WWF RAW – 2/18/02

Road to WrestleMania

Austin walks out with the WCW title. He says that at Royal Rumble, Triple H was the only person who could get Stone Cold Steve Austin out of the ring. But last night at No Way Out, Triple H dropped the first fall to Stone Cold just like at WrestleMania Triple H is going to lose the WWF title to Stone Cold Steve Austin, and that’s the bottom line, because Stone Cold said so. Jericho’s music blares out over the speakers and Jericho comes out to inform Austin that he hasn’t earned that title yet junior. Jericho says he wasn’t pinned last night for her title, but thanks to a clause, he can still get a rematch for that title, a title Stone Cold Steve Austin didn’t earn and furthermore is afraid to defend against him. Austin knows than Jericho is a living legend, a man so destined for fame, that Austin was afraid to go through him for the WCW title. Because Austin’s always been afraid of doing things the noble way, winning the right way; Austin’s always been the biggest cheater of any wrestler in the WWF. Stone Cold tells Jericho that if he wants to keep on talking, Stone Cold can walk up the ramp and give him an ass whipping right now. Austin heads through the ropes but Flair interrupts. Flair tells Jericho that tonight they will have a no holds barred match for the WCW title, and HHH will have to defend on Thursday against the Rock. Flair says that this WrestleMania will be the biggest ever in Toronto. It could be Rock vs. Jericho for the WWF title, Stone Cold vs. Rock, HHH vs. Jericho, or HHH vs. Austin. Whooo! Flair says the WCW champ could unite both titles. Whoooo! Austin charges at Jericho and they brawl until security show up.

#1 Contender’s match

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Shane Helms

At 10:20, the light blank. The strobe hits and three guys are in the ring beating on two others, with another on the outside. Suddenly the lights hit and Kaz Hayashi, TAKA, and Funaki are there with Tajiri on the outside. All four are startled by the light coming on, giving Helms and Rey enough time to recover. They both hit punches that stagger TAKA and Funaki, than leap up and hit a double dropkick on Kaz knocking him down. TAKA and Funaki quickly bounce back and whip them into the rope but Helms and Rey reverse that into two hurricanranas. They double clothesline Kaz over the top rope, prompting Juventud, Chavo, and Essa Rios to run out and take on the three. Meanwhile, Helms and Rey start battling it out with Helms getting a whip on Rey but Rey reversing, and Tajiri throwing a kick from the apron to Helms thinking that Rey would be there. But that fool ain’t got a chance in hell, now can you dig that sucka….

Chris Jericho asks Michael Cole why he thinks Stone Cold Steve Austin is going to beat him tonight. Is it some foregone conclusion that Chris Jericho is a choker, that he’ll drop the big match when it counts, that he’ll lose in the clutch. What, was it not enough that he beat the rock, retired the Undertaker, took out Triple H, beat Triple H, and beat both RVD and Booker T. Is anything ever enough for you people.
