Rey Mysterio Jr. questions!

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

I have a few questions for you guys about our favorite 'lil guy, lol. Here we go...

1) In terms of Mexican wrestling tradition, I was under the impression that once a latino star lost their mask, and was "shamed" by their face being revealed, I thought that they were not to have the mask back on as it was before. Yes, I know this is WWE, I know he lost it in WCW and not Mexico, but still, wouldn't some in Mexico look down on Mysterio? Or am I just crazy for thinking that they think like this?

2) Who do you feel will be the guy to unmask in WWE? We know it will more than likely happen, so who will it be?

3) Do you feel that Kurt Angle should allow Mysterio to go over him, in hopes of getting Rey Rey that much more over with the crowd, and if not go over him totally, just have Angle just BARELY defeat the masked man.

4) Should Rey be ONLY in singles Cruiserweight matches, or do you see him possibly teaming with Kidman to go after the Tag Straps?

...just wondering, that's all!

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

In the Rey Misterio Jr Shoot Interview he apparently said that people back home in Mexico hated the fact that he took off the mask. His mask in particular had tradition as his uncle wore a similar one.

"2) Who do you feel will be the guy to unmask in WWE? We know it will more than likely happen, so who will it be?"

Well, Nash did it before. Maybe Noble and Nidia.

"3) Do you feel that Kurt Angle should allow Mysterio to go over him, in hopes of getting Rey Rey that much more over with the crowd, and if not go over him totally, just have Angle just BARELY defeat the masked man. "

Il leave that to AngleSault

"4) Should Rey be ONLY in singles Cruiserweight matches, or do you see him possibly teaming with Kidman to go after the Tag Straps?"

Id say singles for now, as the cruiserweight division really needs a star like Rey.

1) Lossing your mask is a pretty big deal, and putting on another mask is disshonerable, definately. But, I don't think Rey really gives a shit, honestly. I mean, once you've lost your mask to Kevin Nash in a tag match, I think you've already reached the point of no return, so to speak.

2) They shouldn't unmask him. For all of Tony's talk that "Rey Jr.'s career TOOK OFF, after he lost his mask" it did nothing but kill the allure of a masked wrestler and made him into Konnan light. If he just HAS to be de-masked, though, I would say Eddy or Chavo should be the ones to do it. Their rudo skills are unbeatable.

3) I think Rey should be kept out of the heavies, for sure. For a Cruiser division to work, it has to exist on it's own, away from the heavyweights so that they can get over on their own merrits, not "upsetting" big guys. Rey should be the guy they build the division around, so no, he should be kept away from Angle, or any other heayweight, for that matter.

4) If the Cruiserweight division fails, then that would be the best alternative. If they're serious about pushing it and making Rey the centerpiece, he and Kidman should only team against other Cruisers. Again, they need to be kept seperate.

1. it is a big deal, but it looks like money talks

2. Rey Misterio Jr should never ever again lose the mask as long he is still employed with WWE, the masks gives him more character than say just being another stereo typical Mexican talking with a bad accent and pretending to be a gangster or juggling oranges.

3. that match would be so entertaining but it should be 2/3 falls with Angle winning one of them.

4. If he wins the tag team titles with Kidman than that would mean he would be only on Smackdown, I dislike that since Time F'N Warner Cable does not support UPN over here. But having Rey Misterio Jr as a double champion would be a great way to start his monster push.

razazteca: But how long would a monster push of Rey last? There's always a "little guy in the land of the giants" push where they take a jr. and put him with the heavies, but why Rey? Those pushes never last long, and the Cruiser division NEEDS Rey to succeed. Unless he becomes too big a star, I say keep in with the Cruisers, and them alone.

If anyone would unmask Rey.........it will end up being Triple H.....

HHH - "No one wears masks in the WWE...except Steph and that is only makeup..."

Steph - "What did you say?"

HHH - "I said bury Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle" :poses, spits water:

This is what I would do with Rey Misterio Jr's monster push

1. Start out working the cruiserweight division working with the usual people like Hurricane, Chavo, Jamie, Kidman for awhile have Rey win the title and defend it on a regular basis

2. After about a month within the Cruiserweight title reign, start tag team with Kidman or whoever works good with Misterio, have matches against other Cruiserweights tag teams, them venture into middleweights if you will with tag team matches against the Canadians, Tajeri, Kurt Angle. Win the tag team belts from someone other than Billy & Chuck.

3. Venture into singles matches that with Canadians, Tajeri, Angle that will result from turning on tag partner or run ins or whatever

4. Main Event PPV against Angle in a 2/3 falls 30 minute match

5. Venture into RAW since the Split is meaningless any way and start having matches against Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Beniot, RVD, Spike Dudley

6. Survivor Series style match with Canadians, Tajeri, Kurt Angle, Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Beniot, RVD as Main Event......Rey Misterio vs Eddy Guerero would be the last 2 remaining.

Rey should NEVER fight the heavyweights. As soon as he is in their with them, he will look so small, lose any aura he may have had and be just another small guy in a WWE that doesn't push small guys. Bring in a ton of cruisers, and let them be a show within the show. Thats how they are used best.

Well you can let Rey Jr. face some of the heavier wrestlers like Lance Storm, RVD, Edge, Angle, Jericho, Benoit, and they'll be some great matches.

But with the solid cruiserweights there is no need.

Though my plans of seeing Rey vs TAKA went down the shitter, and same thing with Kai En Tai DX

That's all fine and good for fantasy booking, and all, but obviously that's not going to happen. Angle main eventing is a rarity these days, let alone Rey and Angle main eventing. Also, who's to say Rey even gets over enough to deserve anything near that push? Rey's good, but not as good as he used to be and I don't see him ever being that good again. Also, once he ventures into even the "middleweights" it becomes a "Cruiserweight Vs. heavyweight" type situation (unless they're jobbers like the Canadians, at which point it makes Rey look lower if he jobs to them) and it just hurts his credibility in the long run.

I would have Rey come in and slowly build him up by working six man tags, maybe even some eight-man tags, if they have enough guys and the balls to get behind the division. Let him do his thing and hopefully stand out from everyone else to the point that he really starts to get over. I would give him a few singles wins over his Cruiser peers, too (not for the title, of course) just to re-enforce his status as a big deal. Then, put him in a chase for the title. Maybe make a match with Noble with Nidia barred from ringside. Eventually, he can get the title, and keep it for at least a few months, but he should defend it frequently to keep it fresh. Then he can form a tag team/alliance with Kidman where they would back each other up and team together every so often. After this gets burned out, have Kidman turn on and put them in a blood feud over the title. Then, and only then, should they flirt with the idea of de-masking him (have Kidman beat him for the title and then have the rematch be title Vs. mask), and even then I don't they ever should. I could see this happening, and I believe if they did it, Rey would get over.

1) The people in Mexico did look down at Rey after he was demaskd

2) Rey shouldn't be unmasked at all. I don't want to see the second coming of Mini-Konann

3) a Rey/Angle match would be interesting

4) Rey should only be with cruiserweights, but it's passable if he occsasionally goes against the smaller heavyweights (Angle, Jericho, Benoit, Booker). It would really look stupid having him go over someone much bigger than him, like Bradshaw or Kane.

Cruisers in cruiser matches. If Jericho wants to DO a cruiser match, or eddy or someone, fine. But I can't see Rey doing a heavy match. I don't LIKE to see Spike fighting them. And BTW if spike ever gets the cruiser title (again?) without showing some massive sort of improvement (or at least 4 random ass topes ;)) I'll be pissed ...

j/k about the topes he shouldn't get it at all, jeff would be pushing it. We need cruisers not bumpers.

1. I'll just say Rey better have security or stay at home if the WWE runs it's supposed show in Mexico.

1). It is supposedly a big deal, and many people did look a bit down on him. (Least I've heard).

2). Keep the mask, I want him to wear that mask until he retires.

3). Yeah he should, it'd be cool...

4). Stay single.

with all of the talent in the WWE there is no reason why Rey Misterio should ever, ever, ever have to wrestle the David vs Goliath giant killer matches in the WWE.

As for Rey Misterio Jr main eventing will, it could happen on Raw or Smackdown but I seriously doubt it will ever happen on a PPV as I wish it would. I understand that there is a stigma on they style that Rey Misterio Jr works as being the flippy floppy style that some just don't like, but if Jeff Hardy can get a main event title shot on Raw why can't Rey Jr do the same maybe Rey Jr vs RVD for IC or Rey Jr vs Guerrero.

Proper build up of Rey Misterio Jr can get him over but of course this is WWE, Vince McMahon's company, so you can only expect the worst and hope for a 10 minute match.

When Rey starts getting over, a heel HHH will probably toss him around like a doll for 10 minutes before totally destroying any credibility the guy has left. Stay away from HHH Rey!!!!

Rey was part of the CMLL Vs La Familia de Tijuana on 2/11/01 in Mexico and he wrestled maskless and as a face. I dont think they Mexican fans are THAT bothered anymore. Since goin to America Juventud and Psicosis have also been de-masked, I think the mexican fans have accepted it.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I was just wondering what you thought! Now, I understand they look down on someone when they loose a mask, but what about when they put it back on like Rey will be doing, do they look down on that even more, or does it restore that wrestler in their eyes?

Mark my words, Rey Mysterio will be a HUGE face, and he will be a #1 guy in time. Not in terms of being a world champ, but he will be a huge assent to the company, which will help make WWE that much fresher, and will make them that much more money.

That's not the problem, putting the mask back on and wrestling with in in WWE is.
