Anchor Bay re-releasing "Parasite"

Recommended Posts

Guest evenflowDDT

Hey, I was checking Anchor Bay's new horror releases to see if anything new was coming, and the only title I recognized was Parasite, a Charles Band '80s film that is most famous for being Demi Moore's first starring role. Now, normally this would mean nothing to me, except the movie's already been out for years on DVD courtesy of a re-release from Band's own Full Moon Pictures. As far as I know, that version is still in print (I just picked it up yesterday at Suncoast), so... is Demi Moore really THAT popular that Anchor Bay felt the film warranted a re-release? I didn't think anybody cared about her anymore, since her last major role was Deconstructing Harry, and that was 5 years ago.

Anchor Bay doesn't need a reason to re-release an obscure movie. The Full Moon DVD of Parasite sucks ass btw, so I may pick up the AB version. It's a guilty pleasure of mine.

As for not recognizing any other titles, what about The AntiChrist a.k.a. The Tempter, or Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3???

I was thinking the same thing, C.H.U.D. Having gotten into the Sleepaway craze only a few years ago, the only copies I have of Sleepaway Camp 2 and 3 are because my friend copied rental copies for me. I know they planned on fall 2002 releases for the DVD's, hopefully they haven't gotten pushed back.

Speaking of Sleepaway...anyone heard anything new on the sequel? It's listing has been removed from IMDB! Last thing I had heard was that Nelly, Vincent Pastore from The Sopranos, and one of the kids from MTV's 2Gether had signed on for roles.

personally i like demi moore. i think she can act and she does have a lot of talent so who knows where she's been for the past five years. i'm not really into seeing any of her old crappy work but if she was in something new that came out i would go and see it.

They haven't. According to Anchor Bay's website, the release date for both of them is August 20th.

Well, I've heard of Sleepaway Camp, but I didn't know there were any sequels to it.

And as for Full Moon's DVD version of Parasite sucking, the only difference between the two discs is that Anchor Bay's is in 16:9 anamorphic. Granted, that's no little difference, but since that's the only extra, I wouldn't consider that enough to warrant an upgrade (especially since the cost difference is $10). I'm kinda pissed about Full Moon's version not having the Charles Band commentary listed on the cover (unless it's an easter egg, which I doubt), but their disc has more trailers.

If Anchor Bay wants to put out an early Charles Band offering, why not Creepozoids, which has yet to see a release from Full Moon, or Dolls?

I'd love to see Dolls on DVD. As for other Charles Band movies that need to be on DVD, what about From Beyond, Prison and Ghost Town?

Yea, but if it were up to me, Anchor Bay would release a Chopping Mall special edition DVD with 16:9 anamorphic and commentary track.

Q: With "Chopping Mall" being released soon to DVD, what all is planned as extras?

A: I don't know any more about the extras exept that we did the commentary--me, Barbara, Jim and Steve Mitchell just gabbing and goofing around, telling stories about life on the set.

That was from a December 2000 interview with Kelli Maroney. And yet somewhere along the line it never happened... more proof that the apocalypse went and gone and we are, in fact, living in hell.
