Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted June 26, 2002 More so than say baseball memorabillia collectors (I dare say you call Barry Halper or Todd McFarlane retarted) This is in response to the Undertaker WM 13 Commemorative Mat Plaque thread where, I assume jokingly, Anglesault queried if the person Dames is looking to give the plaque to was retarted, to which Dames stated she is a collector of them (never really let my wrestling collection go beyond figures and cards so I don't know much about them) But it brings out an intresting point, wrestling and other non-sports (generally the sci-fi/comics crowd) card or memorabillia collectors tend to be put in the ultimate geek variety while collecting baseball, football, hockey, and other mainstream sports memorabillia is percieved as perfectly acceptable behavior (I don't know, maybe it is or isn't but the fact that I haven't seen anyone refer to someone as a geek because they amassed various baseball programs, cards, magazines, yearbooks, ect while say a Star Trek memorabillia collector is treated as an outcast type) I'm not even going to get into the amount of tapes that wrestling fans tend to have because I'm sure THAT is considered to be a tad askew by non-fans (or even causals) BTW I do find it odd though that there isn't much out there on wrestling memorabillia on the web. I do find alot on figures and of course tapes, and such but I haven't found a SINGLE website EVER dedicated to wrestling trading cards, there has to be a market for them, I mean major companies like Topps and Fleer have produced sets over the years (right now Fleer is the home of WWF trading cards)
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 26, 2002 Well, baseball and other sports memoriblillililialiailia(i give up, you know what I mean) have some finacial value which can always be defended. If a person trys to pick at a person with a bunch of baseball stuff, they just break out a price guide and say "Well, this is worth 70,000 dollars and all this stuff could be one day" people basically shut up. Same for comics. But in the wrestling stuff, there isn't really anykind of finacial reason, or EXCUSE, to get the stuff besides being a diehard fan. Those that collect the baseball stuff actually are the same, they just have better excuses.
