Chris Jericho, I just don't know what to make of him

Recommended Posts

I can remember Jericho throwing a temper tantrum over fan reaction to his matches once. It was right after King of the Ring 2002, when most fans stated that his match with RVD was "okay" and "***." Jericho was furious because he felt that he and RVD had just wrestled a match for the ages. However, that's the only example I can think of. At the time, I thought it was partly him just being in character, due to the over the top nature of the rant, but maybe he really is just that arrogant.

Either way, I enjoy the hell out of his work, his feud with HBK was the best of last year, and I can't see how his ring work can be considered boring, especially compared to other WWE matches.

I don't really get some of you saying the post didnt explain why she/he doesn't carefor Jericho. I seen plenty of things said that explained it. Just comes off as people hating on newer posters.

I will say I disagree though. The man draws crazy heat, better then Orton I personally think. He's decent in the ring 9 times out of 10. He is actually the reason I even bother for Raw anymore. I usually turn it off after hes done.

I long for the old days of gay porn overload. Can it be that it was all so simple then?

Jericho's hair totally reminds me of gay porn.

That just made me think of the controversy over this vest:

I thought the fuss was a bit over the top at the time, but looking back...

It didn't help that Bon Jovi was wearing the exact same thing during his concert run in Fall 2007. Same hairstyle and everything.

The post says why he doesn't care for Jericho, but it is all opinion based. There are no real facts or examples to back any of it up. "I don't like Jericho because he blows tons of spots and his matches suck". "He calls the fans out and thinks all his matches are great". When does he do that... In his in character promos on RAW? I don't remember reading any out of character interviews where he tells his fans off.

Edit: I just reread some of his post and he does give a few examples. But he just jumps from one topic to the next after briefly talking about each point. There's not enough meat.

Sorry I didn't type enough meat, maybe I am a closet vegaterian. Next time I will try and expand on my points.

Zzzz, sorry what. Oh that was just me going to sleep and waking up all of a sudden. Anything to do with Chris Jericho in ring does that to me these days. You see Raw was meant to get a shot in the arm with Jericho's return. It was all meant to be the best thing since sliced bread. The hype was "off the chart" but then what?* Then Chris returned and... ...well here is what I think of Jericho.

*Actually it was good but not as good as some would have.

This is what I think

Chris Jericho: **** off back to your band or change your ways.

Personally I am always in Two minds about Chris Jericho firstly I have no respect for the man (not the wrestler mind the real life man) I will explain why in a moment. That said I also (usually) enjoy his Promos, actually they can be fantastic. As his war of words with the legends shows. His matches though, he can’t go 2 matches with out blowing more spots than a Diva. His matche(s) with Jeff Hardy and JBL for example reminded me of why I dislike him.

Jericho when he wants to be is one of the top 5 men in WWE he has had more than his fair share of 5 star feuds particularly with Chris Benoit, (Yeah I said his name) HBK & Christian. That said he is not (always) capable of carrying opponents who are not as good as him or who work styles who clash with him. As far as the former goes He couldn’t drag a good feud out of Sean Waltman, mind you few could at that period of Waltman‘s career. As for the latter his feuds with several people who clashed with him most notable being Kane & William Regal were very boring & seemed to drag on forever. When booked with the right opponent though as I said he is never less than highly entertaining.

Now as for the main reason why I don’t respect him very much it’s really simple the man can’t take criticism & won’t except that his matches are not always ‘great’. Case in point he has on more than one occasion done a shoot interview on the fans, especially the internet fans when they are disappointed with one of his matches. In Jericho’s mind he never has an off night that is quite clear.

Enough bashing though instead let’s explain what role I think Jericho should be playing in WWE today. It’s really rather simple the role he should be playing is the one he played at the end of his first WWE(f) run. Putting other main eventers over while staying at the bottom of the upper mid carders / lower main eventers. The reason I say that is because he is not really good enough to carry a show, true he is a superb talker & a good wrestler but he proved in his one title reign that he can’t carry a show nor it’s title.

The IC title gained some much needed prestige under Jeff and to a lesser extent Umaga’s reigns a while back. (It is still not defended enough but is at least on champions who are entertaining. Yes including JBL.) I hope Jericho can continue this and keep up the good name of the Title.

No doubt many people here will loudly & happily disagree with all or some of the above, but take a step back for a minute & think about what you are going to say when replying to this thread.

“You suck, Jericho is cool.” that would be an atypical reply by some, it would also be pointless instead take my main points (Jericho is not main event material, Jericho is not capable of carrying a lesser wrestler, Jericho blows moves far too often & lastly Jericho is an egomaniac to be exact) & counter argue or agree with them in a logical way that’s all I ask of anybody who replies to this.

This is stupid. The poster, her post, her use of "except" in the context of "accept" and the confidence she displays in an argument so poorly constructed that everybody has deemed it unworthy of serious discussion. Jericho is cool though...

In her defence, she's not English so the accept/except thing is forgiveable.

I do agree though, Jericho is just awesome.

I'm not English and I can spell. In fact, I spell better than most Englishmen. ;) :P

Yeah, sorry lady, you're stupid but not for your use of English.

No offence taken mate. You're stupid also. Most Jericho fans are.

See now, that's not cool.

Just having a laugh at his expense. I don't really think that way. I just hate when people call somebody stupid.

I have never really liked Jericho in the ring. In WCW, I thought he had a good finish, but I was never a fan of the actual match substance. He, for the most part, has always been a good promo though. Well, at least when he wasn't getting out of hand with catchphrases when WWF went through that whole period.

His heel character right now is really good because he seems to be getting genuine heat. People hate him. In 2009, that's not an easy thing to do. Well, unless you're Vickie Guerrero!

He's going to win at Wrestlemania, I just have a feeling.

You know, I can't help but wonder if the heat he is getting is that X-Pac go away kind of heat.

I was going to disagree with you 100%, before thinking that nobody actually sits there and enjoys legendary wrestlers being belittled, embarrassed and beaten down. Randy Orton as The Legend Killer was one thing.. but Jericho's actions are simply reprehensible. I could barely watch the beat down on Flair because it was just so.. heel like.

Crowd would have eaten it up 25 years ago.. Today? I'm sure the crowd just sat there not knowing how to react.

I'm sure once Jericho gets his come-uppance at Mania, the crowd will go back to simply hating him for the right reasons.

-- One man's opinion.

But isn't that the mark of a great heel? Someone who goes above and beyond to make sure that you hate his guts? Over the last few years its been too common for the heels to get cheered because some people think its "cool" or what not. I'm a Jericho fan and I hope he gets booed out of the damn building for this angle. If he doesn't get all of the boo birds, then he is not doing is job correctly. Remember a few years back when Triple H made some remarks that Angle did know how to play the heel and that's why he was getting cheered over Cena? Then Triple H had a match with Cena at Mania where Triple H played the heel yet received the vast majority of the cheers...so much so that the announcers has to cover their asses by calling all of the fans "traditional" fans.

Bottom line is that a heel should do whatever he can in his power to get boos and hatred from the crowd. Remember JBL goose-stepping in German a few years ago? Drew a lot of criticism but goddamn if that wasn't an awesome heel move. You can't tell me there wasn't a fan in that arena who didn't want to see JBL get his ass kicked after doing that.

Now, in terms of the match at Mania with the legends, it probably won't be anything overly special. Most of the legends are just too old to be able to work a legit match (with Steamboat maybe being the most promising opponent in the match). I would compare this match to a match from the 80's where it sure won't be a clinic, but it should be able to play off the crowd enough to not stink the joint up.

Definately, right now Chris Jericho and Randy Orton are THE true 'great' heels in the WWE at the moment. Unfortunately, with WWE's PG attitude currently, being a great heel might not necessarily be a great thing. That's why I said the crowd would have had the right reaction 25 years ago moreso than today.

Newbies making bold topics and getting laughed at by the regs. It's like coming home after being out of town for a few weeks.

Doesn't bother me, just makes me know I am as good a poster as any of them. It's a fear reaction, they don't want a newbie to look like they are as good a poster as them.
