Guest Angle-plex Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 When the contract for WWE Smackdown on UPN is up next August, there is talk that UPN could cut the show down to one hour. UPN is looking to pay WWE a lower licensing fee, and might also cut back the show to one hour. While it is the top rated show on the network, it doesn’t currently act as a lead in for any other UPN show, thus wasting its high rating on local network news. In addition, despite the high ratings, UPN gets a lower ad rate for Smackdown because of the wrestling stigma. WWE would probably convert Heat into a Smackdown show if this happens, or revamp the Saturday night shows to feature more prominent Smackdown branded wrestlers. Credit: Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter
Guest Mole Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Ahh, is UPN retarted? Cutting their highest rated show?
Guest Mattdotcom Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Highest rated? You mean "One on One" isn't a runaway success?!
Guest geniusMoment Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 The best thing that could happen to wwe is if Smackdown is cut period. They would then be forced to cut all the dead weight from their product. the product wouldn't be so watered down
Guest TheyCallMeMark Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 The best thing that could happen to wwe is if Smackdown is cut period. They would then be forced to cut all the dead weight from their product. the product wouldn't be so watered down That's complete bullshit. We saw the product before the split. They had just as many shitty workers on TV, and the shitty workers were on both shows. If we got one TV show we'd have HHH, Rikishi, DeMott, Undertaker, Batista and Albert all getting time on the same show. The only talent they'd cut are the cruiserweights.
Guest Brian Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 You really think they'd cut the bad people? They'd just opt for a new way to keep up the split.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 That would be bad, IMO (cancelling SD). We'd get HHH and the hosses pushed on Raw, and the Benoit's and Guerrero's and Knoble's and Mattitude's and Helms's (and others) wouldn't see the light of day.
Guest red_file Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Ahh, is UPN retarted? Cutting their highest rated show? Re-read the article. High ratings doesn't help when advertisers won't pay high rates to run ads, and the rating does nothing to help other programs on UPN. It's a mostly logical move on the part of UPN.
Guest El Satanico Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Ahh, is UPN retarted? Cutting their highest rated show? They aren't cutting it. They just want it to be shorter. It will still get the same ratings, but can now be used as a lead in show. By the way it's RETARDED NOT RETARTED...sorry but it just drives me insane when it's spelt like that.
Guest El Satanico Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 After they negotiate the new contract i wouldn't be surprised if Smackdown was turned into two one hour shows to be shown on seperate days. That's likely something UPN would agree to since they could spread their highest rated show over two days. WWE wouldn't have a problem doing it as they could keep doing what they already do.
Guest JMTapes Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 It's not "spelt", it's "SPELLED." I fucking hate that...I have a friend that does that, and he does it went he speaks.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 I actually think it can be either "spelt" or "spelled." Satanico, 'tis a good idea there. Keep the SmackDown taping roughly 3 hours, but have one SmackDown show on, say, Tuesday at 8 PM, and the second half Thursday at 8PM. Keep Velocity, and DON'T PUT ANY SHOW ON WEDNESDAY.* * = TNA vs. SmackDown. I gladly choose TNA over anything WWE, even SmackDown.
Guest LatinoHeat Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 It's not "spelt", it's "SPELLED." I fucking hate that...I have a friend that does that, and he does it went he speaks. Guest Creepy Crawl Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Great now we will get to see other former Different World cast members try and come up with their owns shows .... maybe they acn bring back Moesha
Guest Angle-plex Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Maybe they could have a Smackdown draft to see who gets to be on what show. Then we can have 3 WWE brands.
Guest El Satanico Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Actually I threw spelt in there, because i knew that it's a correct but seldom used term and knew that someone would bitch about it not being a correct term.
Guest HartFan86 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Guys, please take this to the "Grammar" section of the board. Or just do it in Puro to piss them off. Anyways, back to the topic at hand. SD only an hour? Gay.
Guest EternallyLazy Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Cutting a highly rated show is nothing... Nitro was one of TNT's highest rated shows, even in the end
Guest Mole Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Ahh, is UPN retarted? Cutting their highest rated show? Re-read the article. By the way it's RETARDED NOT RETARTED...sorry but it just drives me insane when it's spelt like that. And how doesn't it help UPN? Smackdown is the highest rated show on UPN. That means the most people who tune into UPN at one given time, is Smackdown. So basically, UPN would advertise THEIR shows during that time slot to get more people to tune into another show. They are cutting it. When you cut something, that means you make is shorter. They are making Smackdown shorter. No, making Smackdown shorter is dumb. You never know when the next wrestling boom is, and they will be hitting themselves if they cut it, and the ratings go up more.
Guest TheGame2705 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 And why would we take grammar to the puro board? AND PLEASE STOP CALLING EVERYTHING THAT IS BAD, GAY. I know it's commonly said but it's still ignorant. Just another reason I wanna pay dimes to get in your pants. Just to piss you off.
Guest TheGame2705 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 I don't watch Smackdown anyway so it wouldn't really matter to me. I'd probably watch it more because it's less time.
Guest JMTapes Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Actually I threw spelt in there, because i knew that it's a correct but seldom used term and knew that someone would bitch about it not being a correct term. My sincerest apologies. www.jmtapes.com
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 On this occasion, spelt is correct (as is my understanding) as "spelt" is a past tense of spell. For example; "It is spelt I-T." is wrong, but "When I was writing, I spelt it, I-T." would be correct.
Guest El Satanico Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Smackdown doesn't help UPN's other shows because it doesn't lead into anything. Lead Ins are a big deal in Television and it's wasted on their highest rated show. Besides just because UPN says they are interested in changing Smackdown into an hour long show doesn't mean it's set in stone. It will be discussed when they negotiate the new contract. If they change the format of Smackdown, splitting the two hours over two days is likely something both sides would agee to and that's what I'd expect to see.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 And why would we take grammar to the puro board? AND PLEASE STOP CALLING EVERYTHING THAT IS BAD, GAY. I know it's commonly said but it's still ignorant. Just another reason I wanna pay dimes to get in your pants. Just to piss you off. Why can't Gay mean homosexual and lame or stupid? Fag used to mean cigarette, gay used to mean happy, fairy used to be a magical sprite, queer used to mean weird. Why can't we take your words now? Learn to compromise.
Guest Steviekick Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 And how doesn't it help UPN? Smackdown is the highest rated show on UPN. That means the most people who tune into UPN at one given time, is Smackdown. So basically, UPN would advertise THEIR shows during that time slot to get more people to tune into another show. Why would you use the advertisements for free stuff for your network? You'd make much more money buy selling it to someone else than keep it for internal promotional space. Sorry.....too much college TV classes coming out.
Guest Ram Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Why the hell does FOX start the news at NINE anyway (here)? Why not wait until 10 like everybody else?
Guest TheGame2705 Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 When gay is written down in the dictionary as stupid, I'll accept it. For now, it's quite ignorant.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 When gay is written down in the dictionary as stupid, I'll accept it. For now, it's quite ignorant. I'm not gay-bashing, or anything, but twice you've called MrZsasz ignorant for using gay to mean stupid. He's made it clear he knows what it means, so how is that ignorance? If I called someone a "Yid" without knowing what it meant, that would be ignorant, otherwise it would be incorrect and insulting. I'm not defending MrZsasz for using the term "gay", but it seems that accusing him of ignorance is wrong.
Guest EternallyLazy Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 When gay is written down in the dictionary as stupid, I'll accept it. For now, it's quite ignorant. Ahhh so now we're arguing over the term "gay" and how it's supposed to be used eh? Allow me to chime in with my thoughts... SHUT THE FUCK UP!
