I mean, his music and his outfit don't really go with Booker well. I mean, does he really need to wear facepaint? Anyways, how do you think Dustin's character should change?

Guest dreamer420 Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 fuck no he shouldn't change his gimmick. the goldust character is the only thing that has really worked for dustin in his career and he is start to get some fan support now. his segments with booker t have been the best parts of a lot of raw recently. he should be allowed to wrestle more too.

He's not really being his original character, it's becoming more like the real him. The same thing happened to Mick Foley when he was Mankind. You have a demented gimmick and eventually the real person comes out. I do think he will eventually complete the Foley compairison by becoming Dustin. It's going to happen eventually, it's just a matter of time. This whole thing reminds me of Rock N Sock anyways, except Booker can wrestle better than Rock. I just think the face paint, music, and name need to go. Maybe have him dress in all black but STILL do backstage skits. After all, he doesn't really need the face paint. I would love it if GTV came back, it could be used against the NWOld. Maybe with a new intial though.

Neither of those were himself.

To me, most of the humor in comes from the fact that Goldust has, easily, the MOST ridiculous appearance in the WWF, yet has some of the most "regular guy" line deliveries out of any of them. He never tries to sound intimidating...he just kinda talks. He's your weird buddy that wears gold paint. The fact that he's so bizarre yet so normal at the same time is what makes him work. Dustin Runnels, however, is a dopey southerner character. Oog. Anyone remembers the Dusty/Dustin vs. Ric Flair/David Flair match in WCW's dying days? Uuuughh...

Secondly, he isn't REALLY a Bible thumper as the WWF portrayed him as. Dustin Runnels IS Goldust and Dustin Runnels is the man who is being entertaining. So how can you say he is boring? THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON! Besides, like I said before, Goldust is suffering from Mick Foley syndrome. His true self is starting to emerge from his bizarre character. Frankly, if there were good wrestling on TV then these skits might not be so entertaining for us. But right now, with hardly any good wrestling, they are one of the only reasons we watch. Simply put, the Goldust character is dying. Think about it, Goldust was never about comedy, he was called the Bizarre One. This is NOT the same character. Like I said, it's Mick Foley syndrome. If he isn't going to play the real character than why should he dress like that at all? In the end, comedy gimmicks can only last for so long. Eventually fans want will want seriousness back. What happens to Dustin then? Think about it, look at the similarities between Mick and Dustin's gimmicks. Both started off as weird freaks, became faces, started acting funny, let their real personalities come out, and their characters started to fade. Hell, the same thing is happened to Kane and it has already happened to Taker. Dustin can't ride the Goldust gimmick for very much longer, its lost its original appeal and originality. Dustin, like Foley, could still have the same traits as his character, because his newest character is coming from his own personality.

I don't know about the music, I like it but it doesn't fit his current characters. I like the movie quotes he does and think those should stay. Just think of it like when Mankind started becoming more Foley. Is anyone else getting a Rock/Sock vibe from Book/Dust?

" Care to support that with some actual matches? Sure. The best of seven against Benoit, it wasn't Benoit carrying him, he did it on his own. Doesn't spit on his hand and knock people out the ring like an idiot. Doesn't have a wrestling move(the Spineronnie doesn't count)as lame as "The people's Elbow." Doesn't care about movies as much as wrestling. More experienced. Sells better. Can wrestle in a tag team as well as singles. Got over on his ring-work rather than repetitive catch phrases. Does the Rock's signature move a lot better. And I can go on...I have not against the Rock personally, but his lack of in-ring talent isn't very endearing. He's better off in Hollywood.

It's a move that pops the crowd and makes them happy. And Book is getting over on a catchphrase. SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKA C'mon, have you seen his "Sharpshooter"? Ugh. Booker got over in WCW without catchphrases, just because he uses one or two doesn't mean he gets over on them. Of course, the Rock is a barinchild of Russo, so he learned to talk better than wrestle. He has a lot of charisma but his in-ring talent leaves much to be desired. The People's Elbow is horrible at suspending disbelief and is no better than the worm, therefore it should not be used as a FINISHING move. Otherwise, it's okay. But let's not go off on a Book/Rock tangent, let's get back on topic.

There aren't many "loveable hicks". If the Goldust gimmick goes Dustin's popularity will be right behind it.

Rock's looks better, in my o-pinion. But, to keep this on topic, Goldust should remain Goldust. The comparisons to Foley are a good way to look at it - at first he was a weird freak who tore out his own hair, but then he just started playing himself. It looks to be the same way with Dust, and I for one want him to stay just as he is.
