Guest bob_barron Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 Bret Hart suffered a mild stroke in a bicycle accident on Monday, but is now out of danger and listed in stable condition in a Calgary hospital. . Hart was riding at a high speed when his bicycle hit a pot hole, and he flew forward over the handle bars and landed hard on his neck and the back of his head. After a battery of tests, it was revealed that he had suffered a stroke on the right side of his brain. One of the reasons he was forced to retire from wrestling in 2000 was because there was fear because of the damage from the serious concussions in the ring that he could suffer a stroke if he took another hard blow to the head. According to those close to the situation, he has made great progress since Monday, but has very limited control of the left side of his body. He suffered no brain damage from a mental standpoint, but the part of the brain which controls his ability to move that side of his body was damaged. He will have to undergo an arduous program to relearn how to fully control his arm and his leg, which will require a lengthy hospital stay. Doctors are hopeful he'll be able to make nearly a full recovery. He is off all machines and today was the first day he was able to eat.

Guest The Superstar Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 That's horrible. At least he's in stable condition...my thoughts are with Bret and all the Harts.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 Whew, almost lost another one. What next? Jim Neidhart gets mugged by a gang and beaten within an inch of his life?
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 damn the curse of the hart foundation!!!
Guest BookerTman Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 Whoa! This seemed to come outta nowhere!
Guest JAxlMorrison Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 This is the saddest news I have heard in a while, and that is obviously saying something. I was an old school Hitman mark when I was a kid, he was my first real favorite (Anyone else remember marking their little asses off when it was announced on Superstars that he had beaten Flair for the strap?) Anyways, I will say a prayer for Bret tonight, and hopefully someone on this board will get wind of an email address to send get well wishes to him.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 i looked but couldn't find one. slam! sports who hart writes a column for didn't mention his accident when I was looking for an address on their site. we should get this confirmed.

Guest dreamer420 Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 i looked around and a few sites are reporting that news. it's horrible what happened but at least the doctor think he'll make a full recovery.

Guest CED Ordonez Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 Well, those words are from Meltzer, so you might as well consider it fact.
