Bill Watts Presents, Taped March 12, 1987

This is my first atttempt to do a review of an old school promotion's weekly TV show, this particular one is for the Universal Wrestling Federation. I won't do very indepth descriptions though because it'd be very boring to read.

Bill Watts owned Mid South Wrestling, picture WWE now, but minus backstage skits and stupid storylines. Watts had Jim Ross as a play by play, his shows had shorter matches but with lots of action, the shows were ran completely off of angles.

In 1986 to stop the rising power of the WWF, Watts took his group national and what's bigger than the world? The Universe of course.

Hosted by Jim Ross and various people on color commentary.

Ross tells us that we have two title matches this week. Eddie Gilbert challenges Savanah Jack for the UWF TV Title, and Ted DiBiase and Sam Houston challenge Chris Adams and Terry Taylor for the UWF Tag Team Titles.

Opening Match: UWF Tag Team titles, Terry Taylor and Chris Adams © vs Ted DiBiase and Sam Houston.

This a rare all babyface and good friends match. Taylor and DiBiase do a nice criss cross sequence and Taylor drops down but DiBiase is too smart. Adams and Houston do a nice wrestling sequence on the mat. Jump to the end as Taylor and DiBiase do a reversal seqence and Terry goes for his knee drop when the ten minutes time limit expires. They all shake hands and leave the ring together.

Bruce Prichard interviews Ted DiBiase and Ted talks about how he's beaten both UWF Champions but never had a contract to get the title. He promises he'll do it soon, he would be Million Dollar man seven months later.

Iceman Parsons vs Ken Massey.

Parsons is in street clothes and says he won't fight Massey because he "aint got no beef with him". He wants "that lowlife, that Oreo, Savanah Jack". Massey turns his back and Parsons jumps him, he throws him over the top for the DQ. MASSEY WINS, MASSEY WINS, MASSEY WINS. *****. Just kidding DUD.

Jim Ross gives us a clip of what happened on the UWF's Power Pro Wrestling show with Devastation Inc and The Fabulous Freebirds.

Akbar makes a $1000.00 bet with Michael Hayes that his protege The Super Ninja can't beat The Freebird's protege The Angel Of Death (named for an old Thin Lizzy Song), Hayes exepts the bet.

The bell rings for the match, Akbar gives the Ninja some cash and he leaves, Hayes laughs untill the AOD jumps him and beats him to a pulp. UWF Champion One Man Gang starts to splash Hayes. Buddy "Jack" Roberts hits the ring to save but he gets beat down too. Terry Gordy was in Japan. But next week he'll be back.

Main Event: UWF TV Title: Savanah Jack © vs "Hotstuff" Eddie Gilbert.

Gilbert has Missy Hayatt but she doens't look like a skank yet. The match story is that Eddie cheats and Jack overcomes it. The ref gets bumped and Iceman hits the ring and Jack gives him his version of the superkick, (Picture HBK's but without the run, he just stands there and kicks) Gilbert gets it too and Savanah Jack does the ether on the towel trick and Eddie gets the pin. **

This was the first sign that Watts let Eddie be the booker. Watts had previously written himself into the storylines as a sympathetic character. Watts also pushed black wrestlers to the moon.

Plenty of action packed into a one hour show. give me some feedback on your thoughts of it. I'll probaly do one on Friday, I don't know what fed yet though.

Good rant. Hell, you could write a horrendus rant on regional wrestling and I'll still like it.
