Guest DKnez Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 I think Summerslam 99 is way overrated. I just watched it the other day and everything is either okay or bad. Barely Legal is overated too. The six man tag match is awesome though. WM 15. But nobody really likes that PPV. KOTR 93. If it wasn't for Bret Hart there wouldn't be a KOTR anymore.

Guest dreamer420 Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 the thing about most ppv's i have seen is they all have something about them that makes me love them. the most overrated one IMO is probably wrestlemania 3. the savage/steamboat match was an instant classic and hogan/andre was huge for historical reasons but other than that it was mostly crap and filler.

WM 3 had several good matches and 1 classic, but overall it was an average show. WM 4 was filler all around. WM 5 is VERY over-rated, seeing only 2 or 3 matches were actually really good. WM 6 has been mentioned, 7 was filler surrounding 2 oe 3 good matches like WM 5. But the REAL Over Rated PPV is Summerslam 1998. I don't know why but whenever I watch it I only can watch Shamrock/Owen, Rock/HHH without getting bored.

The opener is pretty good, as is the main event and the two matches you mentioned.
Guest dreamer420 Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 summerslam 98 has one of the hottest openers ever. x-pac and jarrett was watchable. the ladder match with hhh and rocky was amazing as was the title match between austin and taker. the only letdown was the 2 on 1 beating of mick foley by the new age outlaws.

WM10 had two classics that saved it though.

Xpac vs. Jarrett i don't rememebr, but anything with Southern Justice in it isnt that great. Oddities vs. Kai en Tai: need i say more Mero/Jacqueline vs. Sable/Edge: Just to put Edge over on his PPV debut, although he saved the match from crapville. Austin/UT: And they still are (well were now) fighting. NAO vs. Mankind: Fun to watch for a 5 minute squash of a legend. HHH/Rock: Great but doesnt compare to HBK/Ramon Shamrock/Owen: Great Match as well. I know I'm biased sometimes but I think i was looknig forward to SSlam 98 and was let down. (I was hoping for a REAL tag team title match cause Kane & Mankind vs. NAO in a street fight woulda ruled, ok it was a Falls Anywhere match ,same thing)

It has a ladder match that MADE Rock and HHH, a great opener with Val and DLo, a hot match with Jarrett and XPac, an awesome main event and it's just a great fun show to watch. MSG shows rule!!! I think WMIV is overrated- everyone seems to have a soft spot for it. I thought it sucked

HHH/Owen was good, and the main event was good considering it was basically two cripples, but there are some serious problems on the card. Rock/Shamrock (no comparison to KOTR 98), The Battle Royal and Kane/Taker all suck. NAO/Hardcore Legends is one of the most overrated matches ever, and the LHW Championship paled in comparison to what WCW was doing on Nitro, let alone their own PPVs. The show was decent, but it is nowhere near the top Wrestlemanias. Superbrawl a month earlier was better.

But Kane-Taker is pretty sweet. The pre-match video package and the entrances all got me pumped and I think both guys busted ass and told quite a story and the kicking out of finishers built great drama. I was on the edge of my seat wondering if the Deadman's streak would end. Battle royal sucks no argument there. Rock-Shamrock is a pretty short fun match and the post-match stuff was awesome. The light heavyweight match was a nice change of pace from the card and it was kept short. I'm watching Superbrawl right now and it does kick a lot of ass but it just doesn't have that epic fell that XIV had.

Like nwoscorpion, I was really excited to see the PPV (the build was one of the best ever), but the show was a let down overrall. D'Lo and Val...it was ok, but the ending was bad. Oddities match sucked. Edge/Sabe Vs Mero/Jackie was a solid match, but it never went anywhere. I like X-Pac and Jarrett. Shamrock and Owen was good... I've got mixed feelings about the Tag Title squash, because I was at the Raw where Mankind turned on Kane and thought it was the best show I'd ever been to, but why the fuck would they turn him knowing that the team already had a title defense at the next PPV? HHH and Rock...I dunno. People rate it as one of the top SS matches of all time, but I was bored with the thing. I really couldn't get into it until JR said something like "Oh would you look at these 2 incredible athletes!!!!!!!!!" and started screaming towards the end of the match. Nice finish though. And Taker Vs Austin is the most overrated match I've ever seen. I honestly think people are more in love with the hype around the match than the match itself. It was one of the most boring matches I've ever seen, and even Austin's said that he was off because Taker accidently headbutted him early in the match and knocked him silly. Then there was Taker's overrated table spot...would've been cool if the table actually broke (I'll give him credit for the effort though). And I thought the ending was weak too. After all the build-up with Kane...after it was over it was just like "That's it?" Considering how hyped I was to see this show (I was actually out of town for the original airing and stayed away from all wrestling related news just to keep the results from being spoiled), it was a major let down.

Rock/Shamrock was too short to give a good rating. NAO/Jack^Funk was fun, but pointless with the WRONG DUMPSTER finish Owen/HHH was good but AGAIN owen gets shafted
