Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Anyone else remember the World Title Match from a Raw sometime in '94 between Bret Hart and the 1-2-3 Kid? I would imagine that even the ball-licking Waltman Bashers would have to respect that match. (But I'm a pretty imaginative guy) I have this match on tape, and was actually thinking of putting it in my next post in this thread. Johnny B. Badd vs. Brian Pillman (Fall Brawl '95) Chris Benoit vs. Al Snow (ECW Double Tables event, '95) Dean Malenko vs. "Chris Jericho" (WCW Thunder, early '98)...while it was a short match, it had one of the most original ideas for the time. Jericho was doing the "Steal opponents items" gimmick, and had Juvi's mask, Iaukea's sash, etc. He came out with the mask on for a Cruiserweight Title match, and Malenko made him tap, only to have the real Jericho come out and attack Malenko, revealing the fake to be Lenny Lane. Just a really well done angle, which is big for WCW '98.
Guest whatitistoburn Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Ya know, I was rather fond of the Flair/Mysterio match, only because you knew Rey didn't stand a chance but it was still cool to see a legitimate cruiserweight fighting for the big belt. And Flair going into the pool didn't hurt either.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Malenko/Jericho from 1998 in WCW remains my favorite feud EVER. "Have you ever noticed how you and your brother...LOOK ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ALIKE?!"
Guest LJSexay Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Rock v. Shamrock; King of the Ring 98. **** star effort there.
Guest John Dub Report post Posted June 29, 2002 Am I imagining things, or did Benoit and Angle have a ladder match at what I beleive to be Judgement Day last year? It's never mentioned, but from what I remember, it was a great match. Alot of matches from the InVasion angle were overshadowed by the angle itself, like RVD/Jericho matches. Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted June 29, 2002 Bret_Hart.Vs.Bob_Backlund Survivor_Series_1994 Submission_Match *****! Why_is_it_that_no_one_ever_talks_about this_match?
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 29, 2002 that's the match that backlund wins after helen hart throws in the towel right? if it is, I always liked that match and it was great booking right to the end but it went a little too long for my liking. Guest papacita Report post Posted June 29, 2002 Yeah, Benoit and Angle had the 3 stages of hell type thing. I think it was Submission match, Ladder match and some other stip that I forget, and if Kurt won, he got his gold medals back. As for good matches that never get a lot of credit...HBK and Jarrett from IYH 2 was always one of my favs. I've never heard anything bad about it, but I don't hear a lot of praise either. Another good match from that card was the 1-2-3 Kid and the Roadie (the piledriver from the top was cool). Bret Vs Sid from the Raw the day after Final 4, Austin and HHH from IYH Buried Alive, I vaguely remember an ECW match between Scorpio and someone (Jericho?) summer 96 where after the match Scorpio got up saying "the kid is good". Mankind and Taker from Revenge of Taker, and Bret Vs Austin from the same card. And finally...the Chyna/Jericho series from fall/winter 99. Say what you will about the outcome, those were some nice matches!
Guest papacita Report post Posted June 29, 2002 And the "Triple Header" match between HBK/Diesel and Yoko/Owen from IYH 3....and the "Wild Card" match from Survivor Series 95. I also liked Goldust/Ahmed from KOTR 96.
Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted June 29, 2002 A match mentioned earlier..the match that hooked me into Chris Benoit and ECW....Benoit vs Al Snow from the "Double Tables" show Ric Flair vs Ron Garvin when Garvin wins the NWA World title....mostly because I was 2nd row ringside but it was still a great match. Guest JHawk Report post Posted June 29, 2002 I'm glad to see Backlund-Hart from Sur. Series 94, but for my money, their first match on Superstars in July 1994 was much better, although I've always been huge on face vs. face matches that stay scientific. Most only remember that one for Backlund turning heel afterwards, but the match itself was fantastic. There was a very good Flair/Sid vs. Vader/Austin match from WCWSN that was taped pre-scissors incident but aired after Sid had been fired. Gotta love that WCW taping schedule. There was also an amazng Larry Zbyszko-Lord Steven Regal match that aired on WCWSN in 1994 (the one where Larry won the TV title). Their match at Slamboree sucked shit, but this one was about 20 minutes at an incredible pace. **** easy. 1993-1994--the era of underrated wrestling
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted June 30, 2002 RVD vs Jerry Lynn from a Sept. ECW on TNN 1999 I was there live and the heat on this match was excellent. everyone (including myself) thought this was the night Lynn got the TV title. When he didn't the crowd just deflated. Guest Gomezticator Report post Posted June 30, 2002 The Wrestlemania 7 Career Match: Macho King vs Ultimate Warrior. Excellent match given who was involved (Savage could bring the goods, but we all know how much Warrior sucks in the ring), plus all the drama behind the stips, and the return of ELIZABETH! My bets friend called it the greatest match he had ever seen, and though I wasn't quick to agree when I saw it on tape, that match was AWESOME. And yet I don't hear much about it.
