And kimchee is Korean. that brings up an interesting point, how much Chinese food is really Chinese. Me personally, I like General Tsao's and Sesame chicken. Also lo mein, and beef and broccoli. My mom makes this kick ass chicken dish called chicken hoisin which is a lot like cashew chicken. Does anyone know if these dishes are authentic
Guest starvenger Report post Posted July 23, 2002 Well, a lot of Chinese-American food is basically Chinese food altered to suit North American tastes. But as far as I know the following were created in the US: - Egg Rolls - Chop Suey - Chow Mein (the one you find at fast food places) - Egg Foo Yung - Chicken Balls and just about anything that's deep fried with batter. As for whether everything else is "authentic"... I suppose it doesn't really matter, as long as you like the stuff.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted July 25, 2002 hewwo this is city wok...oh sorry where was i...ah yes I loves me some General Tsao's Chicken and i literally eat a plate full at every Chinese buffet i go to. Sweet n Sour Chicken: the deep fried balls of chicken that you dip in sweet n sour sauce. I try to not eat too much of it at buffets because the breading fills you up. Sesame Chicken: It's good but it's basically just General Tsao's without the kick so i usually just eat General Tsao's instead. I don't know if anyone knows what i'm talking about but i love the Fried Doughnuts at Chinese Buffets. They are butterly tasting fried balls of dough with a heavy sprinkling of sugar on the outside.
