Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 30, 2002 Ah yes, I remember the days when WWF Monday Night RAW was just kicking ass, and making all other cable TV shows (including WCW Nitro), it's own personal toy bitch. It didn't look like anything else would ever bring RAW down to it's knees, and more realisticly, back down to reality. By some miracle of God, Pro. Wrestling became absolutly huge begining way back in 1996 as a result of the birth of the nWo in WCW. From there, it just got bigger and bigger, and once the WWF's new "Attitude" era began and was in full force, there seemed to end in sight to how far the industry could go, but then, after WCW tripped and feel down the crapper, and the WWF began lenghty periods of just plain bad product, something horrible happend. It seems like almost overnight, Pro. Wrestling became "un-cool" once again. The ratings began to consistantly head south, and the industry as a whole began to be thought of less and less by many casual fans. All of those "new" fans who were brought in back in this huge Pro. Wrestling Explosion of the late 90's all of a sudden began to fade away. I suppose they went back to what they were doing before, they decided that it was time to move on and get a head start on the next "in" thing in pop. culture. Anyhow, whatever the reason, many fans began to just, disapear. So that brings me to my actual point of this post... ...do all of you guys think that the current lack ot those huge ratings is not so much that everyone is still fans but just don't care to tune in, but rather, the Pro. Wrestling Boom of it being "cool" is over for now. Which ever way you feel, when do you feel that Pro. Wrestling will once again become "cool"? We're always talking about how WWE can now bring their ratings up, and once again get to the point that they once were, but is that even possible now? No matter what they do, could they even get back to the former leval they were in terms of fans and ratings... ...could it be that the Pro. Wrestling Explosion is totally over for now? Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest undisputedjericho Report post Posted June 30, 2002 The 'boom' is definitly over. A few years ago, I'd see everybody in DX or Austin shirts. Everybody was talking about Raw on Tuesdays. Everybody was using the catchphrases. A DX was started in my class back in '98. It was all the rage. Then, after about WrestleMania XV, the fad pretty much died. Sure, the ratings were huge two summers ago, the crowds were hot and the arenas were filled. Around me though, it's 'coolness' had long since faded.
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted June 30, 2002 The "Pro Wrestling Boom" has been over for quite some time. I knew it was over when a local J.C. Penny's took all of their wrestling shirts off of the shelves. I knew that it was happening when the shirts were on the shelves. All the kids at school, since I was still in school back then, were talking about how they were fans, and had been fans for years. Kindof funny since none of them admitted it until it became popular. nWo, Wolfpac & Austin shirts were popping up everywhere. Well, them days are over, and I say good. I like watching still, even if it gets bad. I'll continue to watch, and I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks about it. I don't need my peers approval to like something. I felt sorry for all of the sheep that I went to school with. They are the same people who make their parents buy them Billibong, Mossimo, etc. clothes so that they can fit in. Being fat, it didn't matter what the fuck I wore, as long as it fit. I'm glad that they are gone. Fuck em. Wrestling is better when all the idiots leave. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 30, 2002 I don't buy into the cyclical nature of wrestling. Wcw saved the Wwf, plain and simple. There is no Wcw, so who will save em now? And since the Wwf has a stranglehold over the market, if it goes under, it will be a good decade until the industry gets back on its feet again. No recessions here, this is going to be one long fn depression if the Wwf doesn't watch it.

I always talked about going to house shows with my dad when I was younger, when it wasn't cool. And I'll still admit to watching it now and always will, to the very last minute of the very last RAW, if that's what it comes down to. But I don't think it will come to that.
