WWE General Discussion - February 2009

Recommended Posts

PWI is confirming that Randy Savage was backstage at the Royal Rumble very early in the day to discuss his 3-disc DVD documentary set, which will be releasing on June 9. It was supposedly the first time Savage and Vince have talked since Vince unsuccessfully tried to bring Savage back to the WWF in 1996 when his WCW contract expired.

There was no news about a Hall of Fame spot or if it was even discussed.

Link plz.

WCW TV Title Tournament Quarter Finals: Johnny B. Badd pinned Chris Benoit by lifting his shoulder out of Benoit's dragon suplex and Benoit pinned himself.

-------

Has this finish been used lately? It sounds simple yet awesome.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone hates the "dude pinned himself" finish (it's been done about 500 times in WWE history, usually to trick an audience into thinking a title changed hands).

Still not as bad as Carlito and Chris Masters being in a WWE Title Chamber Match.

They were the last guys left in the match at the end!

Masters and Carlito where solid upper midcarders at the time. Masters had the big push with the Masterlock Challange going for and Carlito had a decent cool heel persona. Knox is generic hoss getting a token push 2,673-B.

Wrong. Knox has the greatest, most powerful beard in all of wrestling.

Here comes problem number two: WWE has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees to Jerry McDevitt telling the world that its wrestlers are "independent contractors"...not employees (despite the fact that a cursory reading of any website citing IRS regulations that determine contractor vs. employee make abundantly clear that WWE wrestlers are employees). Why does this matter? Independent contractors can't sue under Americans with Disability Act regulations.

This is a ridiculous criticism. WWE has also stated that wrestling is not real, yet it's portrayed as real in the shows. If WWE hasn't stated that wrestlers are independent contractors as part of a storyline on television, then what does it matter in basis of another storyline?

It's plausible (Koch is the Canadian distributor for WWE videos)

This morning on Bubba the Love Sponge's radio show, he asked Kelly Kelly if the Bra & Panties match would be returning at WrestleMania. Her response was, "Nope, we don't do that anymore. We're PG now."

Just to exemplify how PG WWE is now, she also mentioned that Beth Phoenix got a small amount of heat for her thong underwear being exposed for her entire match at the Royal Rumble with Melina.

Makes you wonder what matches they'd have on it.

If they don't have Jake the Snake and Undertaker ruining Elizabeth and Randy's wedding afterparty at Summerslam 1991, I'll cry!

Hahahaha. This is coming from the same company who 10 years ago had Sable with handprint Latex covering her breasts in a thong on Monday Night Raw. How much did that cover? A little bit more than her nipples, areola and some of her breasts. I remember watching and seeing side boob and the below the nipple area being visible. This is the same company who had Miss Kitty flash a decade ago. The same company who promoted their video game 3-4 years ago for having a Bra and Panties match. Vince would have put nudity on a ppv if he didn't fear sponsorship pulling out.

I am so sick of the WWE caterting to the religious right groups and 6 years. Why is a tv show on from 9-11 catering to first graders who should be in bed anyways. PPV's are on from 8-11. Back to 1993 we go. Lets get some more wrestling Clowns, Racecar drivers and garbage men.

I'd be totally fine with a clown stable. As long as it doesn't have a midget clown, cause that just ruins the horrifying nightmare inducing fun.

Agreed, as long as it was like the original Doink and therefore, a stable of EVIL CLOWNS~!

Yeah, I don't think scaling back the graphic nature of the programming is a bad thing at all.

What graphic nature? The wwe hasn't been close to graphic in a long time... And How does an adult wrestling fan possibly enjoy a product that is catering to children? The more pg it gets, the worse it is. I don't want to return to the early 90s or 80s...the only difference right now is they don't have cartoon characters but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that's where they are going before too long.

I don't get it really. One of the most successful periods they ever had along with the most successful characters they ever had were when the wwe didn't cater to children and the characters were more colorful/realistic. I'm not saying they have to go back to naked women on tv or wrestlers playing porn stars but I find it absurd and insulting that they go from one extreme to the other...whatever happened to the middle ground? Like no blood? Are you fucking kidding me? This is fucking professional wrestling for gods sake. It's no wonder why I find more enjoyment out of watching 25 year old nwa videos on youtube than i do about anything the wwe is doing today.

I selfishly hope this experiment fails miserably.

I still say that they should reboot the Doink character with a Ledger-twist. That would interest the hell out of me.

Dollar signs at the moment say otherwise.

Catering to children is purely an economic decision and nothing more. Having children as your primary audience opens revenue streams from advertisers and other areas that would shy away from a more "Attitude" style product.

They recently re-aired pretty much every part of the post-SummerSlam Savage/Snake saga on 24/7, and it was still causing people I know to mark out. At least one Flair match has gotta be guaranteed, so hopefully its WM 8, plus a lot of Hogan/Megapowers stuff. I'd also hope to finally see the Bret/Savage SNME match, unless its supposed to be on the SNME set.

Speaking of the Megapowers, f they don't put the Tower of Doom Steel Cage matchI'll cry.

They were known as the Monster Maniacs in WCW. You have to call them that.

Yeah... I'm guessing the WM VIII match with Flair would be a lock since Savage actually won that match. I'd also figure on Savage vs. DiBiase from Wrestlemania IV would be in it as well.

It also makes me wonder if they'll put some of his matches that feature him losing. WM III with Steamboat has been done to death, but would they put in WM VII with Warrior for the ending alone?

Apparently Tommy Dreamer's kayfabe contract expiration is in July, not in June. I guess that clears up that plot hole.

The phrase plot hole should be banned from this forum

So, what does everyone think of the idea of Legacy taking both Shane and Steph out in the same night with punts, and then running RAW for awhile, only for Linda McMahon to make a surprise appearence to put a control over the Legacy, only to eat a punt and be wrote off TV forever?

Damn you. They'll always be the Mega Powers in my heart, brother. Were the Mega Maniacs Hogan and Beefcake?

No.

I have to say though, I loved that 6-week period of RAW where because Vince was gone and RAW had no GM there was no running the show and it was basic anarchy. I really feel they could've gone farther with that.
