WWF/E DVD Recommendations

Yea. I'll be getting some soon.

So what are the best recent PPV's? 2000 to present?

And which, if any, are good wrestler-specific kind (like Foley's "Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops")?

Suggest, you bastards!

I would get:

Best of RAW

Mick Foley Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops

Wrestlemania X-7

WWF Hardcore isn't too horrible

KOR 2001 just for Shane vs. Angle

Invasion just because of the promise

SummerSlam 2001 had a couple good matches with Rock vs Booker and SCSA vs Angle as well as RVD vs Hardy in the Hardcore Ladder Match

All I can think of right now.

Hard Knocks, Cheap Pops is the only one I've seen, and dammit if it doesn't kick 10 different kinds of ass.

Buy it now.

Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops is the essential WWF DVD thus far.

Stone Cold Steve Austin "What?" is good, plus 2 good bonus matches.

I just bought Triple H "The Game" and haven't watched it yet, but DVD quality Flair/Steamboat WrestleWar '89 is worth the 20 bucks alone, IMO. Plus you get Cactus/HHH from Rumble 2000.

nWo "Back in Black" is essential if you were around during the original nWo storyline. To be honest, it needs to be longer though. One of the extras is the '96 WarGames match, which IMO is one of the better WarGames.

As far as PPVs on DVD, I'd recommend Rumble 2000, Summerslam 2000, Rumble 01, WrestleMania X-7, Summerslam 01, Vengeance 01, and Rumble 02. InVasion 01 and Survivor Series 01 are essential if you want to re-live the Invasion storyline. I dunno why you would, but Survivor Series is really cool and dramatic if you pretend that it really all means what it should have meant.

Rebellion 01 was a UK only PPV that got released on DVD, and I'd say it's a must-buy. A good Edge vs. Christian cage match, a great Jericho vs. Angle match, and a very good Rock vs. Austin match. Plus, one of the DVD extras is Rock vs. Jericho from Raw where Rock wins the WCW title back, which is essential if you (like me) want to have all of the major matches from the Rock/Jericho feud on DVD.

[EDIT] I sure use the word "essential" a lot, don't I? Oh well, I'm a completist, and I must have EVERY WWF/E DVD eventually, so it's all essential to me. I'm willing to skip the Divas DVDs though.

inVasion is the only WWF DVD I own, and I'd say it's more of a curio than something actually worth watching over and over again. The RVD/Hardy match is good, but I actually think the RVD/Jericho match a few months later at Unforgiven (I think) was better. Kidman vs. X-Pac was OK too, but the rest of it just doesn't work that well. The Inaugural Brawl is just stupid... I'm sorry but a six-man has no business main-eventing a RAW, much less a PPV.

On the DVD aspect, the inVasion DVD has a bunch of extra footage of the wrestlers doing last minute preparations before the match and exiting after the match/post-match interviews. Tazz' post match interview is probably the only one worth watching, because RAVEN~! pops in for no apparent reason and leaves just as quickly, and while they're talking the Big Show's pyro explodes and Tazz plays it off like he farted. Stupid? Yes. Pointless? Of course, but they all are. The only other one I can remember is Chris Jericho's preparations before the match where they show him rubbing himself down with baby oil (!)... now how is it they have all these Divas Undressed shows, when this little segment proves they're more than capable of putting on a little Y2Jerotica... I'd pay to see that! OK, not really. Actually, there is a programming error on the DVD because the only two post-match segments I actually wanted to see, Kidman and Angle, are the only two that don't work!

Quick question though for anyone who knows... on the King of the Ring DVD, do they feature any of the qualifying matches on the disc as well, or just the semi-finals and finals matches that were on the PPV?

Is the "Best of 2001" DVD any good? It's 2h30min, so I'm assuming that some of the top 10 matches are clipped. Does anyone know for sure?

Last night, I bought the HHH DVD, and the best of RAW (1 and 2). The Triple H DVD itself is kinda funny, because there are some parts which make the smark in you laugh, but then there's him talking about getting a dish for his hotel room in Birmingham when he was re-habbing. He needed it to get the WWF shows...and as a bonus he got porno. Not a bad story.

The Flair/Steamboat match is worth the twenty bucks anyway. It had the best chopping I've ever seen.

The best of RAW is pretty cool...reliving stuff from when I was in the seventh grade.

Well, to go on overall quality, the PPV DVDs should probably be bought depending on how you liked the show.

Here's the ones I have and my recommendations:

Stone Cold Steve Austin: What?- One of the best WWF/E/whatever DVDs out there now. The main feature is great and the extras are damn good as well although they could have chosen a better Austin/Steamboat match. High recommendation

Mick Foley: Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops - Probably the best WWF DVD out on the market now. Great feature, great extras, you will watch this one over and over again. Highest recommendation

NWO: Back In Black - Not that good at all and WAYYYY too long with some seriously boring parts. The extras aren't that good except for the Bash '96 match. Slight recommendation if you want to check out some of the eariler history of the NWO.

Royal Rumble 2001 - Not much in the ways of extras, but the show is pretty damn good.

No Mercy 2001 - Solid show, but no extras whatsoever.

Survivor Series 2001 - Meh, average show, decent extras(except for Vince getting Regal to kiss his ass).

Vengeance 2001 - Lackluster up until the Hardcore Title match and the main event.

Royal Rumble 2002 - Good show, average extras(unless you like Tazzzzzz and Spike watching their match in kayfabe)

WrestleMania X-8 - Lackluster show, but they packed the extras on both disks including the Hogan/Warrior match from WM 6.
