Most Underrated PPV'S

Recommended Posts

Guest DKnez

Since in the overrated column somebody kinda started this I might as well make one.

No Way Out 98- It's not that spectacular but theres nothing really bad and its an enjoyable waste of 2 and a half hours. Plus the wild main event brawl is pretty good.

Fully Loaded 99 has four 3 star plus matched (EdgevsJarret, HardyzvsAcolytes,HHHvsRock,SnowvsBossman) and the only thing that sucked was the iron man match.

I really enjoyed KOTR 01 too with the brutal street fight.

Starrcade 1995- its a great PPV with Eddy v. Ohtani!~

Beware of Dog- Second best strap match EVER.

Souled Out- one of the best WCW PPVs with three **** matches.

Agreed on Summerslam 1993- really fun show.

Luger v. Yoko wasnt half bad- I actually saw them do pretty much the same match in Memphis a few weeks before.

For some reason, I loved KOTR 99 but everyone else hated it. The wrestling wasn't all that good, but it was pretty damn entertaining to me.

First, the X-Pac/Hardcore match...which was cool because of the Hardcore Holly interview after the match.

Terry Taylor: Hardcore, you just cost yourself the KOTR!

Holly: Who in the hell are you?

TT: I'm Terry Taylor!

Holly: Who cares?

Hardcore was funny as hell back then.

Then HBK played a major role in the show, which is part of the reason I liked it so much (although could somebody explain of Vince "getting the better" of Shawn in that in-ring promo? I never really understood that)

Solid Chyna match. She lost, but as long as she has 8 of my 16 kids, it'll be all good.

JR: "Oh here comes Triple H! What a no good, lousy son of a bitch!"

That line MADE the whole PPV. That and the ladder match was good...even though they never really explained who raised the briefcase. And another Ross quote that I found funny...

JR: "SHANE!!!! WHO IS YOUR DADDY?!?!?!!?"

Like I said, the wrestling wasn't good...and someone thought it'd be funny to put the crown on Billy, but besides that, I liked the show.

I'd have to go with IYH 16: Canadian Stampede, because [comparatively] so few people have actually seen it.

Thanks,

Andy

St. Valentine's Day Massacre has good wrestling from an error known for bad wrestling.

Most of the early Survivor Series PPV's get bad raps, but I found all of em enjoyable, mainly cause I enjoyed the elimanation rules concept.

royal rumble '01 was kind of lost in the shuffle after the 2 other great shows after it (no way out and wrestlemania), but i STILL maintain that it's the best ppv of 2001 and probably my favorite ppv ever. only the vignettes and the women's title match really sucked, & the only other match on the card i wouldn't give at least **** to was E&C/dudleys. trips/angle is a wonderful match & very underrated (probably due to the lack of crowd heat), the rumble itself was awesome (drew carey's appearance notwithstanding) with kane going 55 minutes, the ladder match was about a sliver away from being the match of the year.

no way out overshadowed it because of rock/angle and trips/austin (a match with an extremely inflated reputation). then wrestlemania overshadowed them both mostly because of TLC, benoit/angle & rock/austin (all pretty overrated in my opinion) and because the event was so big. no way out had some meaningless filler, wrestlemania had LOTS of filler than everyone conveniently seems to forget, but i think rumble '01 is about as close to 'all meat and no fat' as it gets.

Hmmm those first the three PPVS of 2001 are like the Holy Trinity of PPVs. I give them all Highest Recommendations. They just kept getting better and better. Well until Backlash

yeah, they fell HARD.

i'm trying to remember if they had 3 great ppv's in a row like that in 2000, but i don't think they did. rumble & no way out were fantastic, but the main event of WM kept it from greatness. blacklash & JD were fantastic again, but they really dropped the fucking ball at king of the ring (and it could've been the greatest king of the ring EVER). then 2 more with fully loaded & summerslam, but then they do the very mediocre unforgiven. and after no mercy, the ppv's aren't even worth mentioning.

shit, early 2001 could very well have been the greatest streak of pay-per-views ever. why can't i ever notice or appreciate shit like this until after it's already happened?

Not ONLY do Rumble, No Way Out, and WrestleMania kick all sorts of ass, I'd also mention that, in the same three months (well, counting Mania as March), WCW put on its final 3 PPVs (Sin, Superbrawl XI, Greed), and they all were very very decent, especially for WCW standards. The best WCW PPVs since Stampede '99*, and better IMO than the last 2 WWF PPVs, Survivor Series and Armageddon. Hot cruiserweight action, and a hot main event angle, and the NATURAL BORN THRILLERS~! all over the mid-cards. Greed might have been better than the last four WWF 2000 PPVs, actually.

*--One could argue that Spring Stampede 2000 was also a decent WCW PPV, of the "Survivor Series 1998" style of having a cool enough concept that it didn't really matter how shitty the matches were. I personally disagree, but to each his own.

I got one- 1992 they had RR, WM8 and Summ92.

You could also make an argument for 1991 with those three PPVs too, IMO.

Anyway, I think Survivor Series '89 is vastly underrated. Not so much from a wrestling standpoint, but it would probably take me a while to get tired of watching it. I particularly like the Heenan stuff, and the commentary was great, too.

am i the only one who liked spring stampede 2000. it took place 6 days after russo and bischoff took back control of the creative department and after they stripped all of the titles and setup tournament mathes between new blood and millionaire's club wrestlers.

Spring Stampede is one of those shows where the star ratings aren't very high (see my 411 rant) but it is fun show to watch.

I think having three tournaments really helped. So yea- I liked it.

Spring Stampede 99 is possibily the best WCW PPV ever, but usually people think of Slamboree 94 as the best.

Shit, I loved Royal Rumble, No Way Out, and Wrestlemania X-Seven but I gotta say that Wrestlemania X-Seven is the greatest if not the GREATEST pay-per-view of ALL TIME!

Damnit, I think this is the most underrated Wrestlemania of its day. It was exciting to see who was going to advance closer and closer to the title, and thankfully (to my eyes), it wasn't Hogan for once. I was so glad that night because one of my favorite matches (DiBiase vs. Savage) happened and Savage won (to my dismay, DiBiase Mark).......

i also liked the tournament from survivor series 98. none of the matches are brilliant or even any good (except for the finals) but a tournament setup is so exciting to watch on a pay per view.

Although I ALWAYS looked forward to watching WM 4, Overall its mediocre at best.

Plus 4 round tournaments suck if its in one night (meaning less time for matches to develope)

Souled Out '98 gets my vote. A great lucha match, Jericho at his best, Bret-Flair, and a great Benoit-Raven match make it one of my all-time favorites. I'm just pissed that the VCR messed up when I taped it so I only have like the first 90 minutes on tape.

Summerslam 1998. The promotion was crazy and all the matches were enjoyable. That PPV like made me obsessed with pro wrestling.
