Guest Downhome Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 From 1wrestling... Smackdown finished with a 2.7 broadcast rating, which is its lowest number ever. Being preempted in Los Angeles and New York last night certainly didn't help matters. ...wow, just, wow. I know it was preempted, but still. There is absolutely no excuse for the rating to be falling down that low, none at all. Especially with it not being "must see TV" and what not. Damnit, this is just out of the world, I never thought they would allow it to sink this low, seriously, I thought they'd pick the ball up and run with it before this. Yes, Brock going into Summerslam sure will be great. If he can't draw on SD as their main guy, then on PPV I dread to see what they will be able to pull in, damnit. Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 I'd figure the SD rating would be up to about 3.2 with it being played in NY and LA. I'm sure some other markets pre-empted it also. Also, SD being taped on Sunday hurt it's ratings
Guest Just call me Dan Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 I don't care what they put on there that isn't some shock TV or an old name resurfacing, it won't help the ratings. they are on a steady decline and will be until the show goes live and gets some better advertising (NOT on RAW)
Guest LooseCannon Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Considering LA and New York are the two largest media markets, the preemption there probably had a huge effect. I think it would've gotten about a 3.2 if not preempted in those Markets too. The difference between a 3.2 and 2.7 is only about 500,000 people.
Guest Downhome Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 I still say Kurt Angle is the answer damnit, and bring back Austin. Austin should have been the champ at WM and held it untill at least Summerslam, and Angle should have been on top all of this year. I don't care what you think, but Austin and Angle could have helped the company tons this year, if they only mad it happen. F*cking up the nWo also hurt the company, as did the constant title changes this year. But like I said in another previous post, Angle should be the guy in the #1 spot right now, HE is the answer for the current situation.
Guest Downhome Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 By the way, tt obviously isn't ONLY Brock Lesnar's fault that the show did so badly, as one person can not make or break a show in my opinion. What I am saying however, is that they are pushing HIM as their #1 guy, "The Next Big Thing". They promoted Hogan/Brock as something major, and it didn't work, at all. He is not over, he gets no reaction, and the fans give two sh*ts and a piss about him. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy for the most part, but they are building him up horribly, and the fans realize it. He isn't over, at all. He's pinned Flair, no one cared. He beat RVD in KOTR, and no one cared. He beat Hogan, and no one cares. He is unbeaten so far, and no one cares. He'll win the WWE title and suprisingly, no one will care. He isn't over, and quite simply, no one cares. It isn't his fault, it's just the way he's being built up, that is all. So yeah, Brock had tons to do with the low rating, because like I said, no, one, cares.

ANYHOW, a 2.7?! God DAMN! That's a bad break for the WWE considering I thought it was a pretty damn good show.
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 That's kind of shocking to me too. WWE really needs to pull the plug on the Brockberg push and maybe have Angle as their top heel(if he's staying heel, that is) instead, at least he can get over and can wrestle better than the WWE-style Brock Lesnar.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 ahem... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Good. For ONE FULL week everyone knew it was Hogan vs. Brock. They had a match last week to determine what it would be this week. You reap what you sow. Keep pushing Brock and keep thinking Hogan is worth ANYTHING... And enjoy the ratings. Lowest EVER? Sounds about right.
Guest Insanityman Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 May I also add that -at least- Iowa doesn't get UPN. And I still don't believe Brock is over.
Guest Nevermortal Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Bwahahahahahaha... Too bad though, there were 3 good matches on this week.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Well, we all know that they are going to blame Benoit, Guerrero and Angle for this one. No wait...it's all Jericho's fault! He left the show, which caused the ratings to fall.
Guest Brian Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Overnights are based on the top forty markets bps. I'm sure of that, and LA and New Yorck/NJ are like #1 and 2. Still, they had a week on what should have been their biggest match. If they want to salvage it, let Rock retain and find a face to hold it, or bring back Austin and hope he still has enough draw to save Lesnar. And if not, put it on the one guy in the company that's worth something.
Guest Flyboy Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Smackdown with a 2.7? You know Goldberg is on the way, now!
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 What should do is have Angle come out on SD! challenge Brock...beat him with some Heyman backfired interference. Turn Brock face...MAke Angle go to SS and have Rock tap clean. Then have Brock contend for Angle's title on the lesser ppvs that aren't SummerSlam.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 But Kurt angle doesn't have a WORKOUT VIDEO~!
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Why was Smackdown preempted?
Guest AndrewTS Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 May I point out that they hyped up Hogan-Brock, and happened to have that freakin' Henry-D'Von-Kish-Bautista crap in the first hour?
Guest Flyboy Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 But Kurt angle doesn't have a WORKOUT VIDEO~! I laughed at that. ANYHOW, to manly... I believe it was a football game or something like that.
Guest Kingpk Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Hmm, I don't know about anyone else, but this is kinda looking like when Nitro was dominating RAW because Nitro was live and had an "anything can happen" feel and RAW was taped so everyone knew what was going to happen and they had no real reason to watch. *sniffs* Smells like there's a Smark Talk column for me to write.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Who cares about the ratings as they long keep building long term storylines
Guest Brian Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Bob's right, I actually like SmackDown more because they seem to be building more.
Guest Flyboy Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Who cares about the ratings as they long keep building long term storylines That's true, BUT the WWE cares about ratings. Either they are going to panic and do something or just ride the wave of bad ratings.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Long term storylines are good. But not this one. Just because the have a plan...doesn't mean its a good one.
Guest The Superstar Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 OMG AndrewTS...best sig picture ever.
Guest Flyboy Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 OMG AndrewTS...best sig picture ever. Ain't it?
Guest nWoScorpion Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 3 or 4 states on the East Coast didn't get smackdown due to baseball & football games (i predicted it to be 1.0 lol)
Guest saturnmark4life Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 yeah, what worries me is that whilst there were a few good matches the ratings will cause the wwe to panic and drastically change everything. STOP THE BEARHUGS! If brock had used ANY other submission hold in the world he might have a chance. I think it's SSP time.
