Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Okay I tried to watch MTV's teen based TRL music countdown and I got soo pissed off. I couldnt finish watching it. The hosts are annoying and the fact that sometimes they show only 30 seconds of the video and then go off to talk and talk and do useless crap. I dont mind special guests or contests once in a while but damnit is MTV not stand for MUSIC television. Its still one of the worst countdown shows I have ever seen. Your thoughts? Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted June 28, 2002 I still remember the first time I saw it. They were giving one of my favorite videos at the time and then all of a sudden, some chick starts talking and screaming WOO! for no f'n reason and i'm like... "WHAT THE FUCK!?" If its not bad enough, I've worked in Times Square for the past 2 years and the crowds get unbearable, you can't even walk sometimes. Dames
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted June 28, 2002 The show is designed to cater to the 12-18 year old crowd. Most of the people in this age group have had their brains turned to mush by television, to the point where they'll turn off anything that requires them to pay attention for longer than a few minutes. Thus, TRL takes the bold step of not showing the whole video and interspersing the portions of the video that they do show with a bunch of random Internet user's opinions on the bottom AND some obviously pre-written comments and yelping from people on the street. It's fucking unwatchable, yes, but at least MTV knows who their target market is and, unlike some entertainment companies, actually targets that market. Rather than playing Cyndi Lauper videos on TRL just because she used to be popular.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Hey, I'd love for them to play Cyndi Lauper videos. Meanwhile, to address the topic at hand, I haven't watched it in a while. Ever since it became the literal teenage institution that it is these days, I haven't watched. Not becuase I don't like it, there just isn't any want on my part to watch it. Last time I watched was specifically to see if my vote(s) had gotten Kylie on there, and when she was on, I went "absolutely nut.(little joke for people who read Foley's books)" Then they showed only a minute and a half of the video. I don't watch mostly because I always forget that it's on, like Smackdown.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Why does Pink have black electrical tape on her nipples? Is she ashamed of the fact that her aerolas are a slightly darker color? Why do they show clips of videos? If they have no intention of showing the whole video then why put it in the countdown?
Guest MrRant Report post Posted June 28, 2002 I dispise anything to do with teeny boppers.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Agreed. This show is just painful to watch. "I wanna see britney's new video, I don't know what it is, but she rocks! Whooo!" Hell, MTV as a whole is unwatchable. MTV2 has Control Freak, but that's about the only thing I can watch for longer than 10 minutes. If MTV just instituted an MTV Classsics channell, I'd be happy. Show me 80s and early 90s videos, and I will stop bitching about how bad the channell has become.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 28, 2002 She DOES rock, dammit. I don't know if I approve of the "whooo" at the end though. EMBRACE THE POP~! (The SmartMark board's resident Pop mark)
Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted June 28, 2002 She doesn't rock (You'd actually have to play Rock in order to do so), but she's got Pop. I'll give the little slut that.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 28, 2002 I know she doesn't rock in the literal sense of playing rock music, but, but... She still rocks, dammit. Britney -- She's got more Pop than the new TNN!
Guest massivHEDtrauma Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Hell yeah she fucking rocks. I love 70's-style punk and all sorts of rock and roll, but the song "Lucky" is just as caliber as anything, my friends. On that note, BRITNEY ROCKS~!

Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 28, 2002 HEY HEY!!! Caron Daly is the freakin man. Imagine if they gave one of you guys the host job of TRL. That is Carson Daley. For the most part, you can tell he hates the whole lot of videos they play, and is always sneaking in snide remarks towards them. Then, sometimes, he gets genuinely excited when someone is on the show (Like Xzhibit, Prince and others) you can tell he really likes there music. With everyone else he's going through the motions and making these little faces at the camera as to say "Yeah, these guys suck!" He's Ricky Rackman for the new millenium...only he doesn't get to play good music too often. And yes, Britney does Rock..
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Yeah, I think that Carson's contempt for the atmosphere that materialized around him is often forgotten. When it started out, he probably loved it, since it was a half hour of him sitting behind a desk-looking thing and showing five videos. Then they took it to a studio and an hour, and ten videos. Still okay... except there were more crappy videos on there in his mind. Then they started having the audience... and ugh. Then it was less about videos and more about him having to interview people... he isn't a happy camper, let me assure you. Hell, the man has said he wants to poison the water supply of Orlando so we don't get any more boy bands.
Guest Hitman Jebus Report post Posted June 29, 2002 Jimmy Fallon in every Carson Daly sketch on SNL: "Hi, I'm Carson Daly and I'm a massive tool."
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted June 29, 2002 Do you ever wonder if Carson wakes up every morning, looks into the mirror and chants to himself, "I am not a tool!" over and over again?
