Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 26, 2002 So...I've never seen WrestleWar 89. I've heard how great the Flair vs. Steamboat match was...but I've never seen it. So I go to Best Buy and look at the HHH dvd...and on the back it says it includes Flair vs. Steamboat from WrestleWar 89. SUPER! I hate HHH but I drop the 20 bucks on the disc just for the match. So I put it in and the first thing I think is...hey...those people in the crowd don't look Japanese. The thing pops up that says WrestleWar 5/7/89. And I thought...wait a minute... Then the thisng popped up to inform me that they were in Tennesee... AND ITS NOT WRESTLEWAR 89! It's Music City Showdown. I've seen Music City Showdown...I like Music City Showdown. BUT I WANTED WHAT THEY ADVERTISED!!!! Questions I need answered: 1. Is it that HHH doesn't even know what his "favorite match" is? 2. Is the WWE that poor at fact checking before they release the dvd? 3. Who in the hell do you think grabbed Music City Showdown when HHH said his favorite match was WrestleWar? 4. Will Best Buy give me my money back if I tell them that the reason I bought the dvd was completely misrepresented? OR 5. Did HHH just do this to piss me off? Guest caboose Report post Posted June 26, 2002 Admit it, you brought the DVD cos you like Triple H! (j/k) That sounds like a bit of a bum deal. But can you return it for that reason?
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 26, 2002 Um, the Wrestlewar match WAS in Nashville. They might've just changed the name of the event for some stupid reason.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 26, 2002 I think WrestleWar 89's subtitle actually was "Music City Showdown." The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced I'm right, because I remember renting WrestleWar '89 from the old Video Mania rental place (alas, the place closed, leaving me with only a few WWF and WCW events from 1999 {WWF} and 2000 {WCW} to choose from...making Laz one sad smark), and the cover had Sting and somebody else (I forget who) on it, with a banjo that had spikes coming out of it...and under the heading "WrestleWar '89" was "MUSIC CITY SHOWDOWN." Guest Incandenza Report post Posted June 27, 2002 In additon to Flair-Steamboat, that DVD has the Royal Rumble street fight with Cactus Jack from 2000 (which I've seen before, but don't have). If the rest of the matches are from his 2000-2001 workrate run, I'll buy that fucking thing.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted June 27, 2002 Sorry bps, the last posts had it right. In the Steamboat/Flair series, WrestleWar's sub title was Music City Showdown. Their 2/3 falls was on Clash of Champions: Ragin Cagin. The first match between them where Steamboat won the title was some event that I can't remember right now. Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted June 27, 2002 The first match between them where Steamboat won the title was some event that I can't remember right now. That was "Chi Town Rumble", which Im pretty sure was the Feb PPV for that year.

Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted June 27, 2002 Yeah, care to tell us what else is on there? For Cactus/Trips, and Flair/Steamboat alone the thing sounds like a must-have. Shit, if someone put together a DVD of just Pay Per View matches involving HHH from 2000-2001, I would buy the fucking thing right away. Maybe that would set a lot of the HHHaters straight, because it's one thing to bash his current shittiness, but everyone needs to acknowledge how much Trips FUCKING RULED in his heyday. HHH owned so much back then.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted June 27, 2002 but everyone needs to acknowledge how much Trips FUCKING RULED in his heyday. HHH owned so much back then. Trips ruled the planet in the ring circa 2000-2001, but then, like now, I always found his mic work boring. But the guy had such a great string of awesome matches during that time, I was able to overlook that--and his backstage politics. Too bad he sucks so much now. Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted June 27, 2002 Damn... Flair/Steamboat, Cactus/HHH? Throw in Jericho/HHH from Fully Loaded 2000 and maybe the Quad Tear tag match and I'd know I'd buy the damn thing. Hell, I'm practically going to anyway...
Guest Snappy Nappy Dugout Report post Posted June 27, 2002 For any of you guys wanna see what the DVD Is like, here's the review from a other site: Hey there people. Just figured I'd chime in quickly with a review of the new HHH DVD that came out yesterday. I've been a fan of "The Game" since back in his WCW days so of course this was a must get DVD for me. I mean hell, the WWF...oops, sorry I meant WWE...have only put out one other Triple H video and that was a mixture of him and Chyna back around when Triple H first turned heel and aligned himself with the corporation up until his first WWE Championship win I believe. Anyways, here's my review: The DVD starts off with numerous comments by fellow superstars like The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Ooops, how did he get in there! We move onto Triple H's early career which is pretty much wrapped up in a very quick segment which showcases some old WCW footage of HHH as Terra Ryzing which is funny in itself cause back then, HHH had some major Flair hair. They only quickly show a clip of when HHH was under the guidance of William Regal and then they skip over to the WWE career. Now, something that pisses me off royally is that they basically skip over almost all of Hunter's early WWE career and even his DX days. Hell, they don't even show his first WWE Championship win after Summerslam 1999 over Mankind, they skip right into the whole Stephanie/Test wedding which led to the Armeggedon match between Triple H & Vince where Stephanie turned on daddy dearest and started the McMahon/Helmsley era. They launch into Triple H's battles with Mick Foley, showing the events leading up to their Royal Rumble 2000 street fight classic and the WWE even brings back in Mick Foley to comment on that match and HHH. They only show like one shot of their Hell in a Cell match, as well as the WM 2000 fatal 4 way and only very briefly touch on the whole Iron Man Match between him and the Rock. From there, I believe they show some of HHH's comedic side which basically consisted of those weird "Have a bad day" video sketches with the fake Mankind and some of his taunting of Kurt Angle. No DX Nation parody, no DX Corporation parody, no nothing. Grrrrr...... We move into Summerslam 2000 and showcase the whole Angle/Stephanie romance and how that came about. They show the beginning of the match from Summerslam where HHH tried to pedigree Angle through the spanish announce table but it gave way and Angle was out. They showed some of the Rock/HHH parts from that match and when Angle came back in with HHH giving praise to Angle for coming back and finishing the rest of the match since we was pretty much out of it at that point. We then move into Wrestlemania 17 with his match against the Undertaker which in my opinion is probably the best match he ever had with Taker so far. Taker says HHH has his respect after that match. Then of course, they TOTALLY skip the entire "Two Man Power Trip" saga, not even bothering to show HHH's winning of the IC Championship or his mini-fued over the belt with Jeff Hardy & Kane. Also, they never show Austin & HHH winning the tag titles. Instead, they move into the HHH/Austin vs. Benoit/Jericho match where HHH hurt his leg. We then move into the surgery, recovery and training to get his leg back to full strength. Now, at this point I'm kinda pissed off cause the one thing I was dreading was that they were going to skip over most of his early career and just focus on his injury, his comeback up until now and that's exactly what they did. They show his return at MSG though HHH does discuss the whole Vengance disaster where the WWE promoted the shit out of that PPV as the one where HHH returns and he didn't. We fastforward to the Rumble, showing his battles with Austin during it and with Angle at the end with The Game clotheslining Angle over the top rope to win. We then move into the Stephanie saga including most of the stupid pregnacy angle, the wedding vows renewal disaster and then into his fued with Chris Jericho. They show the WM 18 match in parts with The Game winning, then his match the next night where he put Stephanie out of the WWE and they end on his parting thoughts and at the time that they stopped the taping for this video/DVD, Triple H was just about to face Hogan for the title at Backlash. Overall on the video part, it was all right but kinda disappointing because they skipped over so many important parts. They didn't really go into HHH's early WWE career, didn't show his KOTR victory, didn't show his first WWE Championship win or almost nothing of his DX days or anything with the Two Man Power Trip. They just basically went from Foley to Angle to Taker to his injury to now. Now, onto the extras that came with the DVD: Royal Rumble 2000 - Alternate commentary by Triple H and the Coach: The RR 2000 street fight with Cactus Jack was probably one of the best matches ever in Triple H's career so of course I love going back over it and watching the entire thing. The HHH/Coach commentary was good, HHH had some interesting insights into his match and I do have to say that Coach was much better than Michael Cole would have been. There is a video version but basically it's the same commentary, only you can see Coach and Triple H sitting in the Stamford studios watching the match. Mad TV never-aired sketch: Haven't watched it. I probably will get around to it but I hate Mad TV. It's just a lame ripoff of SNL Triple H's favorite match: Wrestle War 1989 - "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat: Oh yeah baby. I've only gotten about 13 minutes into this bad boy but so far it's been good techincal mat wrestling that only the Dragon and the Nature Boy can provide! JR does commentary with some other guy. This is back during the NWA times before I turned into WCW I believe. Raw 11.29.99 - Stephanie McMahon & Test's wedding: A classic to watch over and over again. LOL. Federation Debut - 4.29.95 Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Buck Zumhoff. For some reason, this match is in widescreen format. Think of Buck as a fatter, shorter, older, and weirder version of Michael Hayes. HHH has some of his normal offense but actually ends the match with a version of the Diamond Cutter, not the Pedigree. I think the commentary on the match is done by JR and Gorilla Monsoon but I don't recall totally. Overall: Not a bad DVD. I've already discussed what was wrong on the video part. As for the extras, I think they could have done a bit better as well. Not that I'm complaining about getting Flair vs. Steamboat but they could have dumped the Mad TV sketch, and put in some more of HHH's best matches like his Iron Man Match with Rock, his 2 out of 3 falls match with Austin, his ladder match with Rock, etc. Also, that would have been a perfect place to put the DX Nation and Corporation parodies, not to mention their whole "Invasion of WCW" stuff Wait, They don't have the DX Nation and Corporation parodies? No 2 out of 3 falls match? No Last Man Standing Match? A lot of showing of Steph? I'm NOT buying this DVD.

Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted June 27, 2002 This sounds horrible. Hopefully, someone'll just rip the Steamboat/Flair and RR '00 matches and stick them on Kazaa. I'll probably pick it up for those two matches alone, but good grief, why did they skip the Blue Blood gimick, or DX? What's the point of that? Why not show the last Austin feud? This really does urk me. For all he's done in his career, they could have easilly put together one of the best DVD's ever, but instead it's only two of the greatest US matches of all time on an otherwise-lame DVD. Granted, HHH was always quite borring on the microphone ("You Never...saw it...COMING!!!" returns to my memory to deprive me of sleep for the next two weeks) but he was just such a natural heel in the ring that he could dick it up until the fans just wanted him dead. Plus, once he slowly transitioned into babyface, they were able to hide his weaknesses by putting him in segments with Foley and Angle that made him look like a total bad ass. It's a total shame that he ended up the way he is now.

Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 27, 2002 what no HHH vs Warior? this match was begging for DVD immortality!!!! And what about the HHH/Cactus Jack PPV match that is not availible on DVD, I think it was No Mercy or Backlash, it was one of those minor PPVs.
Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted June 27, 2002 And what about the HHH/Cactus Jack PPV match that is not availible on DVD, I think it was No Mercy or Backlash, it was one of those minor PPVs. That would be No Way Out '00 which was the last WWE PPV to be only released in VHS format and yes that is one of those that is the most requested for them to put out onto a disc format Also I could be wrong, but I think it's an extra on the Mick Foley "Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops" DVD BTW like Austin's "WHAT!?" DVD and The Rock's "Just Bring It" DVD I think they wanted to continue the Triple H story that was started with "D-X Uncensored" and "Its Our Time" videos rather than going back and re-doing the whole bloody Triple H history, only now they can show clips of Austin and Triple H in WCW to augment their character's history
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted June 27, 2002 The NWO 2000 HIAC is not on Foley's DVD, but the NWO 2001 Austin/HHH match is on Austin's new DVD. The Royal Rumble 2000 is already out on DVD so i don't understand why HHH didn't out the HIAC on his disc, it only makes sense. Austin's "What?" DVD goes back into his WCW days, HHH's should've as well. It's not like HHH would put WCW over or anything.

Yeah, but unlike Austin, HHH didn't have any memorable matches in WCW. Well actually, I would've liked it if they had included his job to Alex Wright. Between Rumble 2000 and 'Mania X-7, they were in the "Only the Big Five PPVS get released on DVD" mode. It is quite the tragedy that No Way Out '01 didn't get released on DVD, as it was (IMO) the best PPV of '01, barely edging out WM X-7, yet it's the only one not on DVD. Two of the three great matches from that PPV (Austin vs. HHH 2/3 Falls, Angle vs. Rock) have since been placed on other DVD's, though. Still waiting for a DVD with the Jericho vs. Benoit vs. Eddie vs. X-Pac match. I agree that the Cactus/HHH Hell in a Cell from No Way Out '00 should be on DVD somewhere though. Maybe a "Foley vs. HHH" comp DVD, with their '97 feud (Notable for the WWF Debut of Cactus Jack during the denouement of the feud), '99 mini-feud, and '00 Feud of the Year?
