World Cup, etc..) sorry for not being very specific. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted June 25, 2002 #5 I'd have to say BK Kim in the WS last year. Giving up those HR in back to back games was devastating for the poor kid. i didn't really like that it happened because the Yanks won teh games but I did think it was funny to see someone fail at that level 2 games in a row. Guest starvenger Report post Posted June 25, 2002 1) Which athlete has helped his sport the most in 2002? Tiger Woods, since he's kind of like the "People's Golfer". 2) Which athlete has hurt his sport the most in 2002? It's still pretty early for this one, so... Michael Schumacher and Tiger Woods, because they have no consistent competition, which hurts the sport. Yes, Tiger is the best and worst thing for golf. 3) Which game was the biggest upset of 2002 so far? Korea d. Italy, 1-0 in extra time in the World Cup. 4) Which team deserves/deserved to win their championship in their respective sport more than any other team in 2002? Probably England-Brazil. Hella-boring game, but you were jacked b/c you kept thinking that something's gonna happen... 6) Which athlete did the most for his team in 2002? Mario Lemieux for Canada in the Winter Olympics and Tom Brady of the Pats. 7) Which athlete did the least for his team in 2002? Chris Webber. He can put up big numbers, but disappears when it counts. 8) Which athlete didn't get an award but really deserved one in 2002? Peter Forsberg. Came back in the playoffs (and didn't get paid... much) and didn't do anything but lead all scorers by a wide margin. 9) Which team gots the no recognition for its accomplishments in 2002? The Leafs, of course. Just kidding. Pick any team that lost their resepective finals. 10) Which team got too much recognition for its accomplishments in 2002? Ferrari, which will ALWAYS be a top 3 F1 team as long as they're willing to spend money. 11) Which team had the most hype surrounding it in 2002? The New York Yankees, as usual. and finally 12) Overall, which team so far has been the best team of 2002? The Detroit Red Wings, who finished first overall in the regular season and won the Stanley Cup. You can't do much better than that.

Guest King_TIL Report post Posted June 25, 2002 1. Roger Clemens. The beaning of Barry Bonds could be a catalyst to further the regulations of body armor by MLB; hasn't happened yet, but I know people here dislike Clemens a great deal (and rightfully so), so I'll just put him down as my answer. 2. Mike Tyson. Probably popped a huge buyrate, but I wonder how many people will be so eager to order a boxing ppv again given how disappointingly one-sided the fight was. 3. Superbowl. Weren't they underdogs by two touchdowns? 4. I guess the Lakers. When you have the two best players in the league you deserve to win. 5. Didn't watch it, but Tyson/Lewis had all the hype and feel of a big fight, but turned out to just be a squash. 6. Shaqille O'Neal. Carried the Lakers through the finals to another championship in the finals. Honorable mention to Jason Kidd for taking the Nets to the top of the Eastern Conference. 7. Vince Carter. Superstar that he is, his team made the playoffs because he was injured. 8. Jason Kidd deserved the MVP Award. I understand why Duncan got it (tougher conference, also had lack of supporting cast), but Kidd deserved something. 9. Carolina Hurricanes. People talked about their soft division, then were happy to ignore their great play-off run until they lost in the finals. 10. Lakers. Just didn't seem to be as good as the media is trying to make them out as. Finished third (right?) during the regular season, then barely made it past the Kings in the conference finals. Not as dominating as many think. 11. Lakers. They were the general consensus at the beginning of the season and the media was happy to keep the hype machine going for them. When you have Shaq and Kobe on the defending championship team coached by Phil Jackson in Los Angeles, of course they are going to get a ton of hype. 12. Red Wings. Dominated in the regular season, then followed through in the playoffs.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted June 25, 2002 1.Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'd have to say Barry Bonds and his HR. 2.Ken Caminiti and Jose Canseco with the steroid allegations. 3.US over Portugal 3-2. No one gave US a hope in hell but they went out and got it done. 4.Toronto Maple Leafs b/c they worked through the adversity, crippled Michael Peca and came oh so close. 5.Devils destroying the Canes in G3- I thought there was hope but there wasn't. 6. Jason Kidd- NJ Nets- 26 wins to NBA finals. 7.Jeff Agoos- US Football Team- Every goal the other team he scored it was his fault. 8.Jason Kidd-MVP. See above. 9.Vancouver Canucks for being best team after XMas. 10. France- they were supposed to be hot shit but got their ass kicked in the World Cup. 11. Argentina- Group of Death, the match with England. 12. Best team- Brazil. Just owning World Cup.

Guest Powerplay Report post Posted June 25, 2002 1) Which athlete has helped his sport the most in 2002? Jason Kidd getting teamwork back into the NBA. 2) Which athlete has hurt his sport the most in 2002? Big bad Shaq shoving finesse basketball out of the way for brute strength. 3) Which game was the biggest upset of 2002 so far? Senegal vs. France, simply because France was #1 and Senegal was ranked somewhere like #42. 4) Which team deserves/deserved to win their championship in their respective sport more than any other team in 2002? Tie between the Patriots and the Red Wings: Both teams went through a lot of hard games to get what the truly deserved. 5) Which game had the biggest "Hangover" moment of 2002(a moment where it felt good while it was going on, but later hits you like a bad hangover with how horrible it really was)? I already said mine, but it was Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. It was cool at first to watch Roy get blasted, but the more I look at the game the more I see him getting humiliated because his defense totally gave up. 6) Which athlete did the most for his team in 2002? Jason Kidd for making the NJ Nets a Championship-worthy team. 7) Which athlete did the least for his team in 2002? I can think of many hockey players that fall into this category: Eric Lindros, Pavel Bure, Alexi Yashin (didn't step up in the playoffs when Peca was out), any given Calgary Flame besides Jarome Iginla, the former coach of the Philadelphia Flyers. 8) Which athlete didn't get an award but really deserved one in 2002? Jason Kidd deserved the MVP in the NBA and Steve Yzerman deserves something for playing through incredible pain to lead his team. 9) Which team gots the no recognition for its accomplishments in 2002? Tie with the Ottawa Senators and the NJ Nets. They weren't expected to get as far as they did. Both teams should have gone farther. 10) Which team got too much recognition for its accomplishments in 2002? New York Yankees because there is always something going on with them. 11) Which team had the most hype surrounding it in 2002? The Detroit Red Wings and the Los Angeles Lakers. Both teams were considered the best in their class. and finally 12) Overall, which team so far has been the best team of 2002? The Detroit Red Wings hands down. It was a team where everyone, not just the stars, contributed in every game. A total team effort to get the Presidents Trophy and the Stanley Cup. How about these two: What was the most exciting match up of 2002? (Det vs. Col and LA vs. Sac are both top choices here.) What was the single most exciting game of 2002? Game 3 Stanley Cup Finals. Three OTs going on four with spectacular plays, rocksolid goaltending throughout, and it being the first SC game in North Carolina.

The Superbowl, but I'd put the World Cup right behind that. 4) Which team deserves/deserved to win their championship in their respective sport more than any other team in 2002? -Red Wings, they just dismantled their playoff foes while people said they were "too old." 5) Which game had the biggest "Hangover" moment of 2002(a moment where it felt good while it was going on, but later hits you like a bad hangover with how horrible it really was)? -Kyle McLaren taking out Zednik in the first round Bruins-Canadiens series. Helped his team focus on the task at hand. 7) Which athlete did the least for his team in 2002? - Terry Glenn, played one game and whined like a baby the whole season. Good riddance. 8) Which athlete didn't get an award but really deserved one in 2002? - Bill Belichick, Coach of the Year. 9) Which team gots the no recognition for its accomplishments in 2002? - Patriots, they're underdogs in their first game at a new stadium against the team they beat for the AFC title. 10) Which team got too much recognition for its accomplishments in 2002? -Lakers, Red Aurabauch (sp?) is still the best playoff coach. 11) Which team had the most hype surrounding it in 2002? -Rams, at least, in the playoffs. and finally 12) Overall, which team so far has been the best team of 2002? -Have to go with the Patriots again. Would be a terrific story, with no exaggeration needed. 5) Which game had the biggest "Hangover" moment of 2002(a moment where it felt good while it was going on, but later hits you like a bad hangover with how horrible it really was)? Lewis-Tyson. Nice to see Tyson get the pulp beat out of him, but then you realize that the heavyweight division is infinitely more exciting without Lewis as champ. 6) Which athlete did the most for his team in 2002? As much as I hate the Leafs, I do like some players, so it would have been good to see some of my favorite players hoist the Cup. I'd have rather see the Leafs win than Detroit, because Canada needs a Cup, even though they got those gold medals I wonder if guys in the locker rooms of teams with players on USA and Canada asked, "Where are your friggin' gold medals?", ala Kurt Angle.
