Guest LJSexay Report post Posted July 3, 2002 If the smark way is more workrate related, less skits, it CAN work yes, however, if they make the transition slow, so that the marks, casual fans, can get used to it and appreciate it well.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 3, 2002 If marks can be trained one way, why can't they be conditioned to the other way?
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted July 4, 2002 I think it's true what was said about that people on this board hold themselves and their smarkdom far too high.. Just like Jericho himself said, everyone here thinks they're "smart" but really everyone here are just marks. My friend, who absolutely LOATHES wrestling, he hates it and thinks it's the "stupidest thing ever" and "it's soooo fake". Before we start bashing him, consider that it's exactly these kinds of people that at least need to be wavered to "Oh, WWF.. That shit's alright, it's cool." in order for the next wrestling boom to begin. I forced him to watch the last 30 minutes of RAW a couple weeks ago (we always play at this arcade that's open late at ngiht after I'm done with my rasslin fix), and he, who never watches wrestling, predicted everything and anything Vince said or did, was bored to death in the nWo-Booker/Goldust match ("jesus that Big Show guy is fuckin huge though"), but ironically enough, in the Brock/RVD main event, he was very impressed by Brock's shouldercharges ("Damn, those look convincing!"), and RVD's highspots ("Whoa!"). So I'd say maybe the WWF is doing the right thing, but one thing they defintiely gotta do is kill this "nostalgia" factor.. A lot of people have never seen wrestling when they were young, and even if they have, they see guys like Flair and Hogan way past their prime and go "Damn what are they still doing taking up time on the TV show? Isn't there anyone else who can put on a better match?" If that doesn't show that the only difference between smarks and marks is what we get to read on the internet due to our obsession with wrestling, then I'm not sure what else will.
