Guest massivHEDtrauma Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 I personally thought HHH/HBK ruled. And I was one of the people trashing it coming into the show. I thought the stigma of HBK's injury made the somewhat boring parts seem very dramatic, and the finish was hot-as-hell. And HBK got crazy POP~! from the Nassau crowd. **** in my opinion. But I digress. Thoughts? Your picks? Etc.?
Guest Anglesault Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Test/Taker! Test rules! ::weeps::
Guest HartFan86 Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 I don't think HBK/HHH was the best match of the night, but it stole the show...if you get what I mean. Benoit/RVD was somewhat dissapointing, but I'm going with Edge/Eddy minus the finish. Great pyschology.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Benoit/RVD. I got into that match more than any other match. The beginning of HHH/HBK bored the hell out of me.
Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 I thought Angle/Rey was MOTN.
Guest Rob Van Dam Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Benoit v. RVD Finally somebody agrees with me, if they had ten more minutes that would of been a classic
Guest massivHEDtrauma Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Benoit v. RVD Finally somebody agrees with me, if they had ten more minutes that would of been a classic That one was definitely crazy-good, and I rated it the same as HHH/HBK - ****. The only reason I decided to go with HHH/HBK is that it was just so much more dramatic and eventful and memorable. But they were about the same as far as quality, in my opinion.
Guest godthedog Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 benoit/rvd. aside from rvd treating the crossface to the NO-LONG-TERM-SELLING OF DOOM, it told a great story (benoit working the shoulder & being absolutely DETERMINED to win with the crossface, rob refusing to give up, benoit getting frustrated when his strategy didn't work). and it seemed like a lot more than 10 minutes to me. felt like a 15-minute match, at least. runner-up: booker & goldust/unamericans. best old school tag match since last year's raw
Guest Incandenza Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 RVD/Benoit. I loved it more than their Raw match. First viewing is a definite ****, and could even be higher on a second viewing (and there will be a second viewing). I liked HHH/HBK a lot more than I thought I would, but I can't give it more than *** because there was way too much stalling in the first half. EDIT: And I'm with godthedog. The tag title match gets runner-up; I enjoyed the hell out of it.
Guest CanadianHorseman Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 HBK/HHH was MOTN. However, there are four other matches that were on the same level: RVD/Benoit Mysterio/Angle Eddy/Edge and yes, Brock/Rock Absolute blowaway show and Raw should be interesting to say the very least.
Guest CanadianChris Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Benoit/RVD, even with the non-sensical finish (because, let's face it, half the matches tonight featured nonsensical finishes).

Sorry, double post
Guest Kinetic Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 From a smark perspective, Benoit/RVD. From a sheer and utter markout perspective, HBK/HHH.
Guest Kingpk Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 RVD-Benoit HHH-HBK gets knocked down a notch because, of course, HHH HAS to get the last laugh, AGAIN!
Guest Brian Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 It'll make sense tomorrow, I'm sure they'll do something like have HBK come out in a wheel chair while HHH is gloating and hit him with sweet chin music.
Guest Incandenza Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 HHH getting is heat back tonight was one of the rare moments where I thought it justified.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Eddy/Edge was my MOTN. RVD's crappy selling ruined that match for me, so FUCK HIM!
Guest HartFan86 Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 RVD's crappy selling ruined that match for me, so FUCK HIM! Does he not like Benoit? 2 matches with him, 2 times he no-sold.
Guest godthedog Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 RVD's crappy selling ruined that match for me, so FUCK HIM! Does he not like Benoit? 2 matches with him, 2 times he no-sold. that would explain the incredibly stiff kicks that busted benoit's lip open.
Guest Shanghai Kid 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 HBK/HHH was the match of the night...but it had tough competition from Edge/Eddie and Benoit/RVD. Not too many people have been mentioning the rolling Northern Light suplexes that Benoit did. I've never seen that before and it was just excellent.
Guest Nevermortal Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 I love Benoit & RVD but no way did they have best match of the night. That goes to HBK & HHH.
Guest godthedog Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 i'm sorry, but hhh/hbk was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooooooooooooooo slooooooooooooooow to warrant 'match of the night' honors. once the match got going & it actually made sense to have all that resting between spots, it wasn't a problem. but the first 10 minutes or so were just...uf...
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Shawn/Trips was what most would expect, with more bumps, and lots of blood. No long-term selling, lots of slow parts, no real transitions between spots, and lots of borring brawling. Angle/Rey takes the cake. Fun sprint that should have been given more time.
Guest Incandenza Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Shawn/Trips was what most would expect, with more bumps, and lots of blood. No, only Trips provided the gusher. Shawn cut himself while shaving.
Guest TheHulkster Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Trips sold his beating like a man. Shawn was doing a good job of selling the back untill the kip up, but that fit the whole story of the match which was the metamorphasis from Shawn Hickenbottom: Husband/Father/God Loving common man into HBK: The Showstopper. Once he realized that fighting him like a man wasn't going to get the job done, he reverted to doing what he did best which was wrestling and generally putting his body on the line to win the big one. Anyway, I thought HBK/Hunter was the best match on the show.
Guest NoCalMike Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Benoit/RVD.......I thought the ending was a tad whack, but maybe that is because I wanted 10 more minutes...
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Shawn Michaels vs Triple H was the match of the night for me, it was just so fucking cool from a mark-out persepective...and plus, if i was still a mark, i'd be crying now wondering if Triple H KILLED HBK or not when he nailed him full pelt with that freakin' sledgehammer. HBK still rules This has been the Taker Mark
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Trips sold his beating like a man. Anyway, I thought HBK/Hunter was the best match on the show. Oh, so Shawn decidedly that by not selling anything and miraculously healing his back, he could win for sure. I'm sure many wrestlers have come to that conclusion at some point and won because of it. That doesn't mean it was the right thing to do. He goes from being obliterated by Trips at every turn, trying to play up the legitimacy of his back injury, and then kips up and everythings fine? Fuck it, the match loses all purpose right there. Not to mention it was plodding in it's "spot, rest, spot, rest" nature where there was blatantly nothing going on and they were just setting up the next big spot. It was like every other Sabu or Dreamer match I've seen, accept the spots all hit, luckilly. Still, nothing special. Fuck, the kick into the chair that caused Trips to blade looked good, but hardly damaging enough for the huge gash Trips had suddenly aquired. It looked more akin to being stabbed with an electric drill in the face. I'm all for blading to create drama, but that was just ludicrous.
