U of L vs. UConn should be a great game tomorrow. Unlike the Pitt game where I was reasonably certain of a win, this one won't be easy (not that the Pitt game was easy). But the Cardinals need this game to keep up with Marquette.

Incidentally, I can't believe how easy of a time Marquette has had in the Big East thus far. Mostly mediocre teams and the somewhat decent teams have all been at home (WVU, Nova, G'Town). Their next 5 have the likes of DePaul, USF, Seton Hall, and St. John's. They better run it to 12-1 or so in conf. because the last 5 is much tougher: at G'Town, UConn, at U of L, at Pitt, Syracuse.

Marquette seems like a good team but their schedule has been very favorable thus far.

Well, Michigan tried like hell, but they couldn't pull the big upset at UConn. Seems like they can get up for the big boys (beating UCLA, splitting with Duke, playing UConn tough), but it just doesn't translate during Big Ten play. Michigan's still got a shot at the Tournament though, they just need to handle their business at home and try to get a road win or two.

Florida State overcame a 19 point deficit to upset #10 Clemson 65-61. HUGE win, absolutely huge. They let the game against North Carolina get away on a great late shot but this time they really made a statement about their future. Of course, they usually follow up these statements with a loss that shouldn't happen so I'm hoping they follow it up with a win.

Great game, great comeback and just perfectly played second half.

Memphis destroyed Gonzaga tonight.

To think, they might make it back in the top 10....in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Tyreke Evans is insane.

Well, at least with all these teams going down that loss to UConn won't hurt as long as U of L takes down St. John's tomorrow at MSG.

Dare I say it but UCLA might be playing some of the best basketball in the country right now, at least ever since that Washington loss. It's hard to read into that though. Are they really this good or is it just playing at home and catching a team like ND when they are really struggling?

Bob, why do I somehow sense a Louisville/Memphis Sweet 16 game this year?

Hey Cowboy, how did you appreciate that second half?

Loved seeing the seniors walk off the court with four fingers in the air.

Memphis is becoming scary good at this point. They destroyed Gonzaga on Saturday and last night Robert Dozier had a career high 23 points. It's amazing how Coach Cal has totally reimagined this team to be all about defence.

I am concerned about the suspension of Matt Simpkins, since that leaves them thin at the front court. It sounds like Coach Cal knows this, as he gave him every chance in the world before pulling the trigger.

Bob, believe me when I say this but being all about defense isn't a formula to win it all in March. U of L is in much the same boat as Memphis, with the two teams being #1 and 2 in defense (according to kenpom.com). Thing is Memphis at least has a top 40 level offense and U of L is 90th in offense. If that game does happen in the tourney, it will be an eyesore.

Once the regular season ends round up the teams that are legit contenders and avg. 78+ points a game and one of those teams will be the national champion.

I've been reasonably impressed with Missouri this year, but then I liked Mike Anderson's UAB teams as well.

I do think Memphis has to work on their jump shots, as I know defence isn't going to win a championship, because sooner or later, you're going to have to score. They've been shooting better though, and their games haven't been that ugly recently. They shot 44 percent last night and held Tulsa to 37 points.

Temple NEARLY blew an 11 point lead in a minute. St Joes got it down to 2 with 4 seconds left but the St Joes player forced a shot when he had time to get closer and Temple literally SURVIVED with a win.

Meanwhile, Louisville got destroyed by Notre Dame. Dame looked to be unraveling before this but they just dominated.

Dear God that was just awful tonight. That game was the perfect storm of crap. All year U of L has gotten by with stellar D and zero offense, but tonight was the typical hideous shooting effort combined with ND just going nuts and hitting everything. Bottom line is this: The next two games are must wins (DePaul and Providence). Losing either at home is scary indeed.

Dama, I'll give it up for OU this year. They've been really top notch and the Big 12 is a bit better than people realize. Kansas has been strong even in a rebuilding year and Mizzou could be a real dark horse. It's really just Texas that is underwhelming.

As far as Player of the Year goes though, I'd have to say Jodie Meeks. Maybe it's seeing UK's games locally but this guy is just awesome. Minus Patterson yesterday UK still beat Arkansas by 16 on the road with Meeks going for 45. Without Meeks UK wouldn't beat anyone at all.

It's Bracket Buster Week with the feature match-up being Butler/Davidson although Stephen Curry's status is up in the air after spraining his ankle the other day. Here's a link to the full schedule.

It's quite bewildering that some hoops fans downplayed that Dyson injury. That seriously hurt UConn tonight combined with Blair making Thabeet look like a bitch out there. I thought about that potential big man matchup a few weeks ago when UConn trashed U of L, desperately wishing the Cardinals had some big mofo to knock Thabeet around. Blair is the sort that will knock Thabeet down, rough him up, put an armbar on him. Once someone stood up to Thabeet, he lost interest.
