Unsung Heroes Thread-best matches

What matches do you feel were as good as the mainstream classics, but never quite made the cut, for whatever reason.

My pick would have to be Sting/Ricky Steamboat vs. Ric Flair/Steve Austin from a Saturday Night in 1994. Great work, great heat, just an all around good match with 4 superior workers. Can't ask for anything more than that.

Even though it gets some attention, I still LOVE the Malenko/Scotty match from Backlash 2000.

The original table match was also forgotten as soon as Terri was put through a table the next night.

Bret vs. Owen in the cage doesn't get mentioned as much as their WM10 match even though it's a phenomenal match and gets ***** in my book.

rey mysterio jr vs. blitzkrieg vs. juventud guerrera vs. psicosis from a nitro in 99 I believe for the cruiserweight title is pretty underrated. psicosis wins the title and it was easily a ****1/2 match.

Whipwreck vs Kidman...WCW Uncensored 99

-15 minute CLASSIC! In my Mikey mark world I give this *****. Mikey works what should have been a carrer making match, instead then they job him to Disco, Van Hammer, and Scotty Riggs and don't give him one chance to work a good match again with an above average worker.

Credible vs Douglas...ECW Cyberslam 99

-I know this board has a lot of Credible haters, but this was a 25 minute classic loaded with great psychology.

From Dreamer420:

rey mysterio jr vs. blitzkrieg vs. juventud guerrera vs. psicosis

-I marked big time for this...I was a huge Psicosis fan...then they job the title right away from him...they wasted him

Jerry Lawler v Kerry Von Erich for the USWA/WCCW world title. Pretty cool to see both Lawler as the face and Von Erich as the heel.

Shane Douglas vs. Taz, ECW Guilty As Charged 2000

-I'm a big Douglas mark, as I think the guy had "it" in the ring and got people to either hate him or love him. I actually considered Douglas to be an NC-17 (for language and violence) version of Ric Flair at one point. It's obvious that HHH stole "The Game" gimmick from Shane's "The Franchise" gimmick.

RVD/Sabu vs. Hayabusa/Jinsei Shinzaki

-I think we all know my love for this great, great spotfest. And Scott Keith has no right giving this match * when these guys worked harder than any of the 6 people involved in TLC1 and 2 (which both got *****, and I'll never know why).

RVD/sabu vs hayabusa/shinzaki was horrible, blown stuff and just depressingly bad to watch. Shinzaki is of course, lazy as fuck. Sabu was crippled, rob couldn't quite wrestle yet and haybusa was having difficulty communicating. I thought the TLC's had more spots, more impressive spots, were planned far more strategically, had better workrate and the ladder match aspect made it more fun to watch.

I think the radicalz/too cool at no way out 2k was damn good, as was the radz 3 way at judgment day.

I'm going with the match that got me interested in wrestling full-time. That match is Rey Jr. v.s. Dean Malenko around BAB '96, on an edition of Nitro. I had never seen a cruiserweight match before (In fact the only wrestling i had really seen up to that point was Hogan and stuff like that) and this match blew me away.

DDP v. Jarrett v. Arquette from Slamboree was really awesome. Arquette stayed out of the way, and the other guys just really busted ass and it was a great match.

Steve Austin vs. Owen Hart (Summerslam 1997)....looked at for only the injury. Leading up to the injury it was sure to be a **** classic at least.....

Anyone else remember the World Title Match from a Raw sometime in '94 between Bret Hart and the 1-2-3 Kid?

I would imagine that even the ball-licking Waltman Bashers would have to respect that match. (But I'm a pretty imaginative guy)

Hayabusa vs Mr Gannosuke FMW title match not sure on the date. Hayabusa wins with a twisting 540 moonsault.

I saw more stalling and waiting and blown spots in the TLC matches than I did in RVD/Sabu vs. Shinzaki/Hayabusa. I saw a grand total of 2 blown spots, and they were hard to avoid. A table's legs broke, and Shinzaki had to hold RVD on the table for Hayabusa to splash him through, but when Shinzaki put RVD on the table, the other legs broke. And the other one was when Shinzaki just stood still as RVD and Sabu beat the hell out of Hayabusa, not once trying to help his partner. Only bad things about the match I could find.

I'm kinda partial to one weird little tag match which took place right before Halloween Havoc '91 (I think, I could be wrong) which was Sting & Bobby Eaton vs. Cactus Jack & Abdullah the Butcher. Nobody ever remembers or talks about it, but it was an awesome TV match, Cactus did the painful roll-down-the-stairs spot for the first time in memory.

On a Saturday Night, after GAB, when the NWA/WCW Tag Titles were unified in 1992 (3?), there was a match between the Miracle Violence Connection and Dustin Rhodes/Barry Windham. It was one of the best tag team matches I have ever seen. Windham hit a Superplex as Rhodes hit the Bulldog to upset the MVC for the Tag Titles.

Speaking of kick-ass tag matches, TELL me you guys remember when the Enforcers won the Tag Titles, and were to face Rhodes/Windham, but Larry had slammed Windham's hand in the car door, therefore taking him out of the match, so they replaced him with...RICKY F'N STEAMBOAT. That was another great tag team match. Steamer hit his patented High Crossbody, and he and Rhodes won the match for the titles.

Also, Brad Armstrong vs. The Great Muta was a great match. 2/3 falls, both won by Muta, of course, but it was a really cool match.
