Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 30, 2002 I highly recommend all of you going out and renting The Item. If you ignore the fact that it was shot on a low-budget camera (looks almost digital to me), you can EASILY enjoy this film. The acting is great (only 2 roles are done over-the-top, and they're meant to be over-the-top anyways), the effects are pretty good for an indy budget, and the gore...tons of gore. Plus...KUNG-FU TRANSVESTITE~!~ I'd give it a solid **** easily. Here's the story, as taken from the back of the box: Four felons are contacted by an anonymous client via the Internet. Their instructions - go to a remote location, pick up a sealed box and keep it safe for 24 hours. The reward - over a million dollars. Seems simple enough. However, upon getting it back to their apartment, their curiosity gets the better of them and they decide to investigate their package. What they discover is that they have unleashed a deadly creature - and none of them are getting out alive. Truth be told, this summar is pretty wrong. They have to take care of the package for roughly 10 hours, and the creature isn't exactly deadly per se...it's not a savage "rip you apart" creature, but it fucks with their minds. Guest Anorak Report post Posted June 30, 2002 Sounds like some crappy Troma film but i'll have to take your word for it.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 30, 2002 Actually, it's from Artisan...heh... Definitely really cheesy parts in the movie, but all around, it's pretty fucking good.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted July 1, 2002 Ehhhh. It was allright, but not that great. The director really tried, and he went over the top with the violence and gore to compensate for the low budget, but I wasn't blown away or anything. The alien thingy was pretty nifty. I wouldn't call it a science-fiction movie though. More of a "black comedy/horror".

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 1, 2002 Eh... it's an all right movie, I guess. I rented it and watched it a few times, but aside from a pretty quotable phallus-shaped alien there's not much in it to recommend (in fact, for some reason the camera-work struck me as really bad). If you want more out of me, you can always read my IMDb comments. By the by, Corey, I FINALLY picked up The Dead Hate the Living! and will review it for my return column either today or tomorrow. WTF? It's 4pm already?! Dammit! I guess more of tomorrow, since RAW's coming on later and I have to try and bum a ride to the mall to pick up Top Gun as a late birthday present. I saw the movie though, and was impressed... I'm a Full Moon mark all the way, no matter how "bad" their films get (what else would make me write a glowing IMDb review of Killjoy?), but its always extra-super-duper-cool to see one of their films that's "good" in a traditional sense, although the CGI-effects in the end took a lot away from it. Blech, maybe I SHOULD just watch the rest of the DVD and write the review today... I haven't written anything in so long... I still have to write an Undercover Brother review for IMDb, and I saw that movie opening weekend
