Help! I'm Confused!

Recommended Posts

All over the internet, there is some story or another of some wrestler holding down another wrestler or refusing to put him over. If not that,. then there are complaints that so-and-so is not a main eventer yet. However, it is not very clear what is meant by being "held down" or "put over". The definition of "main eventer" is also nebulous. Is there a general consensus on what the terms mean, or does everyone have a different view of what constitutes a main eventer and being held down?

From my understanding, "held down" means not being put in a prominent or important program in order to kill your heat and sucess, or if being put in an important program, made to look stupid and inferior throughout the whole thing. "Put over" just means losing to. "Main Eventer" is someone viewed as a top guy, capable of main eventing PPVs and holding the World Title.

By those definitions, RVD, Booker T, Chris Beniot are already main eventers and Triple H and Test are the ones being held down. Very strange. Most internet fans see it the other way around.

Remember....definitions vary defending on who we hate and who we love....

I swear every WEEK there is a new guy asking someone to explain putting over or being held down. Look it up by reading posts and seeing what these opinion statements have in common. It's pretty damn obvious. You either posted too soon without being knowledgable enough to have intelligent conversation here, or you are bringing up a tired old point. Most of us on this board are sick of hearing about HHH holding down and Jericho not being put over. My personal opinions aside, it needs to die. If you are posting just to try, like plenty before you, to prove those who talk of this twrong using exact terms, etc. Stop. If you truly need clarification of this, why don't you read up on what has been going on here, get caught up, and then post. Enough with this ridiculous back and forth arguing about the same old shit.

Image won't work for me because I have a scout program on my computer here at work. Half the images don't come through. How about a word description?
