Guest Redhawk Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Who will be the next top heel on Smackdown after Kurt Angle leaves? Something tells me Stephanie McMahon. I know they're kinda/sorta booking her as a babyface (I think, I can't even tell), but you know Vince. When you need a monster heel, call a non-wrestler. Unless you want to argue that Angle wasn't even the top heel anyway, and Paul Heyman held that spot. Also, what will become of Team Angle? Finally, would you wrestle at 'Mania if you were Kurt Angle?
Guest j.o.b. squad Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 big show will be top heel team angle will either become team albert or team benoit
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Top heels: * Big Show * A-Train (yeah, get used to it) * Possibly Nathan Jones, depending on what they do with him after WM Upper mid heels: * John Cena * Matt Hardy Midcard heels: * F.B.I * One member of Team Angle (let's face it, they're going to lose push.) Other one goes to Raw, I predict. * Jamie Noble Velocity Fodder: * Bill DeMott * Shannon Moore I dunno. I think that's a pretty good heel roster for something the size of SmackDown.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Matt Hardy and John Cena should be the ones that get the big push. But it'll probably go to Albert and Show
Guest notJames Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 If Hogan doesn't retire at Mania, Vince McMahon will be SD's #1 heel. Hell, it worked 5 years ago. And relying on relics from the past always brings the money train rolling in, right? Seriously, if by #1 heel, you mean feuding with the Champ, it'll be Nathan Jones once he turns on and disposes of 'Taker.
Guest teke184 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 I don't think even VINCE is dumb enough to put Nathan Jones in the ME so quick... The guy is a walking PR nightmare and, on top of that, he's horrible for a guy who's been wrestling several years. 90% of the kids on Tough Enough are better than him. Granted, that's never stopped Vince in the past if he's dead-set on something, but it did curtail Outback Jack's push. "Where did Outback Jack go, anyway?" "He went out back..." "After Davey Boy and Dynamite got done with him, there's no telling WHERE the f*ck he is." - Jim Cornette and the Heavenly Bodies on Outback Jack
Guest humongous2002 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Damn after reading all this ideas on who the #1 heel should be then all i got to say is that SD is fucked. The scary thing is HHH being traded to SD to squash Brocky.
Guest nikowwf Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Id trade RVD to Smackdown for one of the hosses. Make him the #1 heel. So he's a cool heel, who cares. Team RVD....f*ck the three I's and have a smoke...
Guest notJames Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 I don't think even VINCE is dumb enough… I'm gonna stop you right there and let you ponder that for a second.
Guest teke184 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 I don't think even VINCE is dumb enough… I'm gonna stop you right there and let you ponder that for a second. Steph is dumb enough... Kevin Dunn is dumb enough... Vince? Maybe, maybe not. You'd think that with all the injuries they have now and the potential lack of star power with Rock and Angle leaving soon and Taker, Austin, and Trips all ailing that he wouldn't put an untested draw, who's sloppy and likely to get deported, on top.
Guest Redhawk Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 If the top heel is a wrestler -- which I doubt, since this situation just begs for a Steph/Vince/Shane or Heyman takeover -- I think they'll go with A-Train and Big Show (and, by extension, Heyman). Problem with that is, I look at those two and think, "What are they doing that Bull Buchanan, Godfather, or freakin' (shudder) Big Bossman can't do?"
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 I don't think even VINCE is dumb enough to put Nathan Jones in the ME so quick... Come on now...Vince has done things far dumber then this. Although I don't think this'll happen. And I hope Vince knows that Show or Albert STILL aren't over enough to be top heels. Maybe Taker will turn heel, I mean with Brock getting the belt they have to throw a guy at him who at least stands a chance.
Guest Pigsy Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 "Also, what will become of Team Angle?" Just because Kurt won't be wrestling doesn't mean he can't still be a manager or some other on-air character, he is great on the mic afterall. Maybe he'll do that for a bit to help Team Angle establish themselves. As for the top heel, maybe they'll turn Brock - the unbeatable monster character works better for a heel, IMO.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 I could see Team Angle dropping the belts at Mania then taking a little while off, maybe a name change, maybe singles. I also think Paul E might tune down his role on tv.

I think Kurt would probably want to go home and start recovering from neck surgery, not keep up a WWE travel schedule just to play Smackdown's version of Ric Flair.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Just a question -- How well is Eric Angle doing in OVW? Is he showing any skill at all? Provided he's fully healed from his previous injury (I think a muscle tear), I was thinking he could very well be the replacement in Team Angle. It's no Kurt though. Other than that, I could see Benjamin and Haas staying as a duo, with or without the on-going Angle association. Please give them some sort of personality though. Top heel... I pray it's not Show. Or A-Train. Jones will probably feud with Undertaker later on though. Ugh. Rhyno, provided he turns, isn't there yet. Kanyon could fill a spot in the upper midcard, provided they stop playing him up as a complete comedy character. Cena could be a top heel later on. I could see them turning Benoit. OF the current wrestlers on SD, he's probably the best choice to become the top heel. Either him or maybe trade Jericho back to SmackDown after WM? Of course all these injuries certainly lends credibility to the theory that Vince should've been pushing new guys years ago. He's been completely unprepared for the current situation, with the exception of Lesnar.
Guest teke184 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Eric Angle is older than Kurt (late 30s I'd guess) and has been continuously injured for two years. He is in NO way ready to step into a top spot to fill the void left by his brother.
Guest Pigsy Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Fair point, although I was thinking he could be an occasional on-air character once he's had his surgery, since he's entertaining on the mic. For some reason, I have this image of Kurt doing a Bob Backlund, and coming back to win the World title in 10 years time.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 I've seen a little of Eric Angle and he doesn't have what it takes to be in the WWE at all...that's just a favor for Kurt I'm sure. Kanyon will never be upper midcard, I like the guy...but it'll never happen. Smackdown needs a bigger name...Raw has Austin, Steiner, Rock, HHH, Michaels, and Jericho. The only main eventers Smackdown has left are Taker, Brock, and maybe Benoit.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Yeah, I'm aware Eric is a few years older than Kurt, but really had no idea the extent of his injuries (or his talent level, as YnA said). And I didn't mean Eric in regards to the "top heel" talk, because I wasn't seriously considering him for that, but rather in response to the "Team Angle" talk.
Guest teke184 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Even if it's just to show up on SD as a wrestler, it's still a bad idea. He's as injury-prone and/or unlucky as Kevin Nash.
Guest Choken One Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 It would be Comical if Eric simply step in the dressing room all Kurt-like and Haas and Benjamin simply react as if HE WAS Kurt and they run with that Gag for a few weeks...I dunno how good Eric would be at Pulling that gimmick off...He doesn't have to wrestle at all...Just let him "Motivate" Haas and Benjamin...It would be a funny Mid-card angle... However...#1 Heel? Long-Term? Heyman's Family...However, I would like to see Heyman's family change up...Throw in Matt, Rhyno and Kanyon and have Heyman Fire Haas/Benjamin (using the scenario above). TBS returns to the Comedy Goofball gimmick again...A-Train is released...but stays on as J.R's personal Assissant.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Eric really isn't a good talker...so the locker room leader thing wouldn't be great.
Guest Choken One Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Is he THAT bad he can't even Imitate his own brother?
Guest Redhawk Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Is he THAT bad he can't even Imitate his own brother? Don't discount it. Torrie is so bad she can't convince people that her boyfriend and her dad are really her boyfriend and her dad.
Guest AndrewTS Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 As for the top heel, maybe they'll turn Brock - the unbeatable monster character works better for a heel, IMO. Name a recent example? Goldberg bombed as a heel and Lesnar bombed as a heel. Both were given God-pushes. Batista was also never over his entire WWE tenure.

Guest Space_Cowboy Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 I have a bad feeling Smackdown's #1 heel will go by the name Triple H.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 As far as Nathan Jones as top heel... Let him cut cool promos. Let him do beatdowns. Give him a devestating finisher that is simple to do, and have him KO people with it in non-match situations. Explore the "prisoner" aspect of his character. It's what seperates him from the pack. Basically, don't expose his weaknesses. If he gets over, give him a shot. If he's just TOO bad in the ring, (And unless he injures everyone, he won't be.) you've lost nothing because you didn't actually put him OVER anyone, you just made him look strong.
