I can't figure out who's the father of some of these characters:

Who is the father of Laurie Strode's son John Tate and her daughter Jamie Strode?

Also who is John Connor's father? Could it be Reese?

Reese was a soldier in John Connor's army... IN THE DISTANT FUTURE. Reese impregnated Sarah and then died... IN THE PRESENT (mid 80's). Connor is older than Reese... BECAUSE REESE WAS BORN IN THE FUTURE, AND JOHN WAS BORN IN THE MID 80'S. Why is this so hard to understand?

 

Anyway, the novelization of the movie contains a few visions that Sarah has in the asylum that say, quite clearly, that Reese was the father.

Let's go through this very slowly and thoroughly:

 

1. Robots take over the earth in the future, and the humans fight back with John Connor as their leader.

 

2. In the future, the machines send a Terminator back through time to the mid-80s to kill John's mother Sarah before John is ever born, to prevent the human leader from ever having existed.

 

3. The human forces in the future send Reese, a solider under John's command, back through time to the mid-80s to save Sarah from the Terminator.

 

4. In the mid-80s, Reese has sex with Sarah Connor, resulting in her becoming pregnant with the fetus which will eventually become John Connor.

 

5. Several years into the future, while John is still a young man, somewhere on earth baby Reese is born to parents unknown. In the apocalyptic future, this child would eventually grow up to be a soldier in the human army.

You have to remember that T2 does not take place in 1991, when the movie was released in theatres, but in 1994 or 1995. The first film takes place in 1984 (the cops confirm it in T2), and the second film is roughly ten years later.

 

Kyle Reese specifically tells Sarah in T2 that 'our son' is in danger, and John later tells the Terminator that he sent his father back in time to protect Sarah right before they realize that Sarah is going to kill Dyson.

In the book version, it's insinuated that John Connor hand-picked Reese to go back because he did know that he was his father.

Reese was born in, I dunno, say 2005, making him roughly 20 years younger than John. Later on in the future (say, 2030), he gets sent back to 1984, where he gets it on with waitress Sarah Connor. He then dies. So Reese's timeline goes like this:

2005: born

2005-2030: grows up, becomes a soldier in John Connor's army against the robots

2030: is sent back to 1984

1984: becomes John Connor's father, then dies

This is where you start getting into time paradoxes and tedious ways of explaining them away. Just say "yeah, he was his father all along" and try not to worry about it too much.

So basically he could see his tombstone while he was growing up and know when he was going to die. But then how could he be dead while living and...

Skynet does not know anything about John's father, and nothing about his mother except her name and the city she lived in. So the Terminator in the first movie would not have known. John would have had to have told the second Terminator when he had him reprogrammed to protect himself as a kid.
