Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted July 2, 2002 We always go on about how precious things like heat, character, and even a name can be around here. So I figure this may be more important than it seems at first glance. I remember hearing way back when Benoit was called the Canadian Crippler. It's snazzy & catchy, and the "Crippler" part kind of hinted at his use of in-ring psychology, such as working over an arm or a leg. And then, in their last chance to piss on the WWF, WCW told Vince he couldn't use this nickname, and thus Benoit was given the nick of "The Rabid Wolverine." This name didn't sound as good to me, since Wolverines (especially rabid ones) aren't exactly known for finesse or anything, but just tearing and biting and clawing into their opponents. But it caught on as well anyway. And then, now that Vince owns everything WCW-related, what happens? "The Crippler" appears in Benoit's latest entrance video. But JR still drones on about "that rabid wolverine." Much like some other things in the WWF (Edge's finisher *cough*), somebody upstairs can't decide on what name to use. If WWF were to settle on one name, which one do you wish they would use?

Guest Flyboy Report post Posted July 2, 2002 I guess I'm of the few who likes "The Rapid Wolverine"... Although, "The Crippling Wolverine" wouldn't be so bad.... wait... yeah, it would.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted July 2, 2002 I'm a bigger fan of The Rabid Wolverine nickname, it denotes more of a smaller sized killing machine, which fits Benoit pretty well. I mean honestly, a "Candian Crippler"? Who cares if he is a Crippler from Canada? Isn't the Crippler part what you really need to know? I couldn't care less if the guy putting me in a wheelchair say "Eh" a lot and salutes a Mapleleaf.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted July 3, 2002 They don't really bill him as the Canadian Crippler. Most of the time I've just seen him as "The Crippler".
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted July 3, 2002 when he was in wcw he was known as the canadian crippler wasn't he? i thought it was only after his entrance into the wwf that he dropped the canadian part of his name. the wwf never really seemed to high on calling benoit the crippler though, and always tried to make rabid volverine stuck, probably because it was a wcw created name. Guest TheSmarkzone Report post Posted July 3, 2002 I like both and he can keep both. It's not like he has to have one nickname. Look at these guys: HHH: The Game/The Cerebral Assassin Rock: The Great One/The People's Champ/The Brahma Bull SCSA: The Rattlesnake/The Bionic Redneck/The Toughest S.O.B. Undertaker: The Phenom/The American Badass/The Man From The Dark Side/Big Evil/Red Devil/The Deadman/Deadman Inc.
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted July 3, 2002 I prefer the "Crippler." I don't want the hear this "Canadian Crippler" bullshit.
Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted July 3, 2002 Austin had a new nickname every time the WWF needed a new t-shirt, basically. I prefer just "The Crippler", BTW.

Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted July 3, 2002 I like them both but I think the Canadian Crippler would give him a more fearsome identity. There's already the Brahma Bull, the Rattlesnake, and the Cereberal Assasin. Triple H's is over and he's called an assasin. I think the Canadian Crippler would be awesome for his new moniker...... Didn't he get the name in ECW after killing Sabu? And I definitely remember Benoit being called the Wolverine in WCW.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted July 3, 2002 Just "The Crippler" would be best. "Didn't he get the name in ECW after killing Sabu? And I definitely remember Benoit being called the Wolverine in WCW." Benoit did get the name Crippler in ECW after dropping Sabu on his head and damaging his neck. When Benoit went to WCW he kept the nickname "The Crippler" but would also sometimes be called "The Wolverine" in the same way that Bret Hart was "The Hitman" and "Excellence Of Excecution"
Guest Sakura Report post Posted July 3, 2002 Benoit has always been called "The Crippler" in WWE. The Crippler part of his tron vid has been in since the beginning. They just use Wolverine more. Anyone remember the short lived "Wolverine Machine" nickname Ross tried to put over?
