2002 WWE Match of the Year?

I elect Chris Jericho vs. The Rock from the Royal Rumble. Awesome f'n match. I know I'm gonna catch a ton of heat for this one, but I give that match *****. I loved everything that they did from bell to bell, from the trash talk to the finish.

Uh...I'm not asking you to play Miss Cleo and tell me what match will be MOTY come December. I'm asking what match has been MOTY thus far. Obviously, there is a MOTY (so far) for 2002 because there had to be one match better than all of the rest. We ARE also halfway into 2002, you know.

The X title match I cannot comment on since I haven't seen. I'd give it to the RVD/Eddie ladder match. The Edge/Angle matches all had too much resting to be MOTY in my view.

 

I think we all know that PWI will end up with Hogan/Rock as MOTY though. Heh.

I haven't seen any PPV's, so my vote goes to the RVD/Eddie ladder match, which I have on tape and occasionally watch.

There were IMO 6 other *** that could have made my cut. Angle vs. Kane & Y2J vs. HHH from Mania, Eddie vs. RVD from Backlash, Austin vs. Flair/Show from Judgment Day, Angle vs. Edge cage match from 5/30 SD!, and Y2J vs. RVD from KotR. I chose Flair vs. McMahon for the last spot because I feel that it completely fulfilled its potential, while the other matches either were lacking something or else the wrong person went over. Just my opinion.

Up until a few weeks ago, I had Jericho/Rock from Royal Rumble as the MOTY. Now I can't choose between that match and the RVD/Eddie ladder match. Both are **** in my book, so I can't decide.

There are quite a few *** to ***1/2 matches that happened this year (notably the Angle/KAne series that all easily scored *** on free TV almost nightly for awhile there). I'm guessing my list is a bit off, though, as I haven't seen the X Title match. I conjecture that it may be a bit overated due to it coming from an indy promotion but I would be willing to be it's as good as the current #2... Anyway that's just my blasphemous opinion.

 

Keep in mind I haven't watched any RAW.

My MOTY is the three-way main event from the ROH show, Daniels vs. Lo-Ki vs. American Dragon. ****1/2

 

Nothing qualifies yet from WWE, but if I had to give it to one match, it'd probably be the RVD/Guerrero ladder match at ***1/2.

As for WWE, Rock/Jericho, deffinately. I don't think anything else has gotten to ****, aside from Angle/Edge from Backlash. Eddy/RVD was disjointed and so NOT what I would call a great ladder match. Too much big bumps with no substance behind any of it.

I really don;t know rated it what, but if memory serves correctly jericho/austin from nwo was very good, so i'll go with that. Nothing else was really all that great, anytime rvd is in a gimmick match it will get rave reviews from the smarks, and everytime angle has a descent match you get the same thing. That edge match was terrible, with a few fast spots and false finishes at the end.

For technique/brawling/psychology, it's a tie between Rock vs. Jericho from Royal Rumble, and Austin vs. Flair on Raw June 3rd.....
