Guest The Czech Republic Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 What's with the recent trend of using cheap stock music for everyone? I thought they had an in-house composer to prevent this staleness. I swear I've heard Brock Lesnar's music somewhere else besides WWE, and when your champ is using stock music that can't be differentiated from any other new guy's music...ouch. Examples: John Cena: I heard it on a commercial on TNN. Chris Nowinski: I remember it being on Pete & Pete when I was a kid. Sean O'Haire/Chuck Palumbo: TNN commercial Bull Buchanan: Toughman Contest Hardy Boyz: Toughman Contest Marc Mero: Toughman Contest, Halloween Havoc promos Tajiri: I heard it on a commercial for a a restaurant. There are plenty others that the only relation is that it sounds almost exactly like about ten other songs. Maybe they should just go ECW and use real music for everyone.
Guest raptor Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 The Hardy Boyz music is used regularly on ESPNews, as well.
Guest TheRockIsTheEuropeanChampion Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I think the TNN commercials came *after* WWE used them. I'm not sure, though. JR's is used on a friggin' local car ad, but that doesn't really count. Uhm.. our minor league baseball team used to use the Hardy's theme for their ads. I've been waiting for WWE to start using real songs for everybody... Though the thought of James A. Johnston out of a job makes me sad.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I've heard Jerry Lawler's theme on Any Given Sunday. The sadest thing? An ESPN College Football program uses the theme for InVasion. Such a historical PPV, and they couldn't even be bothered to have a song made up. Not like it really matters. Wrestler themes aren't really good, nor are they meant to be, as they're just presentation to glorify "Hey look, a wrestler!" However, it sucks when you hear the same song everywhere else.
Guest TheRockIsTheEuropeanChampion Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I always feel like a loser when I hear a theme on television when I'm not watching wrestling. I get really excited as I'm turning to look at the screen... And then it's something else entirely. Booker T's theme used on a KITH sketch, for instance.. every damn time. Yeah, it really doesn't matter.. Just one of those little things... "Hey look, a wrestler!" That made me laugh terribly for no good reason.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Lita's old music, which I think is the one Molly or some other female wrestler uses now, I've heard on commercials for a regional news channel. Not like it really matters. Wrestler themes aren't really good, nor are they meant to be, as they're just presentation to glorify "Hey look, a wrestler!" However, it sucks when you hear the same song everywhere else. Not even that really, but all this stock music is so generic, that if you don't pay attention, a lot of it is really no different from each other. When a wrestler's music hits, in a perfect world, you should be able to recognize which wrestler it is right off the bat. It should be distinctive, like Steve Austin's or The Rock's music. Booker T's theme used on a KITH sketch, for instance.. every damn time. Just to mention it, I remember the sketch...It was for Francesca Fiore's line of perfume.... God, I'm such a KITH mark.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 "I do it because I am a bitch!"
Guest The Czech Republic Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Actually, Lawler's song is The Great Gate of Kiev. It's a real song so it's excusable.
Guest The Ruthless Aggressor Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I heard Tajiri's song on a cooking show once.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I would like to point out that at least WCW's theme division is not working in the WWE. They had some hits and misses, but some complete oddities as well. I mean, what the fuck is Vince Russo doing coming to the ring to some sort of Black Sabbath meets Generic Death Rock? I mean... Jesus.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Yeah, "The Great Gates of Kiev," part of Pictures at an Exhibiton by Modest Mussorgsky, has been around for 125 years or so. Public domain by now, believe me. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge

Jesus. I thought Russo's theme was badass... Too bad it was Russo using it, considering that he's a tool, and it fit much better with the Road Warriors, back when it was their theme. So... "Ironman" went from Road Warriors > Vince Russo > Road Warrior Animal (he used it when he came back at the tail end of WCWs existence). During Eric Bischoff's last run in WCW, alongside Russo, he used a cool classic rock-ish jam theme... And it was actually a clipped version of "White Train" which was used in "Desperado". Don't forget the countless other rip-offs WCW used, the best of which was Raven's theme, IMO.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I doubt Jim Johnston does the music anymore and if he does, he's become a complete lazy ass.

Guest MrRant Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Anyone notice Steven Richards is using Kronic's old music?
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Im watching ESPNEWS and they just used the Hardy Boyz theme over their box score screen..I had never noticed this before..
Guest TheRockIsTheEuropeanChampion Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Don't forget the countless other rip-offs WCW used, the best of which was Raven's theme, IMO. I mark for almost all of WCW's cheap ripoff themes.. I have a CD of them, even. Raven's was the best, by far. That's probably because it wasn't a complete bastardization of the real thing (IE: Jericho's "Evenflow" theme). I think Shawn Stasiak was using some ripoff of "Right Here, Right Now" by Fatboy Slim near the end of WCW... That was pretty bad. Oh, and Shane Douglas, that ripoff of "Perfect Strangers"... damn... Can't forget Kronik's, either; Stevie's other Alliance theme was far better. Jimmy Hart sure had some classics, eh? Getting back to topic: I was under the impression that commonly used WWE themes (Hardyz, Tajiri) weren't fully copyrighted or something of that sort. Is there any find to actually find out?
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 They should make a total goofy-ass wrestler and give him the Benny Hill theme. As for people who could use it now... Crash Planet Stasiak Jerry Lawler Any other person we don't take very seriously Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest Leena Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I've heard the Hardyz, Hollys, Lita's old music (I think Terri's music now), Jericho's WCW face music, Edge & Christian's, and Viscera's music on ESPN.
Guest The Flying Dutchman Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 A lot of the theme music that WWE uses is public domain music. Anyone can use it without liscencing it.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 "JR's is used on a friggin' local car ad, but that doesn't really count" Well it is OU's fight song.....it's been around long before JR. And Russo's Iron Man....that wasn't even really Iron Man was it? It had the same opening but it deviated once that ended.

Not like we're near Oklahoma or something. It's Utah. Russo's theme: From what I remember, only the beginning was the same. After that, it swerved off into its own little place, much like most of WCW's ripoff themes did. Who did WCW's themes, anyway? Besides Jimmy Hart...
Guest Tony149 Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I think Johnson might be leaving WWE or is already gone. I remember seeing a WWE ad looking for a new music composer months ago.
Guest AndrewTS Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Jimmy Hart has NO imagination. All of his themes practically were rip offs of real music minus lyrics, with a chord or two changed to avoid the fees. Russo's bastardized "Iron Man" Shane Douglas (he DID use "Perfect Strangers" in ECW. And Deep Purple kicks ass my friends.) Chris Jericho - "Evenflow" by Pearl Jam Raven - "Come As You Are" by Nirvana DDP - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (oh, the irony...) by Nirvana Kronik - I don't know what it is, but I've heard it was a NIN ripoff Elix Skipper - "Party Up" by ...DMX? JZ? I don't know one assclown rapper from another. M.I. Smooth - I think it was a ripoff of the Santana/Rob Thomas "Smooth." It's worth note that Bischoff came out to AC/DC's "Back in Black" his first night, then got an original theme, but one that kinda sounded like it. The nWo theme was lifted from a porno, and "Voodoo Chile" by Jimi Hendrix--was...for Hogan. They also used Megadeth's "Crush 'Em" for Goldberg for a while, which was supposed to be a sports anthem, but was so crappy they couldn't give it away.
Guest Redhawk Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I wasn't really listening, but Batista's music sounded somewhat original on Smackdown. And not all of the new music sucks. I happen to get a kick out of D-Von's theme.
Guest deadbeater Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Do you know part of Molly's new theme sounds just like the dance song "Nasty Girl"? As in "Nasty girl just wants to get naked"?
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 When I watch the Baltimore Orioles games on TV they use John Cena's theme when showing highlights or replays. haha the O's have RUTHLESS AGRESSION~!
Guest Anglesault Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 The Yankees play Big Show's theme in between innings. I guess they bought rights to it from Vince. Hurricane's first hero theme advertises Popcorn chicken.

Actually, KroniK's theme was a rip-off of a Static-X song. And Primetime's theme was basically "Party Up" by DMX. Sting used "Seek and Destroy" by Metallica for a while. Lance Storm, when he first showed up in WCW, had a theme which was very similar to ECW's theme song. I just remembered. For one of their themes, around mid-2000, the Filthy Animals used what was basically Q-Tip's "Vibrant Thing" with different lyrics. and The Demon used a song by KISS.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 Who did WCW's themes, anyway? Besides Jimmy Hart... It's a public domain library for the most part, except people who really need their own music, such as Hulk Hogan. And even THOSE songs sound like stock music ripoffs...he's American Made... Here's a weird one: Big Josh, that lumberjack Matt Borne played, had a ripoff of Layla. Yeah. Layla, by Derrick and the Dominoes. BIIIIG JOSHHH, ya got me on my knees!
