Is Omori Any Good? He Is Getting NWA Title Shot

Recommended Posts

Guest BoboBrazil

On tonight's NWA:TNA ppv the NWA president announced that Omori would face the winner of Shamrock vs Malice, which happens tonight, on next weeks show for the NWA title. Is this guy any good? I haven't really heard anything about him.

He can be good, but usually if he has a puro god like Kawada or Kobashi in there with him. Usually works tag matches. He is so-so in singles.

Omori is a decent worker, but he's a tad over-rated because of his work with Takayama in Team No Fear. No Fear were a seriously over team who were pretty good in the ring. Because Takayama is such a sub-par worker, it made fans think that Omori was an excellent wrestler of Kawada's nature based on his carrying on Takayama.

Stuart (and myself to a degree) believe that Omori for all intents and purposes ought to be the GHC Champion right now, because Omori and Akiyama "grew up" together in the business. I think anyone is better than Ogawa, but I think Akiyama should still have it.

That statement is dead on. BTW Tiger, are you the same Black Tiger who posts tape reviews over on Pegasus Kid's site?

Takao Omori really never impressed me all that much in the ring, but I did enjoy the miracle that Kobashi pulled out of him on April 15, 2000 in the Carnival finals (****).

I've only seen a few tags from when he was Monaukea Mossman, so I have no clue how he is now. He seemed solid before, but nothing too amazing. I know he's American and everything, but why on earth would they give him a title shot? He's never even made it big in AJPW, let alone done anything to get noticed in America.

Yes, I have often mixed the two up, for some reason. Doh.

As for Omori, I've only seen 12/00 Vs. Hashimoto, and that was the match were Hash apparently went into business for himself and Omori had to call for the finish early. And indeed, the match was all Hash kicking the shit out of poor Takao with his usual sickeningly-stiff barrage of chops and kicks, so I have no idea how good Omori is in a regular situation.

Yes, he's now known as Taiyo Kea, but was called Maunukea Mossman before.

What does Taiyo Kea have to do with this? The thread is about Takao Omori

Hash was being a BIG TIME asshole in that match against Omori. Omori gave him a stiff shot, and Hash started freaking out with kicks, etc. Bad one sided squash.

Yeah, and the fact that OMORI of all people ended up getting heat for it puzzles me to this day. I mean, the fans were really into him before the match started and when it ended you could just feel their dissapointment at how underwelming a match it was and how easilly Omori went down. What more could he have done? Hash was beating the living piss out of the poor guy. At least he had the balls to stay in the ring with Hash and take the sickening Sheer-drop Brainbuster to finish the match. I think most guys would have run away in fear of getting their teeth knocked out if they had to deal with Hashimoto the way he was behaving that day. What a head-case.

Omori seems ok from what i've seen, but he's one of those guys that geniunely looks like a jobber. I've only seen stuff from 95 tho, has he improved?
