Guest MrRant Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I was going through the computer today doing some cleaning up of files and such when I came across the Austin Desire video and boy do I miss him. Going by what he says in it I believe he will be back sooner than later but even if he doesn't I'm glad I got to see him live twice. Once at No Way Out 2001 and RAW last February.
Guest Ozymandias Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 Bite you tounge! Vince knows what he's doing here. Right everyone? RIGHT? *crickets chirp*
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 Yeah, I miss Austin. I don't care if he was a prick or whatever. On his day, as an all-round on screen performer he has no equal in the WWE, IMO.
Guest BifEverchad Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I picked up the Austin "What?" DVD yesterday, and just sat down and watched it this afternoon. Mr. Rant, you're not alone...I honestly miss him too. When he left, I'll admit, I said "Meh, who cares he's gone. Someone else will fill the void". But only now after watching that DVD yesterday, I realized how important he was in the WWE. Hopefully everything will work out in the end and he WILL be back in the WWE sooner than later. Bif
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 Eh. Austin was good when he was on, but the heel turn/face turn..and the fact he beat EVERYBODY he was up against (including the entire alliance) pissed me off. No more Superman characters, please.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 Totally agreed about the superman persona. No one could beat him. People complain about guys like Brock or Goldberg never being beat because it is made ovious that they have a streak going. Austin was right up there in never jobbing. I really don't see it as he should have in a lot of matches, but the besting of three to four people is ridiculous. I think he'll be back and be great for a few more years before giving the ultimate rub. Or at least I hope so.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 Nah, the difference with Austin and say HHH is Austin lost sometimes, and made others look good. I wouldn't say he was a total superman.
Guest areacode212 Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I don't miss him as much as I thought I would. I mean, I loved the guy (in a manly way), but when I'm watching wrestling these days, I never think "Gee, I wish Austin would come out". If anything, I'd like to see 1996 Evil Austin again, or even Singing Austin, but the babyface version always bored me. Ah well, I have a bunch of his matches on tape, so I can always pop those in if I want to see him again.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I'm glad I got to see him live twice. Once at No Way Out 2001 and RAW last February. Too bad you had to see him at that point, when he was unmotivated. NWO 2001 is good though.
Guest papacita Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I agree with areacode212. Heel Austin is probably with the exception of HBK my all time favorite performer, but as a face, he always seemed like a watered down shell of his former self. Honestly, I think it was about time for Austin to go for a while, because really, the way he's been pushed over the last 6 years, there's not much left for him as a character to accomplish.
Guest Will Scarlet Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I agree with Areacode212 and Papacita. When Austin left, he was kind of getting stale, and seemed like a shell of his former self. He seemed to just say What? a lot and half ass matches. I figure that I have some of Austin's stuff on tapes and DVD's from various skits to his WCW stuff to his match against Dude Love at a PPV which name escapes me, which is easily my favourite WWF Austin match, so I really do not need an Austin return. Though, if he came back rejuvenated and fresh, then I might welcome an Austin return.
Guest Ozymandias Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 His pancakes are living inside you.
Guest bob_barron Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I don't miss him at all. I couldn't care less if he comes back.
Guest Creepy Crawl Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I miss Austin a lot too ! Me and my girl were talking the other day and she asked me what would make me happier than anything in the world . Well I guess she was expecting some sentimental mushy crap and I said what would make me happier than anything would be watching Raw and hear that glass break and see my all time favorite wrestler come back to the WWF ! I personally dont care about his personal life or whatever I just want to see him back ! The reason I respect the guy so much is I met him at WM 17 and he was just like standing there talking to a normal person , not like some big bad ass or anything he really earned my respect by being down to earth like that and not tryting to act like he was above me . Hopefully he can get his life worked out and make his way back to the ring a lot sooner than later .
Guest BigPoppaKev Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 It really would be nice if Austin came back. The only problem is that he would probably end up feuding with HHH again. And god knows how much we want to see that match. If he came back and was the no BS Austin from like '98 that would be awesome and a real boost to whatever show he goes to. (I am presuming Raw.)
Guest Anglesault Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I agree with Areacode212 and Papacita. When Austin left, he was kind of getting stale, and seemed like a shell of his former self. It all stems back to Hogan Nash and Hall, unsurprisingly. I mean really, Can you BLAME Austin for the post Mania walkout? They have him feuding with people he doesn't like, MID CARDING at Wrestlemania, and they wanted him to job to a guy that he (correctly) stated would be out of the company in a month. Then came the nWo feud from hell where the man is in midcard matches against THE BIG SHOW. He had no reason to be motivated at this point, and if Vince KNEW he was livid, why would they book him to job to the heatless wonder? I don't agree with Austin walking out, but he was being driven out anyway.
Guest papacita Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 I wouldn't mind having Austin back...but he should be limited to one "WHAT?!" per promo.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 It really would be nice if Austin came back. The only problem is that he would probably end up feuding with HHH again. No, not HHH. Angle/Austin. Have they had a bad match?
Guest BigPoppaKev Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 No, not HHH. Angle/Austin. Have they had a bad match? Yeah but since Austin and Angle seem to always have good matches you know that Vince will fuck it up and we will get stuck with a boring HHH/Austin feud. The only time I have enjoyed them feuding was when Austin initially came back from surgery. Their match at NWO 01 was really good.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 Even more insulting is that Austin was WWF wrestler of the year in 2001, and that was his payback.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 I think face Austin and heel Angle is horrible. Swap roles and we're talking. I'd most like to see RVD/Austin or even one more Rock/Austin because I never felt like they really opened up a lot with that feud. They never really had rematches or an extended feud. Heel Rock or Hell Austin would do that feud just fine.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 Even more insulting is that Austin was WWF wrestler of the year in 2001, and that was his payback. Exactly. I always complain about the way Angle was treated this year after being number 2 behind Austin last year, But Steve got it SO much worse.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 I've always liked the idea of an Austin/Angle tag team demanding respect. I'm not sure how they could allude to being one and two last year and now doing jackshit without getting too shootish. Also, Mega Group of Austin/Angle/Benoit/Jericho. Awesome matches, Horsemen type feel, and i think that they could use any of the three (Whoever is tagging with Benoit) to talk for Chris Benoit. Hell, I'd even like Heyman managing.
Guest BigPoppaKev Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 Austin really did get the short end of the stick. Going from maineventing maybe the best WM ever to wrestling a drunken washed up wrestler in Scott Hall. I would be pissed if I was in his situation also. I was wondering if you thought that we will ever see Austin again? I would put money on yes. We have seen so many times that bridges are never burned in wrestling.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 Austin (and to a lesser extent, Angle) carried the WWF through the otherwise shitty Alliance period. HHH wasn't even there, Taker practically killed the thing, Brock wasn't around yet, neither was Hogan, and Rock was sometimes, yet these are the people pushed in the main events.
Guest BigPoppaKev Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 Also, Mega Group of Austin/Angle/Benoit/Jericho. Awesome matches, Horsemen type feel, and i think that they could use any of the three (Whoever is tagging with Benoit) to talk for Chris Benoit. Hell, I'd even like Heyman managing. That would be good but I think that would be too much of a "stack" on the heel side. We need someone to oppose them. I would rather see Austin v.s the other three then all 4 v.s UT, HHH etc;. But I think a group of Angle,Benoit,Jericho would work.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 I would have loved to see the proposed Benoit/Austin fued that was gonna take place before Stone Cold left. Particularly after the 2001 MOTY they had.
Guest areacode212 Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 I've always liked the idea of an Austin/Angle tag team demanding respect. I'm not sure how they could allude to being one and two last year and now doing jackshit without getting too shootish. I like the idea of Austin and Angle teaming up, without one really being the other's "lackey". I thought they had good chemistry whenever they were paired together in the Alliance, and both of them could pull off being either badasses or heelish whiners.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 Also, Mega Group of Austin/Angle/Benoit/Jericho. But I think a group of Angle,Benoit,Jericho would work. Austin/Angle/Benoit/Jericho could face Rock/RVD/Booker/Edge(Ugh) with guys like Taker and HHH (I know) thrown in between. As long as Edge is eliminated quick, that would be one hell of a survivor series match. Or, hell, even better, War Games.
