Guest Marshall Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 ...gimmick matches in the main event? 2000 was full of this, in fact there was just about every type you could think of in 2000; HITC, street fight, Iron man matches, four ways, four way knock outs, Last man standing. What happend? Somtimes main events can become dull without that twist.
Guest Brian Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 Because gimmick matches were way too overused.
Guest Tony149 Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 The Royal Rumble was a gimmick match and was the main event. But like Brian said. They're over-used.
Guest joshicho Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 I like gimmick matches in the main event but last year when they had like a ladder match every month it really sucked
Guest Ghast Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 They overused them for a little but it's been too lnog since we had them. Bring them back.
Guest The Masked Yodeler Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 We have had some gimmick matches for the WWF Title: Wrestlemania - No DQ Backlash - WWF, IC and Tag titles were all on the line in a tag match, I'd say that's a gimmick match. King of the Ring - Triple Threat No Mercy - Triple Threat Vengeance - mini-Tournament
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 No more gimmick matches. Let's look back at the Main Events of the past year. Royal Rumble - Royal Rumble Match Vengeance - Mini-Tournament Survivor Series - 10 Man Elimination Match No Mercy - Triple Threat Match Unforgiven - Regular Match SummerSlam - Regular Match Invasion - 10 Man Tag King of the Ring - Triple Threat Match Judgement Day - Street Fight Backlash - All Titles on the Line Tag Match Wrestlemania - Street Fight No Way Out - Regular Match That is three non-gimmick matches over the past year. And those also had a high profile gimmick match on the card (No Way Out (HHH/Austin), Summerslam (RVD/Jeff, Taker&Kane/DDP&Kane), Unforgiven (RVD, Jericho)).
Guest AM The Kid Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 I hate gimmick matches, now every main event is No DQ though it seems.
Guest Ghast Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 Those aren't all gimmick matches Ramsus.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 No, the three I mentioned are not gimmick matches. The others are. Triple Threat Matches are gimmick matches. Street Fights are gimmick matches. Elimination matches are gimmick matches. Tournaments are gimmicks. Multi-man tag matches are gimmick matches (hell, technically straight tag matches are gimmick matches).
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 It's true It's true
Guest Tony149 Posted February 17, 2002 Report Posted February 17, 2002 Wait a few months for main event gimmick matches. They need a break.
Guest RicFlairGlory Posted February 18, 2002 Report Posted February 18, 2002 yeah yeah anything that isnt a regular run of hte mill boring "smarks love workrate" shitfest is a gimmick match
Guest The Vanilla Midget Posted February 18, 2002 Report Posted February 18, 2002 they just need to take time off to get the gimmic over again. ladder matches were very much in vogue through latter 2001, and now we probably wont see another for a few months in order to get it back over as a gimmic. and just because a triple threat isnt a flaming tables coated in barbwire deathmatch or some such nonsense, doesnt make it a gimmic match. also these match types should really only be used to blow off a fued, and with the exception of the angle/austin fued, every main event fued has been aborted too soon to warrant a blowoff. rock/jericho *could* have used one at the runmble, but it wasnt needed, as interest in the match was high already, and there was already a gimmic main in the rumble.
Guest Some Guy Posted February 18, 2002 Report Posted February 18, 2002 There shouldn' be a ladder match until SummerSlam at the earlist, that gimmick is played out now, there were probably ten last year including PPVs and TV. HIAC should only be used when there is a really hot feud that needs to end and there are two guys who will bump like HBK to get the match over. The no dq stips that seem to be in every PPV main event are ok but there are always re bumps and guys grabbing the ropes to break holds and other logic gaps. And finaly WWF cage matches suck as a general rule, they should use the "bar" cage to differeniate them from HIAC and for easier viewing.
Guest Tony149 Posted February 18, 2002 Report Posted February 18, 2002 I agree. The ladder match shouldn't return until around/after Summerslam. The WWF has done a good job of not overexposing the HIAC.
