Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 In what has to be extremely disturbing news for WWE, the Raw rating dropped to a 4.0 this week after jumping up to a 4.5 last week. There is no way to look at the drop as anything other than a huge negative for the company. We should have a full ratings report later today 1wrestling
Guest Eagan469 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 If I was a casual fan I would have turned it off after the 10-minute commercial goof
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Experts point to the African-American demographic, where ratings have dropped from a 1.8 the night after Backlash to a .03 on Monday.
Guest EternallyLazy Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 That's probably what hurt it in the long run
Guest Repo Man jr Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 It's Booker T's fault It's not fair to blame it on Booker, it's clearly Hurricane's fault too!
Guest SP-1 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I think 1wrestling is overdramatizing it a bit. It's a friggin' .5 drop on a show riddled with production screw ups and a racism angle. But Hurricane and Booker will probably get the blame.
Guest mach7 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 1popup is acting like 4.0 is a horrible rating to receive.. because it isn't. this isn't the Monday Night Wars anymore.. WWE isn't going to get 5's and 6's... the business is in a frigging decline. Christ, I remember when Monday nights were lucky to draw 2's, let alone 4's...
Guest The Man in Blak Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Uh, wasn't Raw pulling in high 3's about a month ago?
Guest Choken One Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Yeah but Vince still remembers drawing 6's, 7's and on a couple occasions 8's....
Guest HartFan86 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 If I was a casual fan I would have turned it off after the 10-minute commercial goof That's what I said in the Raw thread. Blame TNN on this one.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Well, it's not like the first hour of Raw was all that stellar anyway. I don't think that many people were intrigued by the Austin/Bischoff situation, or with Booker T's "heartfelt" promo, or with Jeff Hardy and Rico fighting, for example. I mean, just take a look at it - Raw was pretty damn shitty in any segment not involving the Rock, and even the Rock's segments were a little bit off this week due to writers running out of ammo (Rock/Hurricane) and Austin still trying to get the kinks out.
Guest SP-1 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 In a way, I miss the Raw 2000-2001 formula. Sure, the twnety minute promo got old after a while but it was generally entertaining when the right mic guys were out there, and it got me interested in what was going on. It set the tone and back then the tone was exciting enough. Sorry, ranted somewhat. My point is that they seem to have forgotten how to really kick off a show to get people interested.
Guest Johnson1620 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I think it might have alot to do with a shitty main event. Not to mention the other shitty matches they had.
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 20 minute promos are one of the reasons I lose interest in the shows. Like Austin said last night BOOOOOOOOORRRIING!!!
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Yeah, and the crowd was so bored they even no-sold the "Boring" chant.
Guest teke184 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Well, they still gave a DEAFENING ovation when Trips beat on Maven and Snow... I say this because it must have been SO LOUD that it made me deaf because I sure couldn't hear a damn thing. When you beat up a guy like Snow, who people love from TE, in his home state and STILL don't get a reaction, it's time to pack it in.
Guest swan Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 In what has to be extremely disturbing news for WWE, the Raw rating dropped to a 4.0 this week after jumping up to a 4.5 last week. It's championship week, of course it dropped. I was switching channels between Fox Sports, ESPN, and Raw.
Guest Downhome Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Good, I hope it keeps dropping untill they realize that two guys will not heal two years of shit. It's time to work on the ENTIRE product, get their minds off of non-wrestling stuff (GGG bullshit), and really get serious about WWE. I'm not suprised, I predicted this. RAW still sucks, regardless of Rocky and Austin, period.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 They should feel lucky they got a rating that high. By next week it will be back down in the 3.5 area where it belongs.
Guest Redhawk Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Also, "Married By America" was on, and the big climatic moment happened right when TNN had their commercial goof. Which makes me think the producers were watching MBA too.
Guest Goodear Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I wish these "ratings are everything" fucks would just shut the hell up. Looking at these things on a day-by-day basis are so freaking worthless its unbelievable.
Guest Army Eye Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 1popup is acting like 4.0 is a horrible rating to receive.. because it isn't. this isn't the Monday Night Wars anymore.. WWE isn't going to get 5's and 6's... the business is in a frigging decline. The huge negative is that bringing Austin back, and bringing Rock to Raw, had almost no effect on the rating. It popped one 4.5 and that's it. Not that we couldn't have told them that would happen. It's the same thing with HHH's big comeback, and Rock's comeback last year. One huge rating popped and then back to normal. (and the rating last week wasn't even that big) The product needs to improve as a whole if they want to see ratings go up.

Looking at these things on a day-by-day basis are so freaking worthless its unbelievable. You need to E-mail Vince that. Ever since the "Attitude Era" and Russo and his bullshit, that's all Vince and Kevin Dunn has cared about. Just like everything in Corporate America these days, it's all about Money.
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 [You need to E-mail Vince that. Ever since the "Attitude Era" and Russo and his bullshit, that's all Vince and Kevin Dunn has cared about.] I agree 100%

It popped one 4.5 and that's it. That's just a problem of the writing. A few people tuned in to see the returns, then see the reasons why the left in the first place. It's been said a million times, returning stars won't do shit if the product does nothing to hold on the the viewers they attract.

Yet Vince doesn't seem to even think that the writing or booking are problems... he thinks there aren't enough SWERVES~!, Shock TV angles, or washed-up old wrestlers to bring back.
Guest Lightning Flik Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Thing is though, that most of the swerving doesn't have any swerve to it, because it's basically the only option to go. I mean, seriously. Who doesn't think there's some kind of swerve that'll happen in the Austin vs Bischoff 2? One that's just so obvious.
Guest NoCalMike Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Well the show sucked(IMO) so what did we all expect. If WWE is putting on great shows and the ratings are still sucking, then they should worry. Step 1 is producing better shows, when that happens, the ratings should follow in the upwards swing. Oh and not to mention that it now seems that Rock/Austin simply BEING THERE, is not going to bring everyone back, they have to be doing something eventful, and ROck wrestling the Hurricane is not, and Austin stinking up the ring is NOT either.

It popped one 4.5 and that's it. Er, what? 4.5 is amazing compared to what they were doing pre-Royal Rumble. They had a 2.9 one week, remember? And they'd been drawing low-3's for like 6 months straight. The ratings started popping right after the Rumble, after Bisch said Austin was returning. This is probably due to 1) no more MNF, 2) the road to Wrestlemania always gets higher ratings, and 3) Austin's return. The exact impact of each is debatable. The Rock might have had something to do with it too, though he didn't do anything for ratings last year. Anyway, a 4.0 is fairly good compared to what they were doing before. The ratings increase post-MNF is never quite this high, though I see it going back to the low 3's in a month or two.
