Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Report post Posted June 30, 2002 In the video for Rey, all they show is stuff when he had his mask on and BEFORE his knee injury. If you all remember, after he came back, he wasnt as great as he was as shown in the clips. Don't you think the WWE is pushing us with the Past Rey and not the current Rey? Guest TheSmarkzone Report post Posted June 30, 2002 Well, that remains to be seen. I think his affiliation with the Filthy Animals hurt his wrestling style more than injuries. Settling into your gimmick can be the kiss of death. I think that Rey was unmotivated in WCW during the Russo Era, and he realized that he could get the same reaction doing Bronco Busters and hanging out with Tygress as he could with a springboard Frankensteiner...and not risk life and limb in the process. I'm sure that all of his nagging injuries have healed by now and that being in the big-time will light a fire under his ass again. Maybe he's not the same, but even if he's 1/10th of the performer that he was in 1995-1997, I'll take it.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted June 30, 2002 I think the clips were only of his earlier matches because he's coming back masked. There's no point putting him in a mask if they're going to show his face at every opportunity.
Guest Prince Paul Report post Posted June 30, 2002 I don't think he'll be wrestling as good as he was in those video clips, but he should be in better shape than his final days in WCW. Wow, my 200th post. Is this a milestone?

Just for your information, if you ask me, there near the end of WCW Rey Jr. was getting back to the top of his game. I began to see shades of how he REALLY used to be. Am I the only one who thought Rey was getting a LOT better there at the end of WCW?
Guest Prince Paul Report post Posted June 30, 2002 no. it's not. I didn't think so. My first milestone, will be post #420. I'll have a small celebration at my computer desk for that one!
Guest joshicho Report post Posted June 30, 2002 I'll be honest, my only look at Rey is his match vs Psychosis at ECW in 95, and the Tag match from the last Nitro so i must have missed out the whole inbetween bit where he wasnt as good supposedly. But from what I have seen of him, i am looking forward to his return.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted June 30, 2002 I think those baggy pants he wore around his ass hurt his mobility and the needles he shoved in his ass didn't help either. He was getting better at the end of WCW. He looked pretty good in the two spot fests on the last Nitro, but I doubt he has regained his 95-97 form. He was only 22 or something then. Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted June 30, 2002 Rey sucked in 1999 after losing his mask and getting hurt. He wasn't helped by being with Master P and then the Filthy Animals. Near the end of WCW though he got on his game and tore it up with Kidman in some cruiser tag matches.
Guest Nezbyte Report post Posted June 30, 2002 how old is Rey Rey now?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Rey Rey did improve dramaticly in the final days of WCW after lazying his F.A gimmick. He's still very young at 25-28, although he would be very much older then his cruiserweight counterparts like Knoble and Hurricane but I'm still confident the greatest American Cruiser can still go. Guest Downhome Report post Posted July 5, 2002 how old is Rey Rey now? He was born on December 12, 1974 which would make him 27 if I'm correct. On a side note, in a bio I just read it said that he dropped out of school in the 11th grade. Did any of you guys know that? Just for fun, it says that he is 5'6 and 165lbs. Guest Smeghead Report post Posted July 5, 2002 After WCW went under, he wrestled in Mexico for CMLL for a little while. I saw a few of his matches on Galavision, and he looked pretty damn good. And the matches he's had in OVW and in WWE dark matches and house shows have gotten great reviews. I don't think we'll be disappointed with Rey at all. Guest Downhome Report post Posted July 5, 2002 ...although he would be very much older then his cruiserweight counterparts like Knoble and Hurricane but I'm still confident the greatest American Cruiser can still go. Just for the sake of conversation, Hurricane was actually born on July 12, 1974 which would make him OLDER than Rey Jr. at 27 also, but five months exactly older than him. As for Jammie Knoble, he was born on December 23, 1976 thus making him 25 years old. Anyhow... ...my point is just that they are all somewhat close in age, and Helms is actually older than most think he his.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Well...Maybe it was the fact I've seen Rey wrestle since 1995 and Knoble only JUST debuted that made think Rey Rey was much older then them.

I know what you mean, I thought that same thing untill I saw your post saying that and decided to look into it for myself, lol. Regardless of age, it's the vetern in Rey Rey that will truly make him seem "older" than the others. I'm sure they all could learn a thing about their peer, regardless of him not being all that much older than them age wise.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Plus, if you saw the pics someone posted here from his match at a house show, he looks 10x bigger. That could hurt his mobility, unless of course the McMahon-Machine pulled another, "you WILL wrestle OUR way"
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted July 6, 2002 regardless we know we are gonna get total rey mystero when he comes to the WWE. because the Moveset Restrictions will cut out 45% of the moves we just love seeing, he become more ground wrestler rollups with a few flying moves. Probably won't get to do the Bronco Buster because of Xpac, may even get into a silly feud with Xpac over the right to use it Alla Billy Jack Haynes vs Hercules Wm3

Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 6, 2002 Even though Rey's only 27-28, he's also accumulated quite an amount of "ring age", since he's been wrestling for almost all of the last decade, with a good portion of those years running at a breakneck pace with lots of bumps. I think he'll be great and he'll probably be better than any of the other cruiserweights on the roster, but I don't think he'll ever approach 1997-era Rey Misterio again. Probably won't get to do the Bronco Buster because of Xpac, may even get into a silly feud with Xpac over the right to use it Alla Billy Jack Haynes vs Hercules Wm3 From the promos, it looks like they may let him use the high-flying stuff. It would be a mistake to include that stuff in the promo, then make him more mat-based than high-flyer. And I imagine they'll stick him on Smackdown, since that's where the cruiser division is, so that should preclude a feud w/ X-Pac. Plus, he's been working Smackdown house shows. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 6, 2002 Funny, the only Rey Misterio matches I've seen were in the latter days of WCW against Billy Kidman, and I was still impressed. Even if he's "not at his prime", he'll still win the fans over because he'll still be the best cruiserweight on the roster.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted July 6, 2002 One of the best matches I saw last year was Rey and Essa Rios against 3 generic luchadores on Galavision. I was on the way home and stopped at Burrito Mundo, resturant of kings. Anyway, the point is, Rey can't move like he used to. And it's sure as shit that you will never see a Twisting Super Rana on Raw. But, if Rey is even allowed to halfway resemble a luchadore, the fans will go batshit, just like they did with Benoit and RVD and Tajiri. If nothing else, he will get large rounds of applause at the end of his matches for not using a neckbreaker, spinebuster, or clothesline.
