Guest RicFlairGlory Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Hey, the famed HBK and Mankind match took place in 1996, correct? I have someone who has the 1996 Year in Review tape. For 10 bucks I might as well buy it anyways, but just wondered if anybody could help clear it up for me, all the tape says is "Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind"
Guest Brian Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 It's one of the best matches to ever take place in the WWE. An incredibly great layed out brawl. Show was never released on commercial tape, so you might be better off finding someone who taped it live and buying a copy.

Brian- the show was released on video just very rare
Guest Brian Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Yeah, it was, but I've never seen a copy and the only time I did it was going for hundreds on Ebay. The chances of finding it are slim to none, as I've posted on every board searching.
Guest RicFlairGlory Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Oh I know it was a great match, I'm just wondering if anybody knew if the match on the tape was THE match. Before late '97, all sorts of match dates get blurry, WrestleManias aside.... I was thinking about the Foley DVD anyways, it doesnt have the match in entirety, does it?

It also has a bunch of other awesome stuff

Guest HartFan86 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Get the Foley DVD. 29038472309 times better than anything else you could get involving the HBK/Foley match.
Guest RicFlairGlory Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Wow, ya'll want something scary? Survivor Series 1997... USED, is 99.99 on Amazon.com
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Yes, you want the Foley DVD, and you want it now. Deffinately the best WWF-released home video that I've ever seen. Plus, to be quite frank, there wasn't a whole lot of good to be had in '96. Austin spent most of the year carrying curtain-jerkers, Bret left for quite a while, and despite what lots of people will tell you, Shawn Michaels' work that year may be the most over-rated year for any wrestler in the history of the sport. I probably stepped on a lot of toes with that statement, but it's no joke. Anyone who says Shawn carried everyone to ****+ star matches that year is probably the same person who told everyone the first ever hell in a cell match was the '97 match of the year. It's all balderdash, and should be taken with about three tons of salt.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Best on everything I've seen in 97- I think Bret v. Austin WMXIII Was MOTY
Guest RicFlairGlory Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Well anything decent from 96 would likely be on that video, and from WM11 to about KOR 97, I had been phasing in and out of watching wrestling so much, that all I could remember is HBK and Bret were still there. Actually I did remember the famed Savio Vega/Austin match from WM12 ::laughs:: Mostly I'm getting so sick of the crap there is now, I wouldnt mind going back and trying to watch old stuff again "like it was the first time"
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 1.20.97 Was that the date of WCW Souled Out with all its MOTYC???
Guest RicFlairGlory Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Best on everything I've seen in 97- I think Bret v. Austin WMXIII Was MOTY Despite my liking HIAC, I dont think anybody can come up with an argument to counter what you said. I'm all for Bret/Austin as MOTY. Though I think 'Taker/Sid should at least be a MOTYC because when Taker goes for the chokeslam, Sid shits his pants. Look closely... well... try not to, but you get the idea.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 He shit his pants at a house show. I rank HIAC #2 and 10 men tag #3

Actually I did remember the famed Savio Vega/Austin match from WM12 ::laughs:: Mostly I'm getting so sick of the crap there is now, I wouldnt mind going back and trying to watch old stuff again "like it was the first time" Well, I would still check the match list if I were you. There are quite a few title matches featuring Shawn that are simply not worth your time, despite how hyped the all are. Not only that, but Shawn blatantly throws temper tantrums in several of his matches (Vs. Vader and Vs. Bulldog stick out), which makes dissapointing matches veer into being hard to watch embarisments to wrestling. Thank God no one was watching back then. Anyway, Austin was actually a world-class worker in '96, but didn't really get to show it that often. Not until he got to feud with Bret, anway. As for '97 MOTY, if we're talking North America, I'm split between the Austin/Bret classic that has already been mentioned, and the Misterio/Guererro Cruiserweight Title match from Halloween Havok. Many people chose Wrestlemania 13 insantly simply because it may have been the most important WWF match of that era, while Rey/Eddy was, essentially, a throw-away undercard match with no real significance. However, as a pure match, I might be inclined to go with Rey/Eddy, for pure quality. I'd have to re-watch, to be sure. Either way, Undertaker/Michaels isn't getting NEAR that destinction. I'm assuming the Taker/Sid match was a joke. Please.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 I've never seen Rey Rey v. Eddy Ricky so Bret v. Austin is #1. DBS v. HBK from KOTR 96 is much better. I'm biased as fuck but I gave it ****1/2.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Ricky- What is your NA 96 MOTY?? My top 3 off hand- Bret v. Austin Dean v. Benoit- Hog Wild Bulldog v. HBK-KOTR I'm sure there's tons of WCW I'm forgetting

Well I know HBK wasnt as good as he's often hyped to be, and hell he isnt the only reason, I dont really mark out for Bret per-se, BUT I mark for his matches. As I said, I missed a lot during that time, I just saw Superstars a few times on Saturdays. Last I heard of him was from his ladder matches, and then by the time I started watching again, well.... it was Badd Blood, so I know I skipped over a lot of his crap, most of the Kliq crap too. As for '97 MOTY, if we're talking North America, I'm split between the Austin/Bret classic that has already been mentioned, and the Misterio/Guererro Cruiserweight Title match from Halloween Havok. I'd have to re-watch, to be sure.] I also didnt see Rey/Eddie, but I have heard a LOT of talk about it, most recently in comparison to the RVD/Eddy Ladder Match from RAW, by many a MOTYC. I'm still gonna go with Bret/Austin... it was somethin else. Either way, Undertaker/Michaels isn't getting NEAR that destinction. I'm assuming the Taker/Sid match was a joke. Please. Maybe you missed the part where I talked about Sid shitting his pants.... lol
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 I've never seen Rey Rey v. Eddy Ricky so Bret v. Austin is #1. DBS v. HBK from KOTR 96 is much better. I'm biased as fuck but I gave it ****1/2. Better than the one from Beware of the Dog? I sure as hell should hope so. Anyway, I haven't watched KOTR '96 in ages, so it had totally slipped my mind that Shawn even wrestled on that show. For curiousity's sake, who are you biased towards? Shawn or Davey? Anyway, you NEED to see Rey/Eddy. Like, not now, yesterday. I was pimping the hell out of that match the other day on this board, actually. It's just such an awesome match, and even though I love Austin/Bret, it's lacking in a few areas and I think Rey/Eddie might be better. Damn, I've gotta re-watch those soon.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 I'm biased towards Davey. They gave them the thirty minutes they wanted and while Bulldog went to the chinlock a bit too much it was still awesome. Bulldog did the Bulldog flop!
Guest RicFlairGlory Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Hey if anybody can find me a copy of Rey/Eddie, I'd be more than happy to watch it lol So now its WM13 and the Foley DVD on my list....
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 My vid store has HH97- gotta rent it soon
Guest RicFlairGlory Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 The video stores near my house went and sold all their old videos, and I was pissed, because NOBODY let me know this. All they had left was SummerSlam '98, for 2.99 I only shudder to imagine what the other good early '98 and late '97 PPV's they had.... *sighs*
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Summerslam 98 is the shit- get it
Guest RicFlairGlory Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 I already got it. 2.99 Glory I just wish I'd known a week earlier, I probably would have bought all they had, especially at those prices!
Guest bob_barron Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Ohhhhhhhh- i had no $ when my vid store unloaded and I only got 4 tapes. Damnit!
