Guest Phr33k Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 It's back on. Reports from a source whom I can't name, mainly because I forgot who it was and I'm too lazy to check, say that the match, which wasn't supposed to air on the show, will now go ahead as planned. I'm happy that Y2J has a match on the card, but shouldn't they have made up their minds a long time ago? A situation like that wouldn't be good for both participants in the match.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 well its good for Cena... in a way
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Hell. If Maven can have his name on a goddamn WrestleMania card, why can't Cena be at Vengence?
Guest Nezbyte Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Hell. If Maven can have his name on a goddamn WrestleMania card, why can't Cena be at Vengence? And on that note, Cena is a fuck load better than Maven.
Guest Brian Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Because Cena didn't earn it. Maven's a star. He won Tough Enough.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 OK, at least they've made up their minds... geez. Is Jericho going over this time? Because if not, you can call the Jericho/Cena mini-feud pretty one-sided, because if Cena wins at Vengeance that'll make three in a row over Jericho! (hey, that rhymed)
Guest AM The Kid Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Most expected WWE to add a Chris Jericho/John Cena match to the WWE Vengeance card, however, since the two wrestled on Smackdown and WWE made no mention of another match on the PPV, it seemed like it would be off. Now it seems that they are considering putting the match on the show, and using an angle on a weekend show to set it up. Credit: WrestlingObserver.com Using a weekend show? Ugh.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Earning it means winning a bogus MTV contest? Hey, Cena has been busting his ass for a while on the indy circuit and in OVW. Who has paid more dues?
Guest Nezbyte Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Earning it means winning a bogus MTV contest? Hey, Cena has been busting his ass for a while on the indy circuit and in OVW. Who has paid more dues? Exactly. Cena has earned it through dedication (and RUTHLESS AGRESSION~!), plus, he's had better matches AND a story line beyond the fact that he ... uh, won a contest. Go CENA. Now, all we have to do is get Test on the Card ...
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 @ this whole mess. I just hope we get Jericho/Cena. Period.
Guest eiker_ir Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Yeah, still the Best........(BH4E sig)
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Because Cena didn't earn it. Maven's a star. He won Tough Enough. that's cold man.
Guest Hitman Jebus Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Nothing to do with this thread but... BretHart4Ever...THAT SIG RULES THE SCHOOL~!

Guest TheHulkster Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Nothing to do with this thread but... BretHart4Ever...THAT SIG RULES THE SCHOOL~! I'll second that. Very nice picture
Guest Zero_Cool Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Speaking of pictures...is that Hogan doing an enziguri? Not much worse than having a PPV match hyped on Velocity...
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 AHHH THAT HOGAN PIC IS THE BEST? Was that an Erik Watts dropkick or an attempted enzuguiri? And who is that opponent? I couldn't tell..
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 i bet we hear a laughing echo during the match... you really gotta feel bad for Jericho, he went from JTTS to High Mid-Card Jobber
Guest Downhome Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Question: Many of you bitch when they DON'T push new guys, yet when they push them you also bitch, why? Is it just because it's against Jericho? Would it truly be different if it was against someone you didn't like? I'm getting sick and tired of all of the complaining about guys being pushed. They want to push Cena as a Superstar, and that's what's going to happen. What is possibly wrong with him being on Vengence against Jericho? Think about it, they are actually trying to build up a guy, using a solid superstar. If anything in this entire situation I give WWE kudos for actually trying to push someone NEW... ...and I give Jericho all of the Kudos in the world for going along with this program, as THAT shows just WHY he is a Superstar, and why guys like HHH are looked down upon. Jericho is a top guy, he will be rewarded greatly for doing this for Cena, I assure you all of that.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 I've been saying the same thing Downhome
Guest Cubbie78 Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 I think the point people are making about these things (and especially the jericho/cena feud) is that you arent helping either guy if you dont use someone more established than Jericho..I mean sure, put him in a feud with the Undertaker and have him go over eventually, THAT would do something... But by pitting a rookie against someone who is generally booked to look VERY weak, then how do you help either guy?....Cena gos over someone whos been looking like a jobber lately, wooptee doo...and Jericho, if they are trying to establish him gets beat by a rookie, constantly...How does that help jericho?...it just hurts his credibility in the eyes of the fan.... You cant build up guys like cena unless you use an established upper mid card guy or main eventer...at least in the fan's eye...

You cant build up guys like cena unless you use an established upper mid card guy or main eventer...at least in the fan's eye... Alrighty, I only really have two things to say about that. I could go into a full drawn out discussion, but I really don't want to at the moment as I have a rather large headache, so I'll make this quick... ...one, I hate to break it to you but Jericho IS an established upper mid-card guy or main eventer. Why do you think they have been reminding everyone so much lately about Chris Jericho being the first evern Undisputed Champion? Chris Jericho has nothing at all to loose in this feud with Cena, and everything to gain. Him doing this (should) allow him to gain respect both from us, and all throughout backstage. If Jericho goes the route of Ric Flair, in terms of him laying down for younger talent in order to build THEM up at his expense, then I'm all for it... ...and two, Cena has EVERYTHING to gain from this feud. Besides the fact of what I just wrote in that previous paragraph, Cena is coming out of this feud a few notches higher just by being in the ring with Chris Jericho. Even if Cena is beaten by Jericho, he will still come out looking that damn bigger than he was pre-Vengence. Here is what I feel should, and very well could possibly happen at the PPV... ...have the Hogan/Edge Vs. Storm/Christian match at about the half way point. Right before the match, have Jericho attack and just desimate Edge in the backstage area (perhaps while Hogan is in a meeting with Steph or Bishoff?). This then forces Hogan to take on and to defend the tag titles against Team Canada all by himself, which leads to him being defeated and dropping those titles to Team Canada making Team Canada look that much more of a threat. Then, later in the card, we have Jericho Vs. Cena. Jericho dominates for most of the bout, then Cena gets the upperhand. Right when Jericho gets the upperhand once more and seems to be in the process of defeating Cena, Edge comes out while the Ref is down and Spears Jericho. Cena dishes out his finisher on Jericho and picks up the victory. That is it, and let me explain WHY this would be the best thing to do. Not only does it help Team Canada and make them look that much more of a threat, it doesn't hurt Hogan as it will be three men against him. This leads to Hogan feuding with the group, taking that angle to the next leval. It gets the straps off of Hogan/Edge, who do not need them anyhow, and makes the NEW champs look like they are worthy and credible. Also, all of these proposed happenings builds up for the Edge/Jericho bout to take place on Smackdown. Now I don't know about you, but if they did all of this on the PPV, it would make their SD match actually be ANTICIPATED. They will have set up so greatly that both men want to just kill each other for what each of them did to one another at the PPPV. Jericho cost Edge the tag title, and Edge led to Jericho being defeated by a ROOKIE! As for Cena, it obviously helps HIS push, as he picks up his first PPV victory against a SOLID superstar in Chris Jericho. From there, they could do an angle where Bishoff and Steph "bid" over who gets to sign him as they see a GREAT superstar in the making. By doing giving Cena the win and then by having Bishoff and Steph "bid" over him, he looks like he is truly somthing special, more so than now, in the fans eyes. Damnit, look what you did! You made me go off into a full drawn out discussion anyhow, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Guest Phr33k Posted July 21, 2002 Report Posted July 21, 2002 AHHH THAT HOGAN PIC IS THE BEST? Was that an Erik Watts dropkick or an attempted enzuguiri? And who is that opponent? I couldn't tell.. Antonio Inoki. And by the way... Your (Downhome's) explanation of what they should do and why makes a lot of sense, more than anything the writers have done since I can remember. Good points, despite the fact they're gonna get flamed like a drunk guy that owns a flamethrower's wife on an average Saturday night. (what put ceena over jericho that's crazy! OMG!)

Thanks, I know I'll get some "heat" for it. I don't care though, because my thinking process goes far beyond "duh, Jericho should never job to Cena, NOTHING can come out of it". I try to think what would be best for the now, AND for the future.
Guest Nezbyte Posted July 21, 2002 Report Posted July 21, 2002 You're a condemed man, Downhome. I agree, though. That puts us in the same Cell.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 21, 2002 Report Posted July 21, 2002 they can at least make Jericho look like a credible threat of some sorts as well, so both workers can benefit alot from the feud... like at Vengenance I would have Jericho and Cena go at it evenly, then Jericho and Cena start bleeding, then Jericho makes it alot worse on Cena, until he TKOs him, then Jericho can talk of Ruthless Aggression, and how he has it more than Cena, and a feud is underway between the two

I feel it's just filler for Jericho untill he can feud with Edge. I still strongly feel that Cena should go over Jericho at the PPV, by means of Edge's help.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 21, 2002 Report Posted July 21, 2002 I take issue with the way they push new guys. Why do the workers have to ALWAYS put them over? Angle, Jericho and RVD are putting over Cena/Brock... Where is Taker in all of this? Respecting Jeff Hardy? HHH? Won't even start... So the old guys...will only put over the next gen guys...on a very limited basis... But the next gen guys...none of whom were ever put over the right way themselves...have to put over the generation after them? There is a lost generation of talent named: Jericho, Benoit, Eddy, RVD, Angle and so on who have been grossly misused for so long that I credit it with the sole reason that ratings, attendance and buyrates are shitty. So how do we fix it? By using the guys that they never used properly to put over the people who will take their spots...god forbid HHH or Taker budge on theres. I like Taker...but since the RVD prgram isn't leading to the obvious RIGHT conclusion...he goes right back on my list of people who have done nothing to help the future of the business. At least Hogan put over Angle and will likely be putting over Edge sooner or later...THAT's the generation that can draw you money... ....or could have...but you know...politics...
