'90s Song Tournament

Recommended Posts

So here we go: I've compiled a list of 128 songs using sources including but not limited to your nominations and have bracketed them into four regions. I obviously wasn't able to get everything that was mentioned or even everything that I wanted into the tournament, but I think it's a pretty good group of songs. Make sure that it's obvious which song you're voting for, only posts that include votes in each matchup will be counted, and it'd be nice to see explanations for why you're voting the way that you are. This round will probably last until Thursday or so.

Veruca Salt- "Seether"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Whatta Man" - Salt n Pepa were fun for what they were. I had never heard that Veruca Salt song before today.

Backstreet Boys- "I Want It That Way"

Beck- "Loser" - BSB were the bane of my existence in high school.

Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait"

Hanson- "Mmmbop"

The Breeders- "Cannonball" - Sorry, Inc, Hanson is awful.

Chris Isaak- "Wicked Game"

Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice" - Fun video for Isaak, but Snoop is the easy choice.

Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul"

Kris Kross- "Jump" - Today, I prefer the Jewel song. This is a pure nostalgia pick.

Eve 6- "Inside Out"

Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart" - Ooh, I forgot all about this song. I'm going to go listen to it now!

Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery"

Jamiroquai- "Virtual Insanity" - Don't care for either. Jamiroquai had a neat video.

Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate" - TSMers! Mount up!

Ricky Martin- "Livin La Vida Loca"

Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me"

Notorious B.I.G. (feat. Puff Daddy and Mace)- "Mo Money Mo Problems" - Fun song. Those plastic shiny suits are the 90s!

Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle"

Boyz II Men- "End Of The Road"

'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart"

No Doubt- "Spiderwebs"

No Doubt- "Don't Speak" - I sort of liked this song ten years ago.

Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know" - Dave Coulier is a bad ass mofo.

Alanis Morissette- "Ironic"

Green Day- "Basket Case"

Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" - Less offensive.

Oasis- "Wonderwall"

Oasis- "Champagne Supernova" - Like both of these. It was a tough call.

R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion" - Less whiny that its competitor.

R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts"

Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping"

Meredith Brooks- "Bitch" - Oh god, Chumbawumba was the worst.

Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway"

Bush- "Glycerine" - That Cochrane song gives me nightmares.

Toad the Wet Sprocket- "All I Want"

Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life" - Both garbage.

Black Crowes- "Jealous Again"

Blind Melon- "No Rain" - Finally, two good songs and they are matched up against one another? Bee suit for the win.

Aerosmith- "Cryin'" - Terrible Aerosmith; this is a vote against all things TLC.

TLC- "Waterfalls"

En Vogue- "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)"

Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun" - I wish Cornell would go back to making good music.

MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This"

Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby" - Ice's hook was better.

Skee-Lo- "I Wish" - I wish there were better songs to choose from.

Spacehog- "In The Meantime"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Shoop"

Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P." - My sister played "Shoop" until my head hurt.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- "Summertime"

The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen" - This song came out my freshmen year. Oh, awkward teenage years.

Britney Spears- "...Baby One More Time"

2Pac- "California Love" - Great, great song. If this doesn't win, I lose faith in humanity.

Spice Girls- "Wannabe"

The Fugees- "Killing Me Softly With His Song" - Another great song. Spice Girls are trash.

Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang" - Ok, "California Love" has some competition.

Bryan Adams- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"

Barenaked Ladies- "One Week"

The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony" - Ripped off the Stones perfectly.

Better Than Ezra- "Good"

Beastie Boys- "Sabotage" - Great song, even better video.

The Cardigans- "Lovefool"

Spin Doctors- "Two Princes" - Couldn't care less.

Tracy Chapman- "Give Me One Reason" - Eh...

Offspring- "Self Esteem"

Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight"

Soul Asylum- "Runaway Train" - This was hokey, but I admired what they went for.

Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis"

Semisonic- "Closing Time" - I'm getting bored even thinking of these songs.

Collective Soul- "Shine"

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge" - Now this was a great song. One of the few times I liked the Peppers.

Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones"

Radiohead- "Creep" - Counting Crows are annoying.

Outkast- "Rosa Parks" - Easy winner, but still one of the worst songs from Aquemeni.

Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump"

Cracker- "Low"

Pearl Jam- "Evenflow" - This I can get nostalgic for.

Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do" - This too!

New Radicals- "You Get What You Give"

Pras (ft. Maya & ODB)- "Ghetto Superstar" - Remember when OBD went through his hitmaking phase? Yep, the "it was only gonorrhea" guy was once a megastar.

Joan Osborne- "One Of Us"

Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U" - Hated this song as a kid. Why? It's unbelievably good and O'Connor was sort of doable.

Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars"

The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself" - I Touch Myself when I read Kinetic's posts.

Nada Surf- "Popular"

Marcy Playground- "Sex and Candy"

Faith No More- "Epic" - The fish flop is burned into my retinas.

Extreme- "More Than Words"

Guns N Roses- "November Rain" - Slash playing guitar next to a church in the middle of the desert... how could anyone hate this band?

Arrested Development- "Tennessee" - Whatever happened to this band? Good stuff.

Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)"

Everclear- "Santa Monica"

Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You" - Sorry, Czech, they just aren't that listenable. But, hell, Everclear?

Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta" - Slightly less offensive than Ben Folds.

Ben Folds Five- "Brick"

Fastball- "The Way"

Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains" - Whatevs.

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy"

Juvenile- "Back That Azz Up" - How did Lil Wayne end us as the star of that whole Cash Money thing?

Foo Fighters- "Everlong"

4 Non Blondes- "What's Up" - Thank god, I'm done.

Wow, I hate at least 110 of these songs. No wonder I was struggling to come up with nominations for this tournament: I really hate 90s music.

Wow Cheech The Grouch reappears. There are probably 110 songs I like on this list! I would guess that he didn't come of age in the '90s but he mentioned watching WrestleMania XV live while he was in high school in one of the roundtable so that's not the case. I'm guessing he just listened to BUTT rock in high school as I did.

I was grouchy! I don't like any of these songs.

Truthfully, I had a fairly narrow musical focus in high school. I was mostly listening to rap at the time because I was hanging out with black kids and guys who wished they were black. Like I said in the nominations thread, I'm just not nostalgic for this stuff yet. It all feels really dated. Maybe in ten years I'll come around.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, where are all the good 90s rap songs? "C.R.E.A.M.", "I Get Around", "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down", "Juicy", "Shook Ones", "NY State of Mind", "T.R.O.Y", "Tha Crossroads", "I Used to Love H.E.R.", "Still Not A Player", "Ruff Ryders Anthem", etc. The list above is all middle-of-the-dial FM bullshit and peculiar one-off hits from bands that faded into oblivion. Hip hop more or less dominated the latter half of that decade and it's severely underrepresented as a genre.

EDIT #2: Now that I am putting more and more thought into this, nothing from Alice In Chains or Metallica? What about Rage Against the Machine? NIN? Marilyn Manson? Maybe I'm being overly analytical and harsh here, but I grew up in the 90s just like the rest of you and I don't remember anyone listening to half of the stuff listed above. Yes, those were all radio hits back then, but is anyone really throwing them on a list of their favorite songs?

This tournament went from "fun board activity" to "Kinetic vanity project" real quick, didn't it? Way to leave out Meat Loaf, fuckbucket. "Best Poster" my BUTT more like "Best Loster" except take out the "t" that makes you a LOSER.

Toad the Wet Bracket

Veruca Salt- "Seether"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Whatta Man"

I saw them open for Bush in Landover, Maryland. They were a sort of cheesecake-y alternative to the more serious-minded riot grrrrrr...ls that were prevalent in those days. Still like this song.

Backstreet Boys- "I Want It That Way"

Beck- "Loser"

Kind of an iffy Beck song against the only particularly good Backstreet Boys song. A no-brainer.

Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait"

Montell Jordan- "This Is How We Do It"

It wasn't the theme song to Dawson's Creek, but it'll do.

Everything But The Girl- "Missing"

Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris"

Sort of by default. I saw the Goo Goo Dolls for free in a driving rainstorm inside of a dormant volcano in Italy. That they were good sports about playing in the shitty conditions doesn't make their music any better.

Hanson- "Mmmbop"

The Breeders- "Cannonball"

Straight from the Buzz Bin.

Chris Isaak- "Wicked Game"

Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice"

I so very much wanted to buy Doggystyle back in '93/'94, but was too embarrassed to do so. Who know how my life might have turned out differently had I just gone for it and not bought an Alice In Chains album instead. A girlfriend bought me a copy of the Snoop album about ten years later. It's good.

Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul"

Kris Kross- "Jump"

A surprisingly fun song to listen to. Check that Another Bad Creation diss. Ice cold. I wore my clothes backwards a few times. So did some of you, I'm sure of it.

Eve 6- "Inside Out"

Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart"

I saw Eve 6 at an outdoor festival in downtown Asheville about five years after their expiration date. They were terrible. Deee-Lite has never let me down.

Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery"

Jamiroquai- "Virtual Insanity"

A fun song, a fun video, a fun hat.

Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate"

Ricky Martin- "Livin La Vida Loca"

YES.

Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me"

Notorious B.I.G. (feat. Puff Daddy and Mace)- "Mo Money Mo Problems"

The only B.I.G. song on here, sadly. A case could have been made for a few others, but room needed to be made for Sophie B. Hawkins and Sixpence None The Richer.

Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle"

L.L. Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out"

Sexually suggestive tune introduces the world to the 2nd skankiest MMC alum, right behind Justin Timberlake.

Boyz II Men- "End Of The Road"

Fiona Apple- "Criminal"

A fucking tough call here. "End Of The Road" was mah jay-um back in '92. I had that shit on cassingle and would blast it out of my jukebox all over the neighborhood and youth center. But I would actually listen to "Criminal" now, which I can't really say for the Boyz II Men song.

Toni Braxton- "You Mean The World To Me"

Weezer- "Buddy Holly"

Maybe the best Weezer song, and a great video.

Mariah Carey- "Dreamlover"

U2- "One"

Never really cared for U2, but this song is gorgeous.

'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart"

Jay Z- "Can I Get A..."

whatwhat

Give Me One Region To Stay Here

Nirvana- "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box"

I don't really buy into the supposed historical significance of "Teen Spirit," and "Heart Shaped Box" is the better song.

Blink 182- "Dammit"

Blink 182- "All The Small Things"

Eh, but fuck these guys.

Blur- "Song 2"

Blur- "Girls and Boys"

No contest there.

Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush"

Stone Temple Pilots- "Interstate Love Song"

"Plush" is sort of the height of their Pearl Jam aping. "Interstate Love Song" is pleasant enough.

Smashing Pumpkins- "Today"

Smashing Pumpkins- "1979"

Because of that commercial it's in now.

Seal- "Crazy"

Seal- "Kiss From A Rose"

Fuck Batman.

The Cranberries- "Dreams"

The Cranberries- "Linger"

I like both of these songs. Just like this one a little better.

No Doubt- "Spiderwebs"

No Doubt- "Don't Speak"

I have an anecdote for this song! I'll get to it later.

Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know"

Alanis Morissette- "Ironic"

I always found "Ironic" pretty annoying. This one's about sucking dicks and shit.

Green Day- "Basket Case"

Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)"

Mmm. Really hate the other one.

Oasis- "Wonderwall"

Oasis- "Champagne Supernova"

Great song.

R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion"

R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts"

This song was everywhere for a while. I never met Michael Stipe. No, I did not.

Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping"

Meredith Brooks- "Bitch"

Not a fan of either song, but this one is less irritating.

Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway"

Bush- "Glycerine"

See above.

Toad the Wet Sprocket- "All I Want"

Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life"

Also about sucking dicks and shit.

Black Crowes- "Jealous Again"

Blind Melon- "No Rain"

Didn't ever really like this band, but the bee video is the '90s.

2 Legit Bracket

Aerosmith- "Cryin'"

TLC- "Waterfalls"

For Left Eye.

En Vogue- "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)"

Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun"

Was on MTV every fifteen minutes in the summer of 1994.

MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This"

Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby"

Vanilla Ice did not, to the best of my knowledge, have a Saturday morning cartoon show.

Skee-Lo- "I Wish"

Spacehog- "In The Meantime"

Fond memories of both of these. That Spacehog album was terrible.

Salt-N-Pepa- "Shoop"

Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P."

My niece my witness, I was actually pretty fond of this song when it came out. Took me a decade to figure out all the innuendo.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- "Summertime"

The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen"

No contest. Certainly the highlight of Will Smith's recording career.

Britney Spears- "...Baby One More Time"

2Pac- "California Love"

Yeah, great song.

Spice Girls- "Wannabe"

The Fugees- "Killing Me Softly With His Song"

Great song. Think I still have this album. No idea why. I've never listened to it.

Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang"

Bryan Adams- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"

Fuck yeah. Although the Bryan Adams song gets some points for being used on Arrested Development.

Barenaked Ladies- "One Week"

The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony"

Rather like that Verve song, and "One Week" is my least favorite song ever.

Better Than Ezra- "Good"

Beastie Boys- "Sabotage"

Good song, great video.

The Cardigans- "Lovefool"

Spin Doctors- "Two Princes"

Great song. Terrible album.

Tracy Chapman- "Give Me One Reason"

Offspring- "Self Esteem"

Hrm. For my trailer park roots, I guess.

Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight"

Soul Asylum- "Runaway Train"

Such a weird song, because it's a cynical grab at mainstream fame at probably the only moment when they could have gotten away with not doing something like that. The album it's on is garbage, too.

Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis"

Semisonic- "Closing Time"

Some fond memories of this shitty song. That "Walking In Memphis" guy got shot in the head.

Collective Soul- "Shine"

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge"

Not a fan of RHCP, but this song is pretty good.

Damn! I Wish I Was Your Bracket

Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones"

Radiohead- "Creep"

Bad Radiohead beats peak Counting Crows.

Outkast- "Rosa Parks"

Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump"

Although I admittedly did not know this song until a few years after the fact.

Cracker- "Low"

Pearl Jam- "Evenflow"

Grunge.

Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do"

New Radicals- "You Get What You Give"

Hate that fucking Sheryl Crow song. Talking in music: Don't do it.

Pras (ft. Maya & ODB)- "Ghetto Superstar"

Joan Osborne- "One Of Us"

Yeah.

Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U"

Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars"

Sinead certainly did seem to be doable at the time, although she's far from it today. This song always makes me tear up. And the video...forget about it.

The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself"

Nada Surf- "Popular"

Think so. Kinda liked this one at the time.

Marcy Playground- "Sex and Candy"

Faith No More- "Epic"

The fish. The piano.

Extreme- "More Than Words"

Guns N Roses- "November Rain"

Very long video. Lots of stuff going on. Deep.

Arrested Development- "Tennessee"

Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)"

I couldn't vote against this. Seminal.

Everclear- "Santa Monica"

Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You"

Fuck Everclear. Worst band at the whole chili cookoff.

Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta"

Ben Folds Five- "Brick"

Fun song.

Fastball- "The Way"

Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains"

The girl from Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles was in this band!

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy"

Juvenile- "Back That Azz Up"

My eyes hurt.

Foo Fighters- "Everlong"

4 Non Blondes- "What's Up"

Certainly the best Foo Fighters song.

Toad the Wet Bracket

Veruca Salt- "Seether" I liked Veruca Salt. "Volcano Girls" was better but this will do. Salt-n-Pepa I never cared for.

Salt-N-Pepa- "Whatta Man"

Backstreet Boys- "I Want It That Way" - I'm sorry, but this is an undeniably great song. I remember back in '99 MTV claimed that the release of "Loser" was the most important musical event of the 90s because it ushered in the age of irony. That is straight bullshit and I will not stand for it.

Beck- "Loser"

Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait"

Montell Jordan- "This Is How We Do It" - Fuck Dawson's Creek. The Jordan song was Rocco Rock's solo theme in ECW for one match at least. Montell wins.

Everything But The Girl- "Missing"

Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris" - I really enjoyed "Iris" back in '98. I never liked "Missing." Easy one.

Hanson- "Mmmbop" - For Inc

The Breeders- "Cannonball"

Chris Isaak- "Wicked Game" - I always found the G-funk sound to be rather depressing. "Wicked Game" had that hot video and that can't be ignored.

Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice"

Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul"

Kris Kross- "Jump" - Oh, I could stand to never hear "Who Will Save Your Soul" again.

Eve 6- "Inside Out"

Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart" - Eve 6 were terrible. That Deee-lite song is real annoying but it's better than the alternative.

Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery" - Neither one made much of an impression on me. I think I'd rather listen to the McLachlan tune.

Jamiroquai- "Virtual Insanity"

Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate"

Ricky Martin- "Livin La Vida Loca" - This was tough. "Regulate" is one of the best rap singles of the 90s but you can't deny "Livin' La Vida Loca." It's just so upbeat and full of energy!

Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me"

Notorious B.I.G. (feat. Puff Daddy and Mace)- "Mo Money Mo Problems" - Never liked either. But I do like "I'm Coming Out" a little, so Biggie wins. Mourn ya 'til I join ya, doggy.

Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle" - Both good enough. I picked the first one, well, just because. Sometimes you have to go with your gut.

L.L. Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out"

Boyz II Men- "End Of The Road" - This is where the quality vs nostalgia thing comes up. I definitely liked "Criminal" back in the day, because I thought the video was really hot (little did I know that Ms. Apple was mocking the idea that someone as stick-thin as her could be sexy. I feel sonned). But today, I like "End of the Road" better. I like it much better than its successor, "I'll Make Love To You." So yeah, EOTR wins. It's just better.

Fiona Apple- "Criminal"

Toni Braxton- "You Mean The World To Me"

Weezer- "Buddy Holly" - I didn't even know the Braxton song until now. It sucks.

Mariah Carey- "Dreamlover"

U2- "One" - "One" isn't one of U2's best, but "Dreamlover" ain't one of Mariah's best. Should've picked "Hero." That's a song you can set your watch to.

'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart" - One of these songs doesn't feature Ja Rule. Automatic win.

Jay Z- "Can I Get A..."

Give Me One Region To Stay Here

Nirvana- "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - I didn't care for Nirvana, but "Heart-Shaped Box" is barely listenable. It was the soundtrack for a nice Beulah McGillicutty music video in ECW, but those are all the positive associations I have with it.

Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box"

Blink 182- "Dammit" - I liked "Dammit." The other song can suck it. Easy.

Blink 182- "All The Small Things"

Blur- "Song 2" - "Girls and Boys" is obnoxious. I don't care much for "Song #2" but back in '97 when MTV played anything rock at all it was a momentous event.

Blur- "Girls and Boys"

Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush"

Stone Temple Pilots- "Interstate Love Song" - I never liked "Plush." But I did like "Interstate Love Song." So there.

Smashing Pumpkins- "Today"

Smashing Pumpkins- "1979" - "1979" was a cool song in 5th grade. "Tonight, Tonight" was better but I'll take this.

Seal- "Crazy" - I hated "Kiss From A Rose" back then. I wasn't listening to music when "Crazy" came out, so I never hated it. Win.

Seal- "Kiss From A Rose"

The Cranberries- "Dreams" - The correct answer is "Zombie." But "Dreams" is better than "Linger."

The Cranberries- "Linger"

No Doubt- "Spiderwebs" - "Spiderwebs" is a fun little song. "Don't Speak" was nice and acceptable in '96, but since then I've become something of a hair metal connoisseur and I expect a little more from my ballads.

No Doubt- "Don't Speak"

Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know" - "You Oughta Know" was another fun song. The f-word made it seem very subversive in 5th grade. I've heard "Ironic" too many times.

Alanis Morissette- "Ironic"

Green Day- "Basket Case" - Appropriating the canon doesn't always work. But here it did. Which reminds me, when we have the 2000s thread, nominating "Graduation (Friends Forever)" should be punishable by banning. I'm saying this because I can't help but think Czech will want to nominate it. No you won't, bud.)

Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)"

Oasis- "Wonderwall"

Oasis- "Champagne Supernova" - "Wonderwall" was covered quite badly by Ryan Adams. "Champagne Supernova" has a nice guitar solo.

R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion" - Performed on Boston Public --> Auto win.

R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts"

Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping"

Meredith Brooks- "Bitch" - Eh, don't care for either. Meredith was more attractive than the girl from Chumbawumba. What a terrible name.

Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway"

Bush- "Glycerine" - Sorry, Inc. "Glycerine" was a favorite of mine in 5th grade. I liked "Machinehead" better, but all the singles from that album were good.

Toad the Wet Sprocket- "All I Want" - I never liked either, but "Semi-Charmed Life" is just so...BLAH. It wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't heard it a thousand times, but I have and so it is.

Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life"

Black Crowes- "Jealous Again" - I couldn't stand "No Rain." Stupid bee girl.

Blind Melon- "No Rain"

2 Legit Bracket

Aerosmith- "Cryin'" - Aerosmith was my favorite band when I was 12, so I have to give them a vote. But "Cryin'" is the worst of the Silverstone Trilogy.

TLC- "Waterfalls"

En Vogue- "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" - Soundgarden wasn't so great. "Pretty Noose" was good, but I don't care for anything else by them. En Vogue, a winner is you.

Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun"

MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This"

Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby" - When Hammer remakes his greatest hit as a nu-metal anthem, then it will be close. As it is, V. Ice takes it strong.

Skee-Lo- "I Wish" - I just heard that Spacehog song now. I'm glad I missed it the first time.

Spacehog- "In The Meantime"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Shoop"

Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P." - Again with the Salt-n-Pepa! Such a boring act. "O.P.P." was fun.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- "Summertime"

The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen" - I bought the Verve Pipe CD for this song. The album was terrible, but I have no regrets.

Britney Spears- "...Baby One More Time" - Britney seemed so cool and down-to-earth back then. I miss those days.

2Pac- "California Love"

Spice Girls- "Wannabe"

The Fugees- "Killing Me Softly With His Song" - Nice, laid back tune this was. "Wannabe" was so silly that I can't in good conscience vote for it.

Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang"

Bryan Adams- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" - As I said, I like great power ballads. And this is one of the best right here. One of the sappiest, wussiest, syrupy ballads of the 90s, which is exactly what you want out of the genre.

Barenaked Ladies- "One Week"

The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony" -

GordonBarenakedLadies.jpg

No further explanation necessary.

Better Than Ezra- "Good"

Beastie Boys- "Sabotage" - "Sabotage" video is a classic. The BTE song is not so "Good." LOLOLOLOL

The Cardigans- "Lovefool"

Spin Doctors- "Two Princes" - We used to listen to this in 3rd grade music class. Spin Doctors would have been a great one-hit wonder if they didn't have another hit which sucked.

Tracy Chapman- "Give Me One Reason"

Offspring- "Self Esteem" - When we do the 80s tournament, I'll nomination "Fast Car." But this song? No. "Self-Esteem" was good.

Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight"

Soul Asylum- "Runaway Train" - Like "Two Princes," a classic from the days of 3rd grade music class.

Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis" - I hate this song, but I bashed "Closing Time" to Czech last night and voting for it would be hypocritical. Also, Cohn is a straight up gangsta who survived getting shot in the head.

Semisonic- "Closing Time"

Collective Soul- "Shine" - I hate "Under the Bridge."

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge"

Damn! I Wish I Was Your Bracket

Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones"

Radiohead- "Creep" - "Round Here" was the good Crows single.

Outkast- "Rosa Parks" - Oh, screw you, "Lump." You'll never get my vote.

Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump"

Cracker- "Low"

Pearl Jam- "Evenflow" - I loved "Evenflow." I hadn't heard the Cracker song until now but it blows and Sandra Bernhard is in the video, which might have been a dealbreaker even if the song was good.

Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do"

New Radicals- "You Get What You Give" - Easy. I couldn't stand "All I Wanna Do" back then, and I still hate it now. I couldn't stand "You Get What You Give" back then, but after a couple of years I came to realize that I did, in fact, like it. So I checked out the album, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too, and it's surprisingly great. Gregg Alexander is an awesomely talented dude, and his lyrical ability reminds me of Steinman in some ways, even though he also made

and HOLY CRAP is it bad.

Pras (ft. Maya & ODB)- "Ghetto Superstar" - Oh, I'll never vote for "yeah yeah god is great yeah yeah god is good."

Joan Osborne- "One Of Us"

Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U" - Good song.

Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars"

The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself" - Featured on My So-Called Life. Winner.

Nada Surf- "Popular"

Marcy Playground- "Sex and Candy"

Faith No More- "Epic" - I love "Epic" but it came out in '89, so it shouldn't even be here. I'd like to vote against it on principle but "Sex and Candy" is SO BAD that I could never do it.

Extreme- "More Than Words"

Guns N Roses- "November Rain" - Greatest power ballad ever. Extreme sucked. Easiest one here.

Arrested Development- "Tennessee"

Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)" - "Stay" is a nice gentle song. Most socially conscious hip-hop is bad and AD was no exception.

Everclear- "Santa Monica"

Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You" - Hey Dan, if I want to not like this song, it is my GOD GIVEN RIGHT AS AN AMERICAN. But Everclear could never get my vote, especially with that fucking song. It only has like two chords! All Everclear songs sound the same, but "Santa Monica" was the worst.

Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta"

Ben Folds Five- "Brick" - I kinda liked "Brick." I never liked "Flagpole Sitta."

Fastball- "The Way"

Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains" - I really liked Garbage, especially this song. My brother really liked "The Way" and I'll never know why.

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy" - "Hey Jealousy" was good. Fine with me.

Juvenile- "Back That Azz Up"

Foo Fighters- "Everlong"

4 Non Blondes- "What's Up" - As much as I hate Linda Perry's annoying voice, I still kinda liked this song. Never cared much for "Everlong" though I liked other FF singles.

This tournament went from "fun board activity" to "Kinetic vanity project" real quick, didn't it? Way to leave out Meat Loaf, fuckbucket. "Best Poster" my BUTT more like "Best Loster" except take out the "t" that makes you a LOSER.

You are WRONG. So, so wrong. I left Meat Loaf, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, etc. out because no one was going to vote for that adult contempo horseshit. It's unfortunate that I couldn't cater to each individual poster's taste in music. Maybe a round of 10,000 next time.

Despite growing up in the 90's I fully expect to not know half of these songs. But let's give it a go.

Veruca Salt- "Seether"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Whatta Man" - I remember this song being all over TV, but what I really remember was them doing it at WMXI. LT IS A MIGHTY GOOD MAN.

Backstreet Boys- "I Want It That Way"

Beck- "Loser" - Not a fan of Loser, but it's going to take worse than that for me to pick a Backstreet Boys song in this tournament.

Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait"

Montell Jordan- "This Is How We Do It" This is how we vote it.

Everything But The Girl- "Missing"

Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris" - Don't think I know either song, and I don't think I've even heard of Everything But The Girl, but their name is stupid so Iris gets the vote.

Hanson- "Mmmbop"

The Breeders- "Cannonball" Never heard of the Breeders or Cannonball, but Mmmbop can suck my ass. My sister was a huge Hanson fan. Ugg.

Chris Isaak- "Wicked Game"

Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice" I remember other channels would air this uncensored (lyrically anyway) but MTV always made me laugh when the chorus became "Rollin' down the street smokin' smokin', sippin' on gin and juice."

Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul"

Kris Kross- "Jump" - Not that I care for Jump, but I forever get to tease my best friend for once owning a Kris Kross album. Plus I've had the 'honor' of owning the dreadful Kris Kross - Make My Video game for the Sega CD. JUMP JUMP.

Eve 6- "Inside Out" - I think I've hated everyother Eve 6 song I've heard, but I really like Inside Out.

Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart"

Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery" Haven't heard it Building a Mystery, but Virtual Insanity did nothing for me so Sarah can have my vote.

Jamiroquai- "Virtual Insanity"

Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate" Good stuff, and Ricky Martin sucks.

Ricky Martin- "Livin La Vida Loca"

Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me" Oh man did I love this song as a teen ager. Yeah that probably makes me a loser, but fuck it I still do.

Notorious B.I.G. (feat. Puff Daddy and Mace)- "Mo Money Mo Problems"

Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle"

L.L. Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out" Genie in a bottle isn't that bad, but I really don't like the end part with her singing quicker and her voice is different. Kills the flow of the song, so L.L. can have my vote.

Boyz II Men- "End Of The Road"

Fiona Apple- "Criminal" This world is bullshit!

Toni Braxton- "You Mean The World To Me"

Weezer- "Buddy Holly" This song has grown on me. Possibly from Beavis & Butthead's treatment of it.

Mariah Carey- "Dreamlover" I was a sucker for Mariah Carey in the 90's. What can I say?

U2- "One"

'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart" Much like the Backstreet Boys it was going to take a lot to get me to vote for N Sync. Can I get A was enough. God I hated that song.

Jay Z- "Can I Get A..."

Nirvana- "Smells Like Teen Spirit" I was never a Nirvana fan, so I picked the one Wierd Al did.

Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box"

Blink 182- "Dammit"

Blink 182- "All The Small Things" I never liked Blink, then I had a college roommate who listened to them all the time and I went from not liking to wishing painful deaths on every member of the band. Damn having to vote for one of their songs.

Blur- "Song 2"

Blur- "Girls and Boys" Don't know blur or their songs, so the less annoying song title takes it.

Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush" - My freshman year of highschool the school motto was STP. Everyone was wondering what the fuck it was and why the motto was Stone Temple Pilots. About a month in we had an assembly and it was revealed to be Spirit, Tradition, Pride. I don't think anybody ever remembered that.

Stone Temple Pilots- "Interstate Love Song"

Smashing Pumpkins- "Today" I'm sure I've heard both of these but don't care enough to figure out what they are. Pretend I flipped a coin.

Smashing Pumpkins- "1979"

Seal- "Crazy" For not being the song played all the time when Batman Forever came out.

Seal- "Kiss From A Rose"

The Cranberries- "Dreams"

The Cranberries- "Linger" Not a big Cranberries fan, hated Zombies, but I LOVED this song.

No Doubt- "Spiderwebs" Didn't care for mid 90's No Doubt, although they were certainly better than new millennium No Doubt. Spiderwebs gets the vote because the guy I was taking drum lessons from used this song to teach me some stuff.

No Doubt- "Don't Speak"

Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know" Because Ironic contains a lot of examples that don't fit the definition of irony. And supposedly You Oughta Know is about Dave Coulier. So it's more interesting than Ironic.

Alanis Morissette- "Ironic"

Green Day- "Basket Case" Hate Green Day.

Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)"

Oasis- "Wonderwall"

Oasis- "Champagne Supernova" What is with this bracket and the bands going against themselves? Oasis is just there to me, so I don't care which song moves on.

R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion" Again R.E.M is just there, and I don't care which of their songs goes on.

R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts"

Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping"

Meredith Brooks- "Bitch" Holy cow were both of these songs over played to hell. Bitch gets my vote for at least giving teenagers an excuse to swear.

Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway" I never liked Bush (the band)

Bush- "Glycerine"

Toad the Wet Sprocket- "All I Want" Don't know what this is, but I don't care for Semi-Charmed Life. Funny story though with Third eye blind. My economics teacher senior year of highschool mentioned that he won a contest to get flown down to California to see them in concert, and then have a private party with the band and some other contest winners. And I think he showed us a picture of himself with the band or something, and this girl in the class was mad and yelled "That's not fair why do you get to meet them? You're not cool!"

Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life"

Black Crowes- "Jealous Again"

Blind Melon- "No Rain" I remember the bubblebee girl more than I remember the song.

Aerosmith- "Cryin'" This is the one where the girl flips off the camera right?

TLC- "Waterfalls"

En Vogue- "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" I really can't explain it but I always hated Black Hole Sun, and I think it was because of the video and not the music. I think it creeped me out as a kid or something.

Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun"

MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This" Fuck Vanilla Ice. I'll vote Hammer every time.

Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby"

Skee-Lo- "I Wish"

Spacehog- "In The Meantime" No idea what this is, but that Skee-Lo song was terrible. I wish I was a little bit talla I wish I was a AHHHHHHHH IT'S IN MY HEAD AGAIN.

Salt-N-Pepa- "Shoop"

Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P." I'm not sure I ever figured out what Shoop meant.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- "Summertime" No idea what The Freshmen is.

The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen"

Britney Spears- "...Baby One More Time" Not the worst and not the best of Spears hits, but I'll listen to it anyday over California Love.

2Pac- "California Love"

Spice Girls- "Wannabe" I hate myself

The Fugees- "Killing Me Softly With His Song"

Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang"

Bryan Adams- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" I REALLY hate myself.

Barenaked Ladies- "One Week" Ok this one was easier.

The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony"

Better Than Ezra- "Good"

Beastie Boys- "Sabotage" Always hated the name "Better Than Ezra" It just bugs me.

The Cardigans- "Lovefool"

Spin Doctors- "Two Princes" Surprisingly tough call as I'm a sucker for both songs. But Lovefool was attached to the awful Decaprio version of Romeo and Juliet so Spin Doctors take it.

Tracy Chapman- "Give Me One Reason"

Offspring- "Self Esteem" Not an Offspring fan, but fuck Tracy Chapman. Yes my hate for her is soley based off of Fast Car, but it's one that will never die.

Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight"

Soul Asylum- "Runaway Train" Eagle-Eye Cherry sucks.

Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis" It always shocks me when I remember this song came out in the 90's. I missed it when it was new, and it just doesn't sound like something that would be a hit during the 90's.

Semisonic- "Closing Time"

Collective Soul- "Shine" Why not

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge"[

Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones" I don't like either.

Radiohead- "Creep"

Outkast- "Rosa Parks"

Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump" Like I'm going to vote for Outkast.

Cracker- "Low"

Pearl Jam- "Evenflow" Sure

Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do"

New Radicals- "You Get What You Give" So are the old Radicals Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, and Saturn?

Pras (ft. Maya & ODB)- "Ghetto Superstar" Ghetto superstar was a weird song to me, as I like the chorus and hated the verses. But it certainly beats One of Us.

Joan Osborne- "One Of Us"

Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U" Does she have more hits if she doesn't rip up that picture of the pope?

Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars"

The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself" I touch myself too.

Nada Surf- "Popular"

Marcy Playground- "Sex and Candy"

Faith No More- "Epic" Sex and Candy kind of creeped me out.

Extreme- "More Than Words"

Guns N Roses- "November Rain" No idea what song this is, but it has to be better than more than words.

Arrested Development- "Tennessee"

Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)" I wanted to band Lisa Loeb so bad.

Everclear- "Santa Monica"

Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You" I only wanna tendercrisp bacon chedder ranch.

Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta"

Ben Folds Five- "Brick" Ben Folds fact: He produced a William Shatner album. Smues fact: I own that album.

Fastball- "The Way"

Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains" Know neither of these, but vaguely remember my wife saying she loved garbage when she was in Junior High.

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy"

Juvenile- "Back That Azz Up" I liked this song at the time. I'd probably hate it today.

Foo Fighters- "Everlong" Oh fuck What's Up. Fuck it right up the ass.

4 Non Blondes- "What's Up"

Toad the Wet Bracket

Veruca Salt- "Seether"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Whatta Man"

I have no idea but I just can't buy chick bands. Saying that Salt-N-Pepa I did like, but I think that was because all their songs were about sex, or at least in my mind. Not that I wanted to have sex with either of Salt-N-Pepa. Seriously. The Veruca Salt band just sound like every other garage band that got a bit of success after the 'death' of Nirvana.

Backstreet Boys- "I Want It That Way"

Beck- "Loser"

Not THE Beck song I would have nominated, but still a good one and the one that most whiney post Nirvana teens will remember listening to in their bedrooms. This one shouldn't be a contest, depending on your taste in music that is, when you have a song that cuts it up and riffs it away against a song that's rather bland and produced with midi tracks.

Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait"

Montell Jordan- "This Is How We Do It"

I had to check both of these songs up as I didn't remember them at all. Are these songs that only made it in the US? Oh fuck its the Dawson's Creek opening credits v a song that sounds like a parody against 'RnB'. Montell only because its not Dawson's Creek tainted.

Everything But The Girl- "Missing"

Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris"

Iris - but only just. I'm tired of how amazing people think this song is, my girlfriend included. Its the kind of song people say they love to try and impress a girl.

Hanson- "Mmmbop"

The Breeders- "Cannonball"

I didn't recognise Cannonball watching the video until that opening bass riff kicked it. Then I was suddenly back in the 90s. So far this is the only song that has taken my back to the 90s. I think this song and 'Fool's Gold' by The Stone Roses are the height of 90s riffary, and looking back I'm totally gutted I forget to nominate a single Stone Roses song. Shit.

Chris Isaak- "Wicked Game"

Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice"

The 2nd Rap song every white kid in the 90's probably heard and thought was cool.

Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul"

Kris Kross- "Jump"

What's with all this Dawson's Creek shit? Seriously, did someone just go through the soundtrack listing and pick 20 songs? I'm sure these songs would have been great, but shitty teen dramas have killed any chance of me enjoying 'easy listening' guitar based music with love lyrics. Besides its fucking KRIS KROSS!

Eve 6- "Inside Out"

Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart"

Eve 6? The name rang a bell, the song didn't, though it had elements of RHCP for some reason. Looking them up I think I saw their logo somewhere sometime. But I never heard the song before today, must be a US only song. Wow I had no idea Groove Is In The Heart was so old. It has really stood the test of time.

Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery"

Jamiroquai- "Virtual Insanity"

JK trumps the obvious Dawson's Creek soundtrack generic track.

Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate"

Ricky Martin- "Livin La Vida Loca"

Probably the first rap song every white child in the early 90's heard on the radio. That and the one about Money.

Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me"

Notorious B.I.G. (feat. Puff Daddy and Mace)- "Mo Money Mo Problems"

Yeah this is the song I was on about 'the one about Money'. I find it hard to choose songs I know are off TV soundtracks, I think Kiss Me was on the Buffy one. I don't have anything against Buffy or Dawson's Creek, but if you appear on their soundtracks its because you're pretty easy generic music and could probably fit into any TV Teen Drama.

Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle"

L.L. Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out"

Aww sorry Christina but... :(

Boyz II Men- "End Of The Road"

Fiona Apple- "Criminal"

First time I've heard the song and I've enjoyed it. Music is really fun and bouncy and I can see where the likes of Josh Stone are getting her ideas from.

Toni Braxton- "You Mean The World To Me"

Weezer- "Buddy Holly"

Sorry Toni, but the feeling isn't mutual. Besides, its BUDDY fucking HOLLY!

Mariah Carey- "Dreamlover"

U2- "One"

Its a bit contrived now and a music cliché but then its U2.

'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart"

Jay Z- "Can I Get A..."

Give Me One Region To Stay Here

Nirvana- "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box"

I hope this doesn't win the overall competition as while Nirvana were a huge part of the 90s and influenced A LOT of bands, I don't think much of that kicked in until several years after Kurt Cobain's death. Smells Like Teen Spirit is a great song, but I think sadly its became the song it was actually taking the piss out of due to its own popularity.

Blink 182- "Dammit"

Blink 182- "All The Small Things"

When you think of Blink you think of All the Small Things and a great summer time being young.

Blur- "Song 2"

Blur- "Girls and Boys"

Probably more true and reflective of what Blur were all about in the early days before Coxon had a say in the musical direction. Love both songs, but Girls and Boys is everything the 90s was about shit loads of clubbing and drugs - not that I ever did any of that.

Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush"

Stone Temple Pilots- "Interstate Love Song"

Smashing Pumpkins- "Today"

Smashing Pumpkins- "1979"

Seal- "Crazy"

Seal- "Kiss From A Rose"

Remember when I heard this - yes because of Batman - I went out and bought a Seal album. The song itself is pretty fucking epic too.

The Cranberries- "Dreams"

The Cranberries- "Linger"

No Doubt- "Spiderwebs"

No Doubt- "Don't Speak"

No Doubt is this song, at least in my head. I remember I borrowed my mates tape and copied it about several dozen times to give to all my other mates so they could listen to it too.

Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know"

Alanis Morissette- "Ironic"

Hate both songs ALL songs by her.

Green Day- "Basket Case"

Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)"

Not a huge Green Day fan but I can tolerate Basket Case as its short.

Oasis- "Wonderwall"

Oasis- "Champagne Supernova"

Ah such a hard choice, but I think I prefer this one as the guitar work is a little rougher and its more rock and roll. Wonderwall I've heard way too much, but it was one of THE hits of the 90s.

R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion"

R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts"

Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping"

Meredith Brooks- "Bitch"

Please don't win.

Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway"

Bush- "Glycerine"

Toad the Wet Sprocket- "All I Want"

Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life"

Black Crowes- "Jealous Again"

Blind Melon- "No Rain"

2 Legit Bracket

Aerosmith- "Cryin'"

TLC- "Waterfalls"

En Vogue- "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)"

Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun"

MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This"

Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby"

Skee-Lo- "I Wish"

Spacehog- "In The Meantime"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Shoop"

Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P."

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- "Summertime"

The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen"

Britney Spears- "...Baby One More Time"

2Pac- "California Love"

Spice Girls- "Wannabe"

The Fugees- "Killing Me Softly With His Song"

Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang"

Bryan Adams- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"

Barenaked Ladies- "One Week"

The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony"

Better Than Ezra- "Good"

Beastie Boys- "Sabotage"

The Cardigans- "Lovefool"

Spin Doctors- "Two Princes"

Tracy Chapman- "Give Me One Reason"

Offspring- "Self Esteem"

Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight"

Soul Asylum- "Runaway Train"

Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis"

Semisonic- "Closing Time"

Collective Soul- "Shine"

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge"

Damn! I Wish I Was Your Bracket

Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones"

Radiohead- "Creep"

Outkast- "Rosa Parks"

Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump"

Cracker- "Low"

Pearl Jam- "Evenflow"

Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do"

New Radicals- "You Get What You Give"

Pras (ft. Maya & ODB)- "Ghetto Superstar"

Joan Osborne- "One Of Us"

Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U"

Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars"

The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself"

Nada Surf- "Popular"

Marcy Playground- "Sex and Candy"

Faith No More- "Epic"

Extreme- "More Than Words"

Guns N Roses- "November Rain"

Arrested Development- "Tennessee"

Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)"

Everclear- "Santa Monica"

Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You"

Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta"

Ben Folds Five- "Brick"

Fastball- "The Way"

Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains"

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy"

Juvenile- "Back That Azz Up"

Foo Fighters- "Everlong"

4 Non Blondes- "What's Up"

EDIT #2: Now that I am putting more and more thought into this, nothing from Alice In Chains or Metallica? What about Rage Against the Machine? NIN? Marilyn Manson? Maybe I'm being overly analytical and harsh here, but I grew up in the 90s just like the rest of you and I don't remember anyone listening to half of the stuff listed above. Yes, those were all radio hits back then, but is anyone really throwing them on a list of their favorite songs?

Have to agree with this, there are a tone of songs in there I've never heard of before or were only hits in America. Alice In Chains, Metallica (Hello Black Album and success), RATM, NIN, MANSON could have been in there instead of the 13 Dawson's Creek soundtrack selections which all sound the same anyway. Be interesting to look back at the nominations to see which ones were actually selected and which songs were placed into the tree out of no where.

I appreciate your concern, Cheech. I really really really really really do. But in compiling this list, I'm put in the uncomfortable position of being all things to all people, y'know? If I put in all of these fairly well known but not mainstream popular indie rock songs, I'm an elitist. BUTT is all over my ass. If I represent a lot of fringey hip hop stuff, you and Byron the Bulb are happy but that shit is losing to Hootie and the Blowfish by 15 votes. This British guy is on a completely different plane. Who knows what the British listened to in the 1990s? Not a fucking clue. The basic point is that I had 128 slots to represent every fucking song that was released in an entire ten year period, so of course some of your favorite songs are going to be left out. Get a fucking clue, all of you. Jesus Christ, why did I ever volunteer for this. What a fucking thankless exercise. I hope you all die of a painful communicable disease. See you next round.

And there in lies the problem. I mean obviously thanks for doing this, but it appears that you've totally disregarding people's nominations as you haven't heard them. Well, I haven't heard of half of the stuff on this list as its all US release only stuff. I think what you should have done is had 4 genres, then had a 4 genre battle in the first few rounds with the winner going into the last rounds to battle it.

Rock/Metal

Rap/RnB

Pop

Indie

That way you've covered all bases fairly, you can crown a winner for each genre in the 90s and so on.

All over your ass? I just said you didn't pick the song I wanted! I'm not taking this seriously, even though I did use the word "fuckbucket." I've always gotten along with you, K-Tic, and I don't want to start a war here. But(t), from the puzzling selection of songs to the claim that the reasoning behind the picks was "not limited to your nominations," I got the feeling that you were going your own way on this. Apparently that's not the case, even though I don't know exactly how you came up with all these songs. And since you're the dude in charge of this, you can do whatever you want with it.

It may have been a better idea to actually set some ground rules for nominations instead of just "Name all the songs you want, I'm going to start with 20" and then everyone follows with twenty of their own, or 100 if you're Twisted Intestine. You should have done it the way it was done in the best/worst poster tournaments, where people were told to choose a set number of nominations and those that were nominated were tabulated and seeded accordingly. It also may have been a good idea to allow more than one day of nominations, but whatever, we got a pretty good field out of it.

Brody, get your camera ready again.

I feel that every song in my tournament is a potential winner. You don't think that "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" could win this competition? I say fuck you. You don't know the first thing about music.

Before I do this, know that nostagia is the biggest factor for me in determining my choices.

Toad the Wet Bracket

Veruca Salt- "Seether"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Whatta Man"

Just for the sheer nostalgia factor. Plus they performed it at Wrestlemania.

Backstreet Boys- "I Want It That Way"

Beck- "Loser"

I don't mind "Loser" but "I Want it That Way" just screams 6th grade for me.

Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait"

Montell Jordan- "This Is How We Do It"

It was in The Nutty Professor. It can't lose.

Everything But The Girl- "Missing"

Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris"

A staple of 90's alternative radio. Although now I fucking hate the song.

Hanson- "Mmmbop"

The Breeders- "Cannonball"

No brainer.

Chris Isaak- "Wicked Game"

Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice"

Had "Doggystyle" on cassett. I was clueless as to what he was talking about, but I was in 3rd grade and wanted to look cool.

Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul"

Kris Kross- "Jump"

Never wore my jeans backwards, but this song gets the nod.

Eve 6- "Inside Out"

Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart"

I had their debut album and this song is pretty much the only reason why. I honestly tried enjoying some of the other songs on the CD, but it wasn't happening.

Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery"

Jamiroquai- "Virtual Insanity"

Kind of a hard choice considering neither song sparks childhood memories, but "I Will Remember You" does, so therefore, Sarah wins.

Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate"

Ricky Martin- "Livin La Vida Loca"

The first time I heard this, I actually didn't care for it. Nate Dogg's voice grew on me.

Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me"

Notorious B.I.G. (feat. Puff Daddy and Mace)- "Mo Money Mo Problems"

Just based on memories of hearing it on my mom's adult contemporary music stations.

Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle"

L.L. Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out"

Tough choice. I'll go with "Mama Said Knock You Out" because it was used on Keenan and Kel as Kel's entrance music for the bagging competition.

Boyz II Men- "End Of The Road"

Fiona Apple- "Criminal"

Easy choice.

Toni Braxton- "You Mean The World To Me"

Weezer- "Buddy Holly"

Easy. It's hard to believe The Blue Album came out when I was in Kindergarten.

Mariah Carey- "Dreamlover"

U2- "One"

Not U2's biggest fan, but this is a great song.

'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart"

Jay Z- "Can I Get A..."

I really hate that these two songs are matched up together but Ja Rule and Lil Kim were in the later, so it loses points.

Give Me One Region To Stay Here

Nirvana- "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box"

Both are good songs. I mean Diamond Dallas Page did use an altered instrumental version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" but Heart Shaped Box is the better song in my opinion.

Blink 182- "Dammit"

Blink 182- "All The Small Things"

When "Enema of the State" came out, I traded a classmate of mine a Mewtwo Pokemon card for the CD. I wasn't too disappointed and I don't think these guys are as insufferable as many people do.

Blur- "Song 2"

Blur- "Girls and Boys"

I think both songs are pretty stupid, but "Song 2" gets the nod for obvious reasons.

Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush"

Stone Temple Pilots- "Interstate Love Song"

Both songs are decent at best, to me anyway. "Plush" gets the nod because one of my buddies was obsessed with grunge and post grunge shit, and this was alway playing when I went over to his place.

Smashing Pumpkins- "Today"

Smashing Pumpkins- "1979"

Great song, music video makes no sense.

Seal- "Crazy"

Seal- "Kiss From A Rose"

Other than Seal's cover of "Fly like an Eagle" which in retrospect makes Space Jam even more corny, I'm not very familar with his other songs. I'll choose "Crazy" for totally arbitrary reasons.

The Cranberries- "Dreams"

The Cranberries- "Linger"

I like both of these songs, but "Linger" brings back more memories.

No Doubt- "Spiderwebs"

No Doubt- "Don't Speak"

This was the first music video I ever saw. By virtue of that title, "Don't Speak" has to win.

Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know"

Alanis Morissette- "Ironic"

Whenever I picture Alanis Morissette, I picture domestic violence and a very pissed off woman filled with angst and hatred towards men. "You Oughta Know" is the angrier female anthem.

Green Day- "Basket Case"

Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)"

"Good Riddance" got very annoying by the time every single High School graduation had that or Vitamin C's "Graduation (Friends Forever)" for their song. Dookie was a great album and this was one of my favorite songs.

Oasis- "Wonderwall"

Oasis- "Champagne Supernova"

"Champagne Supernova" is easily in my top 5 90's songs.

R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion"

R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts"

I like both songs, but "Everybody Hurts" is just so depressing and drenched with Michael Stipe's melancholy.

Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping"

Meredith Brooks- "Bitch"

Both songs irritated the fuck out of me. "Bitch" gets the nod because it gave kids an excuse to swear.

Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway"

Bush- "Glycerine"

I convinced my mom to order me the "Living in the 90's" cassettes off of TV. This song was on it, so it wins by default.

Toad the Wet Sprocket- "All I Want"

Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life"

A staple of 90's music. If you're around my age and grew up in the 90's, then there isn't any way you can't vote for this song.

Black Crowes- "Jealous Again"

Blind Melon- "No Rain"

Their only song that I know was a pretty good one.

2 Legit Bracket

Aerosmith- "Cryin'"

TLC- "Waterfalls"

Great song. Another staple of 90's radio.

En Vogue- "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)"

Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun"

I really don't like either song to be honest, but "Black Hole Sun" is one of those songs I can't bring myself to even remotely like.

MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This"

Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby"

Vanilla Ice was in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II, but not this song. Both songs sampled other, better songs, but at least MC Hammer could dance.

Skee-Lo- "I Wish"

Spacehog- "In The Meantime"

One of those awesomely bad songs.

Salt-N-Pepa- "Shoop"

Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P."

Yeah you know me.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- "Summertime"

The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen"

Not really a contest. I never understood the meaning behind "The Freshmen" as a kid. I didn't know what abortion was.

Britney Spears- "...Baby One More Time"

2Pac- "California Love"

Hard choice. I didn't actually enjoy "California Love" until I was older and "Baby One More Time" reminds me of those confusing times when girls were starting to become less gross, and more appealing.

Spice Girls- "Wannabe"

The Fugees- "Killing Me Softly With His Song"

I impressed my friend's older sister and her friends by naming this song when it came on the radio. I was like 9 at the time, they were 16-17.

Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang"

Bryan Adams- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"

Both songs are good choices, but Bryan Adams was always playing on my mom's adult contemporary radio stations. Reminds me of grocery shopping, then the toy store afterwards

Barenaked Ladies- "One Week"

The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony"

At one point, I successfully sang "One Week" without screwing up any of the lyrics. I was so proud of myself. My mom thought I was seizing or something.

Better Than Ezra- "Good"

Beastie Boys- "Sabotage"

Music video was fucking awesome. For Christmas one year, I got a Talkboy, which was that recorder thing from "Home Alone" I put it next to the radio when this song came on and it enjoyed significant playtime until I recorded a scene from "Dumb and Dumber" over it.

The Cardigans- "Lovefool"

Spin Doctors- "Two Princes"

Easy choice.

Tracy Chapman- "Give Me One Reason"

Offspring- "Self Esteem"

Another arbitrary choice.

Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight"

Soul Asylum- "Runaway Train"

Their only song ever. Well, maybe not, but I can't list another one.

Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis"

Semisonic- "Closing Time"

Nostalgia wins again.

Collective Soul- "Shine"

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge"

Both songs are good. Not my favorite Chili Peppers song, but a good one nonetheless.

Damn! I Wish I Was Your Bracket

Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones"

Radiohead- "Creep"

Even as a big Radiohead fan, I don't mind this song.

Outkast- "Rosa Parks"

Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump"

Any Presidents of the United States of America song not named "Peaches" doesn't belong on this list.

Cracker- "Low"

Pearl Jam- "Evenflow"

Another staple of my grunge obsessed friend.

Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do"

New Radicals- "You Get What You Give"

I really don't like this song, but I had to pick one.

Pras (ft. Maya & ODB)- "Ghetto Superstar"

Joan Osborne- "One Of Us"

Another staple of 90's pop radio.

Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U"

Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars"

Easy choice for me.

The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself"

Nada Surf- "Popular"

At the time, "Popular" was popular. When I listen to the song in retrospect, it sounds like shit.

Marcy Playground- "Sex and Candy"

Faith No More- "Epic"

Easy choice.

Extreme- "More Than Words"

Guns N Roses- "November Rain"

Although "More Than Words" is one of those cheesy songs that I like way more than I'm comfortable admitting, November Rain was just fucking awesome.

Arrested Development- "Tennessee"

Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)"

Yet another staple of my mom's contemporary music.

Everclear- "Santa Monica"

Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You"

Cracked Rear View was a great fucking album. The music video was fun, and plus it had fucking Dan Marino.

Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta"

Ben Folds Five- "Brick"

Contrary to those true Ben Folds Five fans, I like "Brick" a lot.

Fastball- "The Way"

Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains"

I saw Garbage on for the first time on Beavis and Butthead and I didn't get them.

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy"

Juvenile- "Back That Azz Up"

It just sounds so 90's.

Foo Fighters- "Everlong"

4 Non Blondes- "What's Up"

Great song.

Weezer- "Buddy Holly"

U2- "One"

Jay Z- "Can I Get A..."

(this region was pretty easy to pick as I never was a fan of pop stuff, which one of each seemed to be)

Give Me One Region To Stay Here

Nirvana- "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Blink 182- "Dammit" (don't remember this one, but didn't like the other)

Blur- "Song 2"

Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush"

Smashing Pumpkins- "Today" (Cherub Rock FTW)

Seal- "Crazy"

The Cranberries- "Dreams"

Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know"

Green Day- "Basket Case" (less overplayed than Time)

Oasis- "Wonderwall"

R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion" (weak choices for REM, IMO)

Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping"

Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway" (gets the Michael Scott seal of approval)

Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life" (happiest song about Meth that I know of)

Blind Melon- "No Rain"

2 Legit Bracket

TLC- "Waterfalls" (I hate Aerosmith from the 90s)

Spacehog- "In The Meantime"

Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P."

Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis"

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge"

Damn! I Wish I Was Your Bracket

Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones" (tough first round match up)

Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump"

Cracker- "Low" (really tough first round match up and not the song I would have chosen for either band. Not to complain, but only one Pearl Jam song? They couldn't make it into the double song region?)

Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do"

Joan Osborne- "One Of Us"

Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U"

The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself"

Faith No More- "Epic"

Guns N Roses- "November Rain"

Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)"

Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You"

Ben Folds Five- "Brick"

Fastball- "The Way"

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy" (I hate all those ass songs that came out at the same time.)

Foo Fighters- "Everlong" (this one might get my vote every round.)

Toad the Wet Bracket

Veruca Salt- "Seether"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Whatta Man" Kinda tough, but I nominated this one. I gotta have integrity.

Backstreet Boys- "I Want It That Way"

Beck- "Loser" I think I still have the cassette single for this buried away somewhere.

Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait" Never understood the love for Montell Jordan or his hit single.

Montell Jordan- "This Is How We Do It"

Everything But The Girl- "Missing" B.96 holla!

Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris"

Hanson- "Mmmbop"

The Breeders- "Cannonball" Just can't bring myself to vote for Hanson, even though I'm kinda meh on this song.

Chris Isaak- "Wicked Game"

Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice" Used to spank it to the "Wicked Game" video, but I love "Gin and Juice" way too much.

Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul"

Kris Kross- "Jump" God damn I miss fifth grade.

Eve 6- "Inside Out"

Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart" I cannot resist this here tune.

Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery"

Jamiroquai- "Virtual Insanity" I can't remember Building a Mystery. So this.

Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate" No contest.

Ricky Martin- "Livin La Vida Loca"

Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me"

Notorious B.I.G. (feat. Puff Daddy and Mace)- "Mo Money Mo Problems" Can't stand Puffy or Mase, but at least I actually listen to this song.

Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle"

L.L. Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out" Don't call it a comeback!

Boyz II Men- "End Of The Road"

Fiona Apple- "Criminal" Still bitter that" Motownphilly" wasn't seeded. I don't care if "End of the Road" was their biggest hit.

Toni Braxton- "You Mean The World To Me"

Weezer- "Buddy Holly" Easy decision.

Mariah Carey- "Dreamlover" "One" is such a boring song, and I nominated "Dream Lover!"

U2- "One"

'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart"

Jay Z- "Can I Get A..." Sort of an indifferent vote, though I like Jay.

Give Me One Region To Stay Here

Nirvana- "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Had to give the nod to their breakthrough song, overplayed or not.

Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box"

Blink 182- "Dammit" Had to go with the better riff here.

Blink 182- "All The Small Things"

Blur- "Song 2" Personal preference.

Blur- "Girls and Boys"

Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush"

Stone Temple Pilots- "Interstate Love Song" Oh, I get to choose between two of their worst songs. Wonderful!

Smashing Pumpkins- "Today"

Smashing Pumpkins- "1979" I like this one a little bit better.

Seal- "Crazy" Can't stand the Batman song. This one is a bit underrated too.

Seal- "Kiss From A Rose"

The Cranberries- "Dreams" Yeah.

The Cranberries- "Linger"

No Doubt- "Spiderwebs" Mostly because I hate "Don't Speak."

No Doubt- "Don't Speak"

Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know" Mostly because I hate "Ironic."

Alanis Morissette- "Ironic"

Green Day- "Basket Case"

Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" Can't stand "Basket Case."

Oasis- "Wonderwall" Loved this song my freshman year in high school.

Oasis- "Champagne Supernova"

R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion"

R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts" Ugh. The lesser of two evils here.

Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping" How can anyone resist this one?

Meredith Brooks- "Bitch"

Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway" Or this one, for that matter?

Bush- "Glycerine"

Toad the Wet Sprocket- "All I Want" This makes me think of Melrose Place. Or Party of Five. One of the two.

Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life"

Black Crowes- "Jealous Again" "No Rain" bored me to tears. And I don't like obese girls in bee costumes either.

Blind Melon- "No Rain"

2 Legit Bracket

Aerosmith- "Cryin'"

TLC- "Waterfalls" I used to adore TLC back in the day.

En Vogue- "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" "Black Hole Sun" is miserably overrated. Glad to see En Vogue seeded (that's what she said).

Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun"

MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This"

Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby" Sophie's choice here. This one gets the edge for the lyrical flows.

Skee-Lo- "I Wish" Another hard one. I love the Skee-Lo song too much to not vote for it. Mostly because I can relate to his problems.

Spacehog- "In The Meantime"

Salt-N-Pepa- "Shoop"

Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P." Yeah, you know me!

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- "Summertime" Hmm, should I go with the lame Verve Pipe song or the anthem of my pre-teen youth?

The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen"

Britney Spears- "...Baby One More Time"

2Pac- "California Love" I can't vote for Britney and against Tupac with the same lever. I cannot do it.

Spice Girls- "Wannabe"

The Fugees- "Killing Me Softly With His Song" And I cannot vote for the Spice Girls at all. Maybe if they were up against that Verve Pipe song.

Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang" Are you kidding me?

Bryan Adams- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"

Barenaked Ladies- "One Week"

The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony" I can relate to this song. I'm not sure about the other one. What the hell is it about anyway?

Better Than Ezra- "Good"

Beastie Boys- "Sabotage" Fred Kelly as Bunny!

The Cardigans- "Lovefool" I could have voted for both for nostalgic purposes, but Lovefool reminds me of the Clueless TV series. So there.

Spin Doctors- "Two Princes"

Tracy Chapman- "Give Me One Reason"

Offspring- "Self Esteem" Not my favorite song off this album, but I'll take what I can.

Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight"

Soul Asylum- "Runaway Train" Fun fact: I was featured in the video.

Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis"

Semisonic- "Closing Time" Yeah. 1997 represent!

Collective Soul- "Shine"

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge" I get that everybody loves this song, but "Soul to Squeeze" is still better.

Damn! I Wish I Was Your Bracket

Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones"

Radiohead- "Creep" I actually hated this song when I first heard it. I've had a change of heart. Can't say the same thing for "Mr. Jones."

Outkast- "Rosa Parks"

Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump" I love Outkast, but this song belongs in the second round.

Cracker- "Low" Fuck. Yes.

Pearl Jam- "Evenflow"

Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do"

New Radicals- "You Get What You Give" Anybody who votes for the former deserves to die.

Pras (ft. Maya & ODB)- "Ghetto Superstar" I may get shit for this one.

Joan Osborne- "One Of Us"

Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U"

Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars" I miss Alternative Nation.

The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself"

Nada Surf- "Popular" I'm never last picked. I've got a cheerleader chick.

Marcy Playground- "Sex and Candy" Too many memories at stake here. Sorry Patton.

Faith No More- "Epic"

Extreme- "More Than Words"

Guns N Roses- "November Rain" Ugh. Can I just vote for Joe Public's "Live and Learn" instead?

Arrested Development- "Tennessee" But I am still thirsty.

Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)"

Everclear- "Santa Monica"

Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You" I dislike Everclear this much.

Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta"

Ben Folds Five- "Brick" Totally unfair bracketing here.

Fastball- "The Way" Ironically enough, I like Garbage and I don't like Fastball, but this song is too... right...

Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains"

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy" How the fuck did Juvenile find his way into this tourney?

Juvenile- "Back That Azz Up"

Foo Fighters- "Everlong" Do I really gotta explain myself here?

4 Non Blondes- "What's Up"

So here we go: I've compiled a list of 128 songs using sources including but not limited to your nominations and have bracketed them into four regions. I obviously wasn't able to get everything that was mentioned or even everything that I wanted into the tournament, but I think it's a pretty good group of songs. Make sure that it's obvious which song you're voting for, only posts that include votes in each matchup will be counted, and it'd be nice to see explanations for why you're voting the way that you are. This round will probably last until Thursday or so.

Everclear- "Santa Monica"

Ben Folds Five- "Brick"

Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains"

Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy"

Foo Fighters- "Everlong"

Very few of these were even challenging.

I'm also announcing now a coalition to get Guns N Roses the fuck out of here as early as possible. GNR is horrible and the people that like them are gay fat fags.
