He recently said that he has acheived everything that he wants to acheive in the wrestling business. He now has Fozzy which is taking up a larger and larger proportion of his time. he has not been involved in a meaningful storyline since wrestlemania. There is no sign that they have anything meaningful planned for him in the near future. If you were Jericho what would be your motivation for carrying on wrestling? Is it possible to do anything new with his character? I am ahuge fan of his, but surely I am not the only one who is getting slightly bored of him lately. There is little to no chance of another ME push. I doubt he would be happy with the IC title and neither would the fans as we have seen him with the belt so many times before. I was just wondering if anyone else had thought like this and whether they think that it could be near to the end of the line for Jericho?

True, it does seem like he doesn't really care...

Curry Man??? Where's NTD?!?!?

Cheap plug for the SWF :D

Er... I guess we've done enough cheap plugs, so I'll let it go.

Someone should kill Fozzy, so Jericho can concentrate on wrestling again. It's depressing how far down he's gone, and it doesn't look like he'll be going back up any time soon.

He may be unmotivated but he is also so stale right now. Combine those two factors and you have a stale guy with no motivation to reinvent himself and become interesting again. He just got a new contract and I bet it's frustrating to know you will never be considered someone with ace-potential by Vince and will constantly be held down. He hasn't added any new moves to his arsenal in a while, he promo style is stale to the point of being awful to listen to and I don't see him getting any better.

I think, more than anything, he feels that he's not going to achieve anything higher than where he is right now, and he doesn't have a reason to. Therefore, he just doesn't care about his direction or the amount of work he puts into it, which is really quite sad.

You guys make it sound like Jericho dogging it is news. Just check out the majority of his pre-Living Legend WWF career - Jericho basically phoned in every match that wasn't against Benoit.

And it's not like he has a lot to look forward to, given that he's been resigned to jobbing to Flair and babbling that he's "The King Of The World" in almost every interview he has. It boggles my mind why they felt the need to drop the "Living Legend" gimmick.

huh? did you WATCH wwf television in 2000? jericho worked his ass off, and not just against benoit. watch the last man standing match. that is the hardest i've ever seen jericho work, period.

Worked a ton against Angle, too. Actually, they had quite a few great matches where he worked his ass off. Hell, Jericho even got the most he could out of Chyna, at one point. His matches with Rock had plenty of effort.

And those are also the days when Jericho had a reason to work hard, before the WWF machine took away his reason for trying.

Though dogging it has no real excuse, I can understand why you wouldn't go all out, when you know you're jobbing and next week or so it'll be the same old shit. Toss in the fact that Jericho is getting paid probably more than he ever has before, and has some job security.

I still enjoy Jericho immensely though. But then, I'm a big mark for him. I admit he is stale, but IMO, it's nowhere near the level of staleness that occured during his face run.

Jericho was probably motivated the most in WCW. He was the greatest heel in the buisness. He knew it, the fans knew it, and he was just waiting for WCW to realize it...but they didn't. So he came to the WWF to become what could of been seriously the biggest drawing heel in the history of wrestling.

But the writers took over his character and he was soon pushed into a feud with Chyna...the beginning of the end. Add to the fact he has this monkey on his back (HHH) holding him down at every oppertunity, and let me ask, would you really give a fuck? Jericho was so damn unbelievably good in WCW, that i'm amazed that the WWF couldn't capitalize on it. If the WWE would of pushed Jericho as the top heel as soon as he came, than he would be alot bigger. I think his whole 2000-2001 face run just killed Jericho. He went from the most exciting heel to the most stale face, and than it got worst with his 'living legend' gimmick. His new heel character was a horrible lame duck champion who could and never did win a match cleanly. Nobody took him seriously as a champ and his storyline leading to Wrestlemania was atrocious. The magic of his heel character in WCW was gone. I think it's because in WCW, Jericho was a cocky arrogant heel who could beat the faces cleanly..which made the fans hate him more. But the WWE has their own formula, and HHH is the only heel to ever look stronger than the faces.

So Jericho is stale now, the only thing that could really help him out alot is like taking a 6 month vacation and than coming back with a whole new character. I mean if you looked back into 98 and asked who you thought was going to be the next star you would probably say Jericho. He was so over as a heel that the fans actually believed that he could of been in a feud with the World Champion Goldberg. When your Cruserweight champion is over enough to face your World Champion, you know you have something special.

All gone to waste.

I still love Jericho's heel act...

Ref: C'mon Jericho, break the hold!

Jericho: *incoherent mumbling*King of the World!!!*mumbles*

...but his matches have been pretty bad lately. Sure it doesn't help that he's fighting people like Flair or Cena, but he's pretty sloppy and hasn't done anything new in a long time.

It wouldn't be suprising if he doesn't give a crap. He obviously peaked (in the WWF anyway) with his victories over the Rock, and ow he's buried for good. He's got money, he's got a band, he's still young and relatively healthy, why should he be flying around killing himself like HBK did?

Guest AndrewisyourHero

I also like Jericho's heel act. For example, on RAW last week, during his match, he yelled out "I'm the king of the world, dammit!" I got a kick out of that. Now, if only his matches were better, or HHH was shot in the quad..

Sorry, I lost all interest in Jericho after he alienated part of his fanbase with that post-kotr hissyfit.

I can actually see where he's coming from, though. *cough* You almost have to be a lawyer..prepared to defend every statement you make around here.

"I like RVD."

"Well..so and so is better than RVD because this this and this..and this. You -can't- like RVD.."

Jericho's character has been mis-used so much I really don't care about him anymore. I kinda lost intrest in him around the time he lost the Heavyweight Title to hHh.

He obvoiusly won't be quitting any time soon since he just signed a new contract with the WWE. Hey, who knows. They may eventually use him someway, but it sure as hell doesn't look like anytime soon.

Also, if Jericho's saying that he wants to be with Fozzy more and he's done everything he wanted to in wrestling, why would the WWE bother having him under contract?

Guest El Psycho Diablo

Well..it may help to give him time off. If they can clear this clog of useless "Legends" (Flair, you were good once. Buh-bye. Hogan, you too.) and "Top Dogs" (Taker, HHH) and get some decent writers/bookers in there..perhaps we could see the old Jericho back.

Guest RavishingRickRudo

If you say 'RVD is the best wrestler in the Wwf' then of course there will be objection - and you should be willing to defend your statement before you make it.

I don't think I have ever seen a 'You can't like ___' comment on this board, however. There can be a "I don't like him and here's why" and that's fine, but I haven't seen a single thread here where someone says you can't have a favourite.

As far as Jericho "dogging it", let's not forget Triple H burying him to Vince, saying he was too stiff, etc. If he's not going to be allowed to work the way he wants to or is comfortable with, wouldn't that kill some of his motivation? Also, his lame duck title reign where he almost wasn't allowed to get over, I mean c'mon. The only thing keeping him going is probably love for the business, and even that must be drying up.

I've been saying Jericho doesn't give a shit for a long time, and has no reason to. He's tried his best to deal with what he was dealt, and after becoming Undisputed Champ, a lot of us thought he'd finally broken through.

Then his horribly-booked title reign began...

I wouldn't care either, or I'd open my damn mouth and let my complaints be known. Yet...he just signed another contract. He's there to collect his paycheck, and half-ass his matches, knowing that at his worst he's still better than much of the dead weights clogging up the roster.

I thought Larry Zbysko was going to sew the WWE or something over it. Remember that shoot interview he did in the WWA? All about how Jericho is a midget and Vince is a pussy? Whatever. Zbysko came off like an old coot. But I distinctly remember something about threatened litigation and the WWE just dropped the entire thing. I mean, c'mon, his king of the world gimmick is just about the exact same as his living legend gimmick. Who cares.

Nabisco didn't have a leg to stand on from what I understand, but the matter would probably have required some litigation. Since Vince was bending over for the Panda Police anyway, they decided to give in to Larry Z too I guess. Plus...it's Jericho. They didn't give enough of a shit about Jericho to defend him over it.

While I never will be much of a Jericho fan, he did not phone in his matches in 2000. I was at Survivor Series that year (god it sucked) and Jericho's match was the only thing worthwhile on the whole card. Say what you will about his current work but don't try to compare it to his previous stuff.

It's kind of like working at a certain place for a while, with Jericho.

You work hard with what you're given, trying to advance up the ranks. You get so close to a big promotion (no pun intended)...but nothing comes of it. Then you realize all the time you wasted chasing a pipe dream...then you go "fuck this" and you start phoning everything in.

Besides, after the whole KOTR blacklash and alienation of some of his biggest fans, I too have stopped caring for the most part. But it is noticeable that he doesn't really care anymore. Sad, however it makes sense.

He seems to really be having a breakdown. Having your band get the shit booed out of them, I'm sure there are poor CD sales, catching critisism of your matches as you go plummet on a downward spiral, jobbing to Ric Flair, John Cena, HHH, and anyone else. Your title reign pretty much forgotten, you not being cared about in the booking, it really sucks and I don't see how he doesn't pull a Stone Cold.

Guest Dames Edna

Jericho having a nervous breakdown? Why? Because the internet hates him? Because the internet says his cd sucks? No one on the internet is ever happy, they can never be pleased, and they take themselves too seriously.

Fozzy is pretty much a mock band - they aren't considered anything serious. Much in the same way Spinal Tap was, it's an outlet for Jericho to play out a quasi-dream. I honestly don't think he cares if his record sells millions of records.

As far as wrestling goes, I think he may be dejected at how his career has been going. The bookers are against him (debate it all you want, but Triple H is out for his ass), he is jobbing to green rookies and over-the-hill veterans, and his work is being ripped apart by all these know-it-alls. truth be known, Jericho is the top 5 is charisma to workrate ratio. In fact, I'd say he probably has the best charisma to workrate ration in the business right now. As seen in him promos in WCW and early WWF tenure - he can be awesome. But he is now being fed terrible angles, and given nothing to work with. His Undisputed Title reign was great, but none of his title defenses were given Main Event builds. This guy could be THE ONE to build the company around - yet he has been treated like a complete fool. I wouldn't say Jericho is no longer trying, I am saying the people he is put with just aren't at his level.

It saddens me that many of the internet "smarks" used to be fans of his, but just because he had the balls to stand up to this jaded community he is being blacklisted. Everyone now critisizes him, and do not give him an ounce of credit. I am a Jerichoholic, and always will. I have gained more respect for him because he has stood up to the IWC bullshit. Face it, we are swimming in the bullshit. If Jericho wasn't around, many of you would notice that the shows just aren't as good. Give him some f'n credit.

I think that Jericho works his ass off, but for some reason it's just not "clicking" for him in the ring.

I don't find him stale at all. His little rendition of "New York, New York" had me rolling in the aisles.

Butchering a song so badly that they have to go to commercial break, and then when they come back he's STILL going...that's SO Jericho '98.

There's nothing wrong with his character, but if he keeps losing and made to look like a retard, then he becomes a joke. He's very close to being a joke with me, unfortunately. I'm barely still considering him a Main Eventer.

Guest Dames Edna

I think he is a Main Eventer - he is the strongest heel on the RAW roster. In fact, he should be the MVP of the RAW roster - his re-debut was hot. But it won't happen. Maybe he'll regain his heat by putting Flair into retirement

Guest AndrewTS

"Never happy?" HA! How so? Jericho was praised so much that only Benoit got more credit than him, and in many ways more so because he has/had ring skills AND charisma.

Jericho was completely wrong, since the net was ALWAYS very positive about his performances, he just drew his conclusions from one site--the Torch. And because his match with RVD wasn't universally praised as a Steamboat-Flair killer, he bitched and moaned about it. And Torch readers are all fags anyway, but if he's got his head so far up his ass that he thinks everyone feels that way, then tough.

Who knows what he really is up to behind he scenes...he may have earned his burial from HHH.
