Greatest African American Wrestlers

Recommended Posts

I'd take Mero off the list because... he's kinda useless.

I wouldn't say he was useless... He was great under a stupid gimmick and got over with the crowd and had a very decent career and was a very underrated match. But regardless, take him off because he isn't black...

I was neighbors with Maxx Payne, Mero ending his undefeated streak in WCW will never be forgiven. NEVER! Although he was decent mid-card fodder, but even if he was black, not one of the twenty of all time.

If thats how you are doing you're list, Booker T should atleast be in the top 3... He's accomplished as much as any wrestler there is, regardless of race as far belts goes.

Yeah I was just thinking about that when I saw my list again. I tried not to overthink it and just put them down quickly right after I got a big list together. Pacman Jones, Zeus, were my attempts at comedy but Zeus did main event a pay per view.

Puerto Rican or black? Carlos Colon would be top 15, Carly top 30-40.

What world are you living in? You do know there are blacks in Puerto Rico?

Carlos is a Afro-Puerto Rican... Carly is half black like The Rock.

There was a wrestler back in the 50s and 60s named Sweet Daddy Siki. He was a quick, high flyer type (for those days) who often tag teamed with BoBo Brazil. He was quite good, and a pretty big star in several of the territories. He also was notable for doing a heel turn in an era when most wrestlers stayed pretty much face or heel throughout their careers. His turn was signaled by him suddenly appearing with blonde hair. I rarely watch WWE, but I did happen to have Raw on when Shelton Benjamin first showed up with the bleach job, and was quite amused to hear JR say that he was channeling Sweet Daddy Siki. Siki insisted that his hair was naturally blonde, and that he'd been dying it black all along to go along with other people's assumptions about black people. By my memory, he was a bigger star, and a better wrestler, than many of the folks on the list you've all been discussing.
