Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 PEOPLE MARVELING OVER RVD by Dave Scherer Updated: 7/10/2002 2:29:14 PM A number of people backstage at TV the last few days were talking about the move that Rob Van Dam did Monday to Paul Heyman and how amazing it was. The move, which was incorrectly called a "Van Daminator" by the broadcasters on Monday, was close to a Van Terminator but technically not one of those either. In the past, when doing the Terminator, Rob had someone hold the chair for him when he did the move. On Monday, he did that himself, which is pretty damn amazing. People took notice. You also have to give props to Paul Heyman for taking the move. There's no easy way to protect yourself on that spot and no matter what you do, it hurts. Heyman laid there and took it like a pro. Guest CanadianHorseman Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 It's about bloody time! It's funny how Rob's been having consistently GREAT matches on television and PPV for nearly a year, but he only gets proper recognition when he redefines a move that was stolen from him by the Golden Child.
Guest the pinjockey Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Unless Vince was one of the people marveling over the move it is not going to matter. And Heyman would do anything I believe to get one of his creations over as the big star of the industry.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Hell, RVD hasn't even busted out his most awesome move......the sommersault into the 5th row! When he busts that out (dare I say vs. Brock at the PPV?) I will go insane from the markout.
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Hell, RVD hasn't even busted out his most awesome move......the sommersault into the 5th row! When he busts that out (dare I say vs. Brock at the PPV?) I will go insane from the markout. Oh man, he would be over crazy if he did that.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Funny, considering it's moves like the Van Terminator that lead to critism of RVD from the start. Whatever, I don't see him winning at the PPV anyway, so I don't think it really matters.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Well, the most impressive aspect of the Van Terminator on Raw is that for the first time it seemed like a plausible move. Before it was like a stunt that took forever to set up.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Hell, RVD hasn't even busted out his most awesome move......the sommersault into the 5th row! When he busts that out (dare I say vs. Brock at the PPV?) I will go insane from the markout. It would be awesome to see something like that in the WWF. However, I don't see it happening, for fear of an apathetic fan getting some of the impact.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I assume we won't see the 5th row sommersault plancha tope mexican backshoot thing because the collective orgasm of the crowd at the sight of it would shut the whole show down. And dammit, they SHOULD be impressed. He changed his positioning in mid air just to kick a chair into some old Jewish guy's face. Hell, they should be impressed with Heyman too, the man just took a better bump than 3/4s of the main event roster has in the past decade.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 what if they make a section nothing but plants, and RVD can dive into them
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 what if they make a section nothing but plants, and RVD can dive into them Well, with current ticket sales, they could do that, although it's counter productive and literally would cost them thousands in lost sales. How about a wrestler is paraded around the ring with lots of security aka Benoit @ the Eddy ladder match and then he goes flying off into the other guy and the rentacops?
Guest The Wicker Man Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 what if they make a section nothing but plants, and RVD can dive into them?? Are you suggesting the WWF use a false audience for one of their sequences? thats absurd!
Guest RickyChosyu Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Hell, they should be impressed with Heyman too, the man just took a better bump than 3/4s of the main event roster has in the past decade. It's statements like that which make the over-exagerative world go round.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I think the risk of the crowd being hurt is what makes it cool though. I mean, I saw Juvi bust out a sommersault in WCW where he just landed in the aisle.....crowd hardly even popped. There is something truly psychotic about a 235 lb. man flipping into the crowd.
Guest Harry Hood Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Especially if it was a soft leafy plant, like a long moss or fern. That way noone would get hurt!
Guest Cubbie78 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 So Rob has consistently had the match of the night at PPVs and hell RAW too since he came into the fed, great matches some, carried Taker, had a MOTYC with eddie, and he has to nearly kill himself to get noticed...? well thats just fucking great...
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Yeah...the irony is thick on this one. He has turned himself from a guy who misses spots to a guy who hits spots for no reason... Then from that to a guy who could hit his spots and learned to use them to put a match together... all within a year that he was the only ONLY member of the roster to maintain being over for the entire time (remember...Austin and Rock are/were out, Angle struggled for a short time after turning heel again...and even the HArdys bombed out when they went single in December...and Jericho was killed pre-Mania) BUT...it is a move that showcases what the WWE really hates about him that gets him over with the boys in the back. hmm... RVD will never be buried outright...I have no fear of that happening...he is the one thing that Heyman protects with all of his stroke (look at the rest of the former ECW guys...most of them deserve to be at the bottom and are lucky to be employed...but Ravens roll is screwed for example) But pinjockey is right...unless Vince cares...it doesn't matter at all. and I don't see him caring anytime soon. He feels RVD is worth enough to try and get Brock over...which is who Vince seems to think IS the next guy...so he knows RVD isn't worthless to him. I'm waiting to see what it takes for him to see RVD as a guy worth investing in...but I don't know what the guy can do. He is the most improved wrestler of the last year...no question. He's over everywhere...all the time... But Vince doesn't seem to like him enough to run with him. Whatever...Vince's attendance, ratings and buyrates are also down too.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Couldn't have said it better, bps. If it's not one thing with RVD, it's another. I really hope Vince can get his head out of his ass ,swallow his pride for one fucking second, and push someone that he didn't create from scratch or hard pushed to stardom. BTW, if RVD can hit his fifth row plancha and Brock can hit his shooting star press in their Vengeance match and make the spots work within the context of their match, potential MOTYC.
Guest Choken One Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 There is a difference in the ECW ringside and the WWe ringside. ECW had the steel bar barrier which you could move easily...The WWe barrier does not move quickly...As for the fans...Easily, you could have sec. push them back.
Guest Brian Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 The way the feuds playing out, with RVD really getting the big shot on Heyman, I wouldn't be surprised if RVD loses the intercontinental title at Vengeance only to beat Lesnar and get a knock at Heyman simultaneously in a match at RAW to determine the number one contender. Oh wait...too logical.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 The feud has been booked oddly. Brock has come out on top at the end of every show...thus RVD should win the ppv match. At least thus far. But that isn't going to happen...and I hope the WWE is smart enough not to do a DQ finish again so RVD can win...if they do that...people will never care enough about Brock for him to get over. What Brian said would rule though...if they did a double switch to put the IC title on Brock and get the title shot on the guy who IS over...that would make so much sense. Instead I think we'll see double champion Brock at SS...as a perfect example of if its not over push it as hard as you can until it is.
Guest Austin3164life Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Unless Vince was one of the people marveling over the move it is not going to matter. And Heyman would do anything I believe to get one of his creations over as the big star of the industry. I agree with this person's idea. If Vinny Mac himself was not impressed with this high spot, forget about seeing the Sommersault of Doom...... Vince: "Who does this punk think he is, Dynamite Kid?! He isn't WWF home grown talent. With that kind of stunt he can go straight to OVW. RVD screwed RVD....." HHH: "Couldn't agree more, Vince. I'm safe in the ring. Put him in a match with me and he wont fly anymore...." Vince: (Mumbling to himself) "This is the WWF, damnit....."
Guest Brian Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I don't think they'll put the IC title and world title together. It's extremely unlikely.
Guest NoCalMike Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Whether ya like him or hate him, RVD seems to be the one guy in the mid-upper card that can take it to the main-event level instantly. He is over almost no matter what he is involved in. We all know the history of him getting more face heat than the Rock in their match, etc......RVD is about to enter a crossroards period. The problem is, the fans WILL eventually get tired of RVD IF, IF, and I mean IF, Vince does not take RVD to the next step, and just keeps him jobbing everytime he gets to the ALMOST "ME" level. Like DangerousA said, Vince needs to swallow his fucking pride and just push the guy who got over BY HIMSELF.......
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 You would think given the ratings and attendance declines...that Vince would look at RVD as a godsend. A guy who stays over without a constant push...always has the crowd into his matches...and more often than not...has a good to very good match. Instead he looks the gift horse in the mouth...or worse uses him to put over a guy that Vince thinks *SHOULD* be over like RVD is. And this, I say, is why McMahon is no genius.
Guest NoCalMike Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I am wondering a bunch of current ME guys, are working against RVD, not just Triple H, but all of them, maybe they tell Vince stuff like, "he's not ready" or "he is too green" or "he is too risky" when the truth he, they don't want to be shown up or exposed as being boring compared to the newer generation of wrestlers. I know this sounds like another conspiracy theory, but it just boggles the mind how RVD is tearing shit up in WWE yet he seems to get demoted everytime he is ALMOST there.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Without creating a conspiracy theory... I have always said that RVD is more of a threat to take the spot of a top guy than anyone else on the roster. The Undertaker seems to have no problem not only working with him...but making him look damn good and ready to be a player. Then again...he's probably close to retirement. I hope he has hand picked RVD as the guy to replace him...because Taker and Heyman on his side will lead to a good spot.
Guest RobJohnstone Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Honestly, I cannot understand it, I am not going to disagree with you guys but from my perspective, he is better than he was, but still is a sloppy spot wrestler. If anyone gets moved up I would want benoit or eddy, eddy can wrestle, and when he wants is great on the mic, benoit can wrestler, but needs a mouthpiece. IMO those 2 get tenure over RVD, RVD needs a lot of polish before he goes to the showroom --Rob
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I haven't seen much sloppyness from RVD this calendar year.
