Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 WWE RUMORS MAKING THE ROUNDS by Dave Scherer As the name suggests, these are rumors, not factual stories, making the rounds. I want to start off by saying that this is just a a rumor, so please take it as such for now. There is a story making the rounds that WWE is looking to reduce their talent roster by 10 to 20 names. From what I am hearing, if this is true it would be from both the developmental and main rosters. WWE has a lot of people under contract that they don't use, so if this turns out to be true, it wouldn't shock me. When business turns soft, cuts have to be made. If this happens, it would come on the heels of the company approaching a number of wrestlers and asking them to lower their downside guarantee. At this point in time, it has not been confirmed to me by anyone in WWE management that cuts are coming, but it's a story that is out there right now. Credit: 1wrestling.com
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 The only way they could afford to drop 10-20 names is if they merged the rosters again.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Be funny if they dropped a bunch of guys and Jarrett picked them up and made them into "Superstars." Well, I can Dream right?
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 For the love of God drop the dead weight and merge the rosters. No more Faarooq, Mark Henry, Bossman or Albert. Except the only way that Bossman would be released is if he removed his mouth from Vince's cock, and I don't see that happening.
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 The only way they could afford to drop 10-20 names is if they merged the rosters again. I don't think so. I could probably come up with at least 10 guys they don't use that wouldn't effect the roster split at all... not counting the guys in OVW.
Guest Nevermortal Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 They could shave 10-20 off Smackdown easily. They've got like somewhere around 10 more people then Raw that suck. Then you clean the dead weight out of the Dev Territories. Easy.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Be funny if they dropped a bunch of guys and Jarrett picked them up and made them into "Superstars." Well, I can Dream right? Well, the WWE missed out on Lynn and the NWA is taking advantage. Although, Lynn was pretty well known before entering the NWA... but still..
Guest Flyboy Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 *gasps* Has the WWE start thinking like Risk/GenerationNever?!
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 They need to make some of those 20 names Useless Main Eventers and not worry so much about the OVW/HWA guys.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 People they should release: Jackqueline Justin Credible Spike Dudley Steven Richards Crash Holly Terri Chavo Guerrero Jr.(nothing against the guy, but it is clear they aren't going to do anything with him) Funaki(same as Chavo) Hugh Morrus Mark Henry Saturn Mike Awesome Haku Godfather There are 14 you could release with little to no effect on anything.

Spike Dudley takes great bumps, not to mention he gets decent pops. I wouldn't release him. Chavo can be used as a trainer or a wrestler. He's useful. Mike Awesome has potential, but I feel the WWE would waste it. Maybe it'd be best if they did release him so he could go to NWA:TNA and kill people with over the top Awesome Bombs to the outside. Heck, sign Tanaka too and I'll watch.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Spike Dudley takes great bumps, not to mention he gets decent pops. I wouldn't release him. Also, as useless as people like Spike may seem, there's always going to be the need for jobbers.
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Why should they release Mike Awesome? He's...awesome. If they should release any injured WCW guys, it should be Hugh Morrus or Chris "I Haven't Innovated Anything Since 1998" Kanyon.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Haku is a trainer in HWA right now.
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Haku is a trainer in HWA right now. Good Lord. I think I'd rather go to the Warrior University.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Hugh Morrus is one of the trainers for TE3, so I can't see him getting the boot. If they are serious about the Cruiser Div., I can't see Chavo getting let go.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I do think that should the WWE release some talent that the NWA will at least take a look at who they can grab. I mentioned in the NWA folder that Ron Waterman and Chad Collyer would probably be good acquisitions for them, as they can make them into stars. I wouldn't go picking up any of the dead weight for name value, because the NWA already has the Bagwells and Steiners of the world to put up with...why add the Godfathers and Hakus to that list. Should the WWE release any of it's better OVW/HWA guys, the NWA can easily pick them up, find a spot/gimmick for them, and push them on their way, thus creating "NWA brand stars". Vince did it for years with so called "WWF/E creations", so he may get a taste of his own medicine.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Why should they release Mike Awesome? He's...awesome. If they should release any injured WCW guys, it should be Hugh Morrus or Chris "I Haven't Innovated Anything Since 1998" Kanyon. Hugh isn't hurt. Release Kanyon? Yeah, OK JR like him, he's big, he can wrestle, he's got charisma, better than average talker, already has a catchphrase, and could easily hold the IC Title. Yeah, wise choice to cut...
Guest BionicRedneck Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Why should they release Mike Awesome? He's...awesome. If they should release any injured WCW guys, it should be Hugh Morrus or Chris "I Haven't Innovated Anything Since 1998" Kanyon. Awesome isn't actually Awesome. Think of one awesome match he's had that didn't include Masato Tanaka or a load of tables and chairs. Hes good, but Kanyon's better all-round. He might not innovate stuff, but who cares.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Release Kanyon?? Kanyon is awesome- they gotta bring him back soon
Guest The Superstar Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I see them getting rid of Steve Blackman (sorry CRZ). I mean, even if he is a trainer, he hasn't done anything worth while in all the years he's been here (except his enjoyable match w/ Shane and some Hardcore title stuff). HAKU too...why did they even sign him in the first place?
Guest AM The Kid Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I've been saying for awhile that the WWF has to drop the dead weight. I'm glad they are.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 They signed Haku to screw over Bischoff
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 They signed Haku to screw over Bischoff I can only imagine the meeting that took place to come to that decision: Vince: What can we do to screw over WCW? Patterson: What if we steal their Hardcore Champ, Meng? Vince: Brilliant! Surely, that will be the nail in the coffin for WCW! I mean, WTF? Meng/Haku? Sure, he got a "holy shit" response in the gimmick battle royal, but what else has he done? What did they think they were going to do w/ him?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 It was the Royal Rumble not gimmick battle royal
Guest undisputedjericho Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 They signed Haku because he was working on a show-to-show basis with WCW and he was their Hardcore Champ, so they stole him and stuck him in the Royal Rumble. And if I remember right, on one of the last Thunders I ever watched, he retained it against Bigelow days before the RR.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I could see if he was a major champ, but he was the Hardcore Champ. It's not like he was a major player. He was somewhat over only because of the giant 'fro and shiny, baggy pants.
Guest Whatmaniac Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 They signed I mean, WTF? Meng/Haku? Sure, he got a "holy shit" response in the gimmick battle royal, but what else has he done? What did they think they were going to do w/ him? It seemed like they just brought him in so that he could form a Samoan monster tag team and thus give the Undertaker and Kane some credible opponents. I believe the two teams were originally slated to feud over the tag titles at Wrestlemania 17, but Rikishi got hurt so that plan was scrapped.

If we had that tag match, I don't think WM17 would be regarded as the "best ever"
