Guest slabinskia Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 since the wwf matches got so much feedback i thought id try a wcw top 50.if i get feedback i will post what i think is a good wcw top 50.
Guest I Fear Hogans Air Guitair Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Booker T VS Chris Beniot Best out of 7. Jeff Jarret VS Beniot Ladder Match That is all.
Guest wolverine Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Best WCW match ever is Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Eddy Guerrero from Havoc '97. I think this is better than any WWF match as well.
Guest MideonMark Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Brian Pillman vs Jushin Lyger-forget when its from, but I think it was aroung 1991 Chrsi Benoit vs Bret Hart-Owen Hart Memorial Show, is an easy top 50 candidate Raven/Perry Saturn vs Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko-from I think Spring Stampede 98, is an excellent match. The ending is perfect as it shows the Horsemen willing to do anything to pull out a victory Really any combination of Raven/Benoit/DDP-but specifically I thought the match where Raven passes out from the Crossface with a smile on his face was excellent Cactus Jack/Kevin Sullivan vs Nasty Boys-Awesome brawl, hardcore before hardcore was cool Thre are lots more that I forget, even WCW had its fair share of awesome matches
Guest thebigjig Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Does the NWA count (WCW's mother?) If so, I think it's HANDS down Flair/Steamboat '89... either the 2/3 falls match or the blow off at WrestleWar. Doesn't get ANY better than that Sting/Luger vs. Steiners from SuperBrawl Any of the Wargames matches I'm also a huge fan of the Magnum TA vs. Tully Blanchard cage match where they bludgeon each other with a steel microphone, and then Magnum stabs Tully in the head with a wooden spike... Now that was hardcore before it was hardcore!
Guest wolverine Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Does the NWA count (WCW's mother?) If so, I think it's HANDS down Flair/Steamboat '89... either the 2/3 falls match or the blow off at WrestleWar. Doesn't get ANY better than that I've seen several matches better than that. But if we're talking NWA title matches, hands down it's Terry Funk vs. Jumbo Tsuruta 6/11/76.
Guest BigTim2002 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 OK...dude, bringing up a Jumbo Tsuruta match...you just rule so much...
Guest RickyChosyu Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Well, here's DVDR's top 20, and it's as good a list as any, as far as I'm concerned: 1) Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Eddy Guerrero - Halloween Havoc ’97 (10/26/97 - Cruiserweight Title) 2) Chris Beniot vs. Bret Hart – Nitro (10/4/99) 3) Psychosis vs. Rey Mysterio, Jr. – Bash at the Beach ’96 (7/7/96) 4) Jushin Liger vs. Brian Pillman - Superbrawl '92 (2/29/92 - Light Heavyweight Title) 5) Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat - Spring Stampede '94 (4/17/94 - World Title) 6) Sting/Koloff/Rhodes/Steamboat/Windham vs. Anderson/Eaton/Austin/Zbysko/Rude - Wrestlewar '92 (5/17/92 - Wargames) 7) Ric Flair vs. Vader - Starrcade '93 (12/27/93 - World Title) 8) Ricky Steamboat vs. Rick Rude – Beach Blast ’92 (6/20/92 – Ironman Match) 9) Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko vs. Raven/Perry Saturn – Spring Stampede '99 (4/11/99) 10) Nasty Boys vs. Cactus Jack/Kevin Sullivan - Slamboree ’94 (5/23/94 - Falls Count Anywhere, Tag Titles) 11) Flair/Windham/Vicious/Zbysko vs. Sting/Pillman/Steiners - Wrestlewar '91 (2/24/91- Wargames) 12) Midnight Express vs. Southern Boys – Great American Bash ’90 (7/7/90 - US Tag Titles) 13) Chris Benoit vs. Kevin Sullivan – GAB ’96 (6/16/96 - Falls Count Anywhere) 14) Vader vs. Cactus Jack – Halloween Havoc ’93 (10/24/93 – Texas Death Match) 15) Chris Benoit vs. Dean Malenko - Hog Wild ’96 (8/10/96) 16) Big Van Vader vs. Sting - Superbrawl '93(2/21/93 - Strap Match) 17) Steiner Brothers vs. Sting/Lex Luger - Superbrawl '91 (5/19/91 - Tag Titles) 18) Sting vs. Vader – Great American Bash ’92 (7/12/92 – World Title) 19) Juventud Guerrera vs. Blitzkreig – Spring Stampede ’99 (4/11/99) 20) Nasty Boys vs. Cactus Jack/Maxx Payne - Spring Stampede '94 (4/17/94 - Falls Count Anywhere, Tag Titles) They left off a few; Guerrero/Ohtani from Starrcade '95, Guerrero/Malenko from Uncensored '97 and Finlay/Regal from a year later, but other than that I can't really complain.
Guest thebigjig Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I've seen several matches better than that. But if we're talking NWA title matches, hands down it's Terry Funk vs. Jumbo Tsuruta 6/11/76. Well I'm just saying that I'm in the majority that believes Flair/Steamboat was the greatest match of all time And yes, Tsuruta vs. Funk was great also I forgot another classic series of matches that's often forgotten Brisco vs. Dory Funk. Their American matches and Japan matches were off he page
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 i'm going to include nwa 1. ric flair vs. ricky steamboat (clash of the champions 6) a forgotten really good match was a nitro match rey vs. psicosis vs. blitzkrieg vs. juvi for the cruiserweight title. it is the match where psicosis wins the title.
Guest hhh6294 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Really any combination of Raven/Benoit/DDP-but specifically I thought the match where Raven passes out from the Crossface with a smile on his face was excellent I simply LOVED anything that DDP/Raven/Benoit did with the US title. One thing that Ricky did leave out though that was really sweet was the Best of 7 Series between Benoit and Booker T... that was one of the biggest highlights of Booker's career.
Guest Coffin Surfer Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Sting vs. Vader Bash 92 I think this is one of the greatest and most underrated American matches of the 90s. They would work better matches, but this one just had such a shock factor to it. Sting is the Hogan like inviciable All American baby kisser. Vader is the big bully monster heel, who is suppose to be fed to him at the big PPV. So what happens, Sting gets his ass handed to him and Vader gets the clean win. Plus it was a damn good match. BTW, I'am not counting the NWA stuff.
Guest slabinskia Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 ok sice i started this topic here is my top 50.im only going to go from the 80s to the present since i havent really seen any 70s wrestling.also,i never saw rey-eddie so thats why its not in here.i wont put in the benoit-booker series cause how can you rank those.i think flair-vader and liger-pilman is overrated so beware of that.if i forgot any i prabably havent seen them.this will be ruled by flair and steamboat.here they are. 1.flair-steamboat clash 6 2/3 falls 2.flair-steamboat chi-town rumble 3.steamboat-rude beach blast 92 4.flair-kerry voneric 12/82 cage match 5.fantastics-midnight express clash 1 6.wargames 92 7.flair-steamboat wrestlewar 89 8.flair-race starcade 83 9.wargames 87 10.benoit-sullivan gab96 11.benoit-malenko hog wild 96 12.flair-windahm 1/87 worldwide tv 13.rey mysterio-psychosis batb 96 14.bret-benoit 10/99 nitro 15.cactus jack/kevin sullivan-nasty boys slamboree 94 16.flair-steamboat spring stampede 94 17.sting-vader gab 92 18.cactus/max payne-nasty boys spring stampede 94 19.southern boys-midnight express gab 90 20.sting/luger-steiners superbrawl 1 21.benoit/malenko-raven/saturn spring stampede 99 22.piper-valentine starcade 83 23.benoit/malenko-raven/saturn-rey mysterio/kidman slamboree 99 24.vader-cactus wcw sn 4/93 25.flair-funk i quit clash9 26.sting-cactus beach blast 92 27.pilman-liger superbrawl 2 28.blitzkreig-juvi spring stampede 99 29.steamboat/dustin-arn/zbysko clash 11/91 30.flair-vader starcade 93 31.pilman-johnny b badd fall brawl 95 32.wargames 91 33.flair-arn fall brawl 95 34.regal-finnley uncensored 96 35.flair/arn-hollywood blondes clash of champions 6/93 36.rey mysterio-juvi-psychosis-blitzkreig nitro 4/99 37.flair-sting clash 1 38.cactus-vader havoc 93 39.benoit-scorpio superbrawl 3 40.benoit-ddp superbrawl 8 41.benoit-booker gab 98 42.flair-kerry voneric 10/85 1hr draw 43.flair-sting clash of champions 6/94 44.steiners-fujinami/? wrestlewar 92 45.malenko-ultimate dragon clash of champions 1/97 46.flair-luger starcade 88 47.steiners-nastys havoc 90 48.austin-johnny b badd slamboree 94 49.malenko-rey mysterio havoc 96 50.malenko-guerrero uncensored 97
Guest Zack Malibu Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Hollywood Blondes vs. Steamboat/Douglas produced a ton of great matches. The Blondes vs. Arn/Flair, Clash 21 I believe. Steamboat vs. Austin (both BATB 94 and the Clash from August 94 were great matches.)
Guest The Son of Sting Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Every Flair/Steamboat match 1) Sting/Koloff/Rhodes/Steamboat/Windham vs. Anderson/Eaton/Austin/Zbysko/Rude - Wrestlewar '92 (5/17/92 - Wargames) 2) Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Eddy Guerrero - Halloween Havoc ’97 (10/26/97 - Cruiserweight Title) 3) Sting vs. Vader – Great American Bash ’92 (7/12/92 – World Title) 4) Steiner Brothers vs. Sting/Lex Luger - Superbrawl '91 (5/19/91 - Tag Titles) 5) Vader vs. Cactus Jack – Halloween Havoc ’93 (10/24/93 – Texas Death Match) 6) Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko vs. Raven/Perry Saturn – Spring Stampede '99 (4/11/99) 7) Nasty Boys vs. Cactus Jack/Kevin Sullivan - Slamboree ’94 (5/23/94 - Falls Count Anywhere, Tag Titles) 8) Flair/Windham/Vicious/Zbysko vs. Sting/Pillman/Steiners - Wrestlewar '91 (2/24/91- Wargames) 9) Midnight Express vs. Southern Boys – Great American Bash ’90 (7/7/90 - US Tag Titles) 10) Sting vs Cactus Jack - Beach Blast 92
Guest Gamengiri2002 Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 slabinskia, I agree with all the matches you listed (not precisely in that order) for the most part. My only complaints lie in the exclusion of Ohtani/Guerrero from Starrcade 95, Ultimo/Rey from World War 3 96, Ultimo/Malenko from Starrcade 96, and Tully/Magnum from Starrcade 85
Guest gwf0704 Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 Rick Rude v Sting where Rude was dressed as the Phantom, I think, and won the US title. Sting v Muta where Muta beat Sting for US title using 2 wrestling rings, dont remember the ppv.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 i'd say damn near every one of the wargames matches was a classic. until the later years of course.
Guest MideonMark Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 The Chric Benoit vs Kevin Sullivan Falls Count Anywhere match-is that that spawned the now legendary line 'There is a woman in the mens bathroom' and if so why is this match so highly rate? Because from what I remember its all punch, punch, punch, until a Superplex(which I believe is the only wrestling move used in the match) finished it Maybe you're talking about a different match cause I thought that one sucked
Guest MideonMark Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 ''is that that spawned'' That was obviously supposed to read 'is that the match that spawned'
Guest Singular Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 92 Wargames was my all time favorite for WCW. Flair vs. Vader where Flair gets his ass handed too him for 20 minutes then rolls Vader up after clipping his knee. Rey jr. vs. Eddy Guerrero 97 was the best cruiser match I have seen in WCW. Rey vs. Malenko from HH 95 was really good as well. Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko vs. Raven/Perry Saturn. I wish WWE could do tag matches like this. DDP vs. Benoit vs. Raven, was one of the best three way's I've seen.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted June 29, 2002 Report Posted June 29, 2002 Steiners vs sting/luger blitzkrieg vs juventud SS99 Steamboat/Dustin vs The Enforcers Steamboat vs Flair 2/3 falls. Ive seen alot of dory and brisco matches but you still cant change my opinion that this is the greatest match ever. Bret vs Benoit from Nitro. Flair vs Luger Wrestlewar 90 Flair/windham vs Midnight Express COTC Season's Beatings Fantastics vs Midnight Express from COTC1 there are a TON of great wcw matches and so many are overlooked.
