How much is your rent/mortgage payment? Is your house or apartment worth a shit?

$1,065/month. 2 bedroom/2 bath townhouse-apartment thingy.

Its uh... in a nice neighborhood, kind of a gated community. I'm not really in love with the management, though. I'm looking forward to moving pretty soon, and probably getting a house.

$1000, 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. It's nice enough, about 2,000 square foot with a sun porch. I'm in the moderate to nice side of town. The only drawback is that it's right off a very busy intersection and my back yard backs up to one of the busiest streets in Omaha.

Right now I'm thinking about moving out of downtown because they're raising my rent about $30 plus I kind of want a bit more separation from my work/school life and my personal/nightlife.

I pay $728/month for a 550 sq. ft one bedroom right in the south end of downtown Portland, a couple blocks away from Portland State University, where I both work and go to school. The one thing that sucks is the one grocery store within walking distance is Safeway, and it's a disgusting, dirty, overpriced shithole, and the next closest after that is Whole Foods in the yuppie, overpriced Pearl District. So, I tend to rent a car in the middle of the night and do some grocery shopping a couple miles away over in Beaverton at the 24-hour Winco, at least until the Farmer's Market opens up again (also only a couple blocks from my house) in a couple weeks. It's also pretty convenient because I go to the gym at my school/work for free, so I pretty much never have to venture out past a few blocks unless I'm going out for the night or whatever because the area around my school is a deadzone for the most part at night.

The place I applied for and am hoping to get is over on the east side of the river, in the "eccentric" (read: proliferated by a buncha hippies) Hawthorne area. Lots of bars and places to eat and all that, though. It's also going to be $675 for a one-bedroom, one-bath that's a bit smaller which is cool with me because it'll save money on electric. Comes with personal storage, bike parking, and a private car parking spot in the back as well.

Overall, I think I get a pretty damn good deal considering how urban I am.

I pay $460 a month for rent, utilities included. Cable/internet usually runs me about $60 a month on top of rent. I share a 3 bedroom apartment in North Toronto with two roommates. Our area is nice but a big strange because if I walk out to the major street and go west I'm walking into the Little Jamaica area of Toronto which, for all its awesome food spots is quite scuzzy. If I walk east I head into a heavily Jewish neighborhood, very wealthy. If I walk north from my building I hit the public housing complex affectionately known as "The Jungle". I'm in a weird spot but I like it because I'm super-close to the subway and it's a 10 minute train ride for me to hit the pub district.

Damn, I want to live where ya'll are paying 400-800 a month for rent. It must be mandatory for apartments in SoCal to start at 1,200 a month.

I have a friend that lives in Turlock (more central Cal, I guess) that says he pays over twice as much as I do for an equal sized house.

$858 a month. It'a a two room dorm, and it's nice, albeit more than a bit messy at times.

Some little piece of shit apartment I looked at in Long Beach with my friends last night was damn near 1800 a month. Yet, a decent house to rent just 6 miles away is $850 a month.

I pay $420 a month for a room plus all utilities/internet (share is about $50-60 a month for everything) in a five bedroom late 1800s house with a total of six people in it. My room's the only one with carpet and the only one on the second floor with a window A/C unit, massively important in the summer. It's also the only corner room in the house of any kind so that's pretty cool. The neighborhood is considered the ghetto by people who have never lived in an urban center and not really that bad by people who have or live in worse parts of town. It's a 25-30 minute walk to work on the lower end of the peninsula, but shorter to go to friends' apartments, bars, the college dorms, and just about everything else. There's also a pizzeria right on the corner of my block and several corner stores and a Piggly Wiggly within a five minute walk. The grocery store is also the location of the bus stop I'd hit up to get to work if I went that route. It's pretty sweet except for the roommates, but this is just about the objective facts of where I live, so yeah.

EDIT: Oh yeah! I live next door to the Christ Gospel Church of Charleston. No idea what denomination it is, but every service sounds like a fuckin' party. I've never ventured over there but I might have to one day. You can hear the drums from my room on Wednesdays and Sundays.

My parents pay 2100 a month for rent. I don't contribute, because really, if they can afford that big ass shit, I don't need to help them. They need my help with some stuff, so they won't be kicking me out any time soon. They kinda owe me because I had to quit a really good job for them. Shit wasn't by choice, because given that I don't have a ride, given that my workplace was 6-7 miles away, given that buses don't go up there, you know, I didn't have options. It was either quit and be on their good side or be made to quit and argue about it. I made my decision. Before too long, I need to get out of here, because it's beginning to wear on me. I really ain't too fuckin' happy with the direction my life is headed.

It's a four room place. Real nice. Oven's broke.

400 for rent including water, it's about 500 over all for Internet, gas, and electric.

I have a three bedroom, two bath home. I am currently living alone while Mrs. Tremendous finishes up her Master's degree. My mortgage payment is about $1,500 monthly, but that covers insurance and taxes as well.

Are property taxes as bad as people say they are here in Oregon, Cheech?

my landlord could easily get $1000 for my place, but he cut me a deal because i pay in cash (as opposed to housing paying for it)

Yes, they are. Granted, this is the first place that I've ever owned a home, but my taxes are about equal to what my parents pay in California despite their home being worth about twice as much as mine.

I pay $1200 for my room in a tenth floor 3BR/3BA next to a metro station. It's gorgeous and huge, about 2200 square feet. High ceilings, wood floors, big rooms, and various accoutrements that give it a bit of a charming porno feel now and then (a hilarious fireplace that works on a light switch, an oversized tub with brass fittings and mirrors all around it, etc.). I could definitely save a good chunk of money living elsewhere, but between the convenience and how much time I spend at home by myself or having people over, it's worth it. We even have plants and shit inside; I almost feel like an actual adult when I'm here. My roommates and I would totally buy the place if the landlords would sell.

$1333/mo, 641 sq ft, one bedroom, one bathroom, washer/dryer, fireplace that never gets used, and shared garage parking. Oh the joys of living in the Bay Area but I'm also less than a mile from my job so I do save a ton on gas and I usually come home for lunch.

I'm not paying for shit right now, but the rent in my previous apartments was generally somewhere in the $600-$650 area. And that's the whole thing, so I was only paying $300 or so for my half of it. Utilities usually weren't much, I can feed myself for less than $40 a week, and I haven't so much as sat in the driver's seat of a vehicle in five years, so I never had to worry about paying for any of that shit. But then a woman wanted me to improve my life, made me start living beyond my means, forced me into debt, and shit got all fucked up.

My apartment is $650/month, and it is a hell of a deal. I have lived here for 6 years in May, and haven't renewed a lease for the past 4 1/2 years. My girlfriend pays half of the rent, but me and my old roommates used to split it three ways. It's a 2,500 square foot, 3 BR, 1 BA throwback of an aprtment with arched doorways in many of the common areas of the apartment. The apartment is very nice with tons of storage and lots of space in every room. I don't have a porch, but there are several balcony-like areas where the building used to have access to these areas. One in particular has easy enough access from a living room window, and I assembled a four burner gas grill out there. I step out the window and cook out often. I do miss having a porch and a yard, though.

We are looking to buy a house soon, but things keep getting in our way. For the mean time, I am more than happy in this place.
