Were Leeds right to sack O'Leary?

OK so it should be well known by now (To uk fans at least) That Leeds United have sacked their manager David O'Leary. Not trying to be cynical but it looks to me like he got sacked for speaking out against the possible sale of Rio Ferdinand What do you think about the situation

From a football point of view, I think they were a bit hasty, and given him some time into next season, say 6-10 games. But on the other hand, O'Leary has spent £100m over 4 years with nothing to show for it, not even a Champions League place.

Behind the scenes he has repoirtedly been complaining about having to sell players to balance the books, and that book he released last season about the club and the Bowyer/Woodgate trial was ill timed to say the least, and didn't endear O'Leary to the board or players.

It was probably time for him to go as if he had lost the support of the board and players, on pitch perfomances would have suffered.

O'Leary had to go, he had spent a fortune and what trophies has he brought the team? After the selling of players his transfer dealings have left Leeds 67 million worse off and they arent in the Champions League.

Like Chelsea, money can't buy you a trophy. It was the smartest thing Leeds had done

Who do u think will be the new boss, and how quickly will he sell Rio to Man United

new boss is terry venables, and yeah, they were totally justified in sacking o'leary, he had his chance

O'Leary not only had his chance, he took liberties.

Not since Kevin Keegan at Newcastle has one manager failed to deliver after spending so much money(Keegan spent £60m).

£100 million punds is a ridiculous amount of money, and most of his signings he mistreated, Huckerby, Johnson and Keane to name a few.

Venables is a good replacement, but I wonder if Risdale will be willing to open the coffers for El Tel.

dont open the coffers, just sell some of that dead weight they have. they could make a lot of money by just selling the guys they have no real intention of using (or arent using properly)

Flame me for what I will say next but hear me out.

If I was Venables, I would sell Harry Kewell.

He is a quality player, but he hasn't been the same since his big injury last year.

Leeds would easily get in excess of £15 Million from Italy or Spain.

i was gonna suggest that too, but i thought i would get roasted (especially as an aussie). imo kewell is overvalued, and should be sold while leeds can get good money for him. they could have much greater success with the money they would pull for selling that fella.

The other problem for Leeds is their Strikers.

Fowler is proven class in the Premiership and in Europe, and Venables likes him, so he'll stay.

Keane played a blinder of a World Cup so he will be valued highly, but he is useful to have around.

However Leeds need a big Man up front, a target man, seeing as Fowler and Keane are on the short side.

there are also no real obvious targets for them to buy either. o'leary spent big, but he certainly didnt spend wisely. in season 2000-01, two of their best stars were bowyer and kewell, who were both missing last year. leeds' problem isnt really its strikers, and isnt really its defence (although losing rio ferdinand will hurt), its their midfield, its inconsistency and general lack of that x-factor which gets man u over the line. kewell could provide that x factor, but he is really a lot like tim henman, he cannot step up.

Your right an X-Factor is what every team needs(Except the WWF LOL).

Man United have Beckham and Keane.

Newcatle have Solano and Dyer.

Arsenal have Pires and Ljungberg.

Liverpool have Gerrard.

Leeds have got nothing.

If I was el tel I'd probably ditch Dacourt, Harte, Kelly, Bridges and use the money to try and buy Aimar

I wouldn't sell Harte.

He is probably the best LeftBack in the Premiership outside of Ashley Cole.

keep harte, he was one of the best things going for leeds last season.
