Guest FeArHaVoC Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 WWE RAW scored a 3.9 rating this week, feuled by the Eric Bischoff 30 day deadline angle and the teased return of Steve Austin. We hope to have more details later. Credit: WrestlingObserver.com
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 A 3.9 when they set up as much as they did means nothing. That show had zero payoff for everyone other then the people in the arena
Guest Austin3164life Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Last time I checked, 3.9 is not that good of a rating anyway, considering Raw used to average 5s a couple of years ago. Teasing the fans with an Austin return is rediculous if only 15,000 people get payoff, and the rest of that 3.8something mil get squat. Either have him return or save it for No Way Out.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 AustinHHH4Life seems to assume that Austin is going to save the ratings anyway. Even if they did this flawlessy, he doesn't have a bazillion fans who aren't watching now and are just waiting for him to come back.
Guest TheSoleSurvivor Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Well, it's an improvement over the 3.4's and 3.3's they were doing for MONTHS in 2002, but, as stated above, nowhere near the glory days. But they obviously are doing SOMETHING right with the Austin thing, and probably sucked in alot of causal fans to at least show intrest in the PPV.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 That's it. These damn ratings fluctuate so much I don't know what anyone wants.
Guest BiOHaZaRD EX Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Surprising that it got that 3.9, since the second half of RAW was boring, with the exception of me wanting to see if Vince would get rid of Eric, and maybe Austin returning.
Guest Austin3164life Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 AustinHHH4Life seems to assume that Austin is going to save the ratings anyway. Even if they did this flawlessy, he doesn't have a bazillion fans who aren't watching now and are just waiting for him to come back. I don't think Austin's comeback will miraculously turn the ratings into 5.5s, but what I meant is that they're not giving the fans a good payoff, and Vince continues to insult our intelligence with melodramatic angles. If they use Austin right and put him in programs with good talent (Angle, Jericho, Benoit, Booker T) perhaps the ratings might go into the 4s, and stay there if they don't create rediculous re-hashed angles.
Guest Brian Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 They told you Austin was coming at No Way Out. Why do you expect more?
Guest razazteca Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 you know what this means......Cruiserweights will save the company Jericho vs Hardy = what people want /sarcasm
Guest CanadianChick Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Hmm...I can't figure out these ratings. Oh well, I guess the thought of Bishoff getting fired made people tune in. I don't think that we can credit Austin entirely for this rating though. It has been clearly stated many times that if Austin does return, it will be at NO Way Out.
Guest Austin3164life Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 They told you Austin was coming at No Way Out. Why do you expect more? They're constantly teasing an Austin return with the "search for Austin" and all of the Austin mentions. TV audiences wont be too pleasant learning about Austin appearing after the broadcast. Sure, the fans will tune in to see him at No Way Out and the Raw after, but I'm just questioning their buildup, that's all.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 90% of the marks won't ever find out he was there and this is a good sell for the ppv. Its a throwaway ppv before the biggest event of the year and they just upped their buyrates by having him there, even though its a silly match against Bisch. Smart move I say.
Guest Brian Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 But did anyone actually bank on Austin returning? How gullible do you have to be? They're building up to his return, teasing and teasing it, but everyone knows when it's coming. It's the WWE. It's basic, fundamental booking. If you say someone's going to be there at a certain point, you don't cheat them out of that by giving it away earlier, especially for free.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Why was Eric even given his job back? JR got Austin back. My problem is these Austin teasers are just bad annoying tv. The shit with Eric going through Texas and talking to bad actors didn't do anything for the product.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Maybe everyone wanted to see Vince live his long wanted fantasy of having Eric Bischoff kiss his hass.
Guest deadbeater Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 The uptick to 3.9 was for Molly/Jazz. I just know it.
Guest RugbyDiva Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 I wish they'd just sick with Eric being fired or something. I hate when they do crap like fire him and then an hour later re-hire him. Make it interesting for once..
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 I just realized this is going to be the first PPV where both Austin and Rock have a match in a LOOOOONG time. Buyrate will be interesting on this one.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 Maybe the show's rating was up because it was a little lighhht.
Guest bob_barron Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 First PPV since X-8. That's 11 months
Guest TheArchiteck Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 The uptick to 3.9 was for Molly/Jazz. I just know it. Hell, It should be........ it was easily the best match of the night. Jazz is just incredible....
Guest Lightning Flik Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 If the woman preformed matches like Molly/Tazz every RAW, I probably would be a little more interested in the Woman's Divison. ...now that's a scary thought. Not the fact that I wouldn't mind the Division, but at least it would have more credibility than the World Divison.
Guest Suicide King Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 Maybe the show's rating was up because it was a little lighhht. I was wondering how long til someone threw that up in the air. Sigh.
Guest wwF1587 Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 when the wwe gets back to the mid to low 5s.. it will mean something... 3s and 4s .. while they are not really good... they're ok... im no major in ratings and personally dont care alot about them unles they are really high or really low... when RAW hits 2.0 ratings.. i will worry
Guest razazteca Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 The big question is did it beat the dog show on the USA Network? The real test is if Raw can maintain its rating and have it continue to rise. But sooner of later the hook n bait tactics will get tiresome and the rating will go back to the 3.3 norm.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 "I was wondering how long til someone threw that up in the air." It's true that there wasn't much HHH though. He had what? 2 segments? Better than his usual 4-6 billion.
Guest Redhawk Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 There are several factors for why the ratings went up, especially since they didn't go up all that much. There's no more football, so that helps. The NBA was off, so that helped yesterday. And I don't know what primetime shows were on, but if the majority of them were re-runs than that would help WWE's ratings too. But even if it's the Austin thing, all that's going to happen is Vince will say, "See, when I go on TV and show my ass the ratings go up. More Kiss My Ass Club skits!" This will undoubtedly lead to more Vince, and probably more of Vince's ass.
Guest Mole Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 The uptick to 3.9 was for Molly/Jazz. I just know it. HAHAHAHAHA... Oh, were you being serious?
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 RAW scored a 3.9 this week off hours of 3.5 and 4.3. The 4.3 for hour two is one of RAW's strongest ratings in awhile, and is a positive sign as the show gained viewers until the end.
